Answer:	I don't have it in front of me but I'd say around an inch. That is what I use mine for though, cleaning the grates on my weber. I get the grill hot, brush it real well, then use some tongs and a wet rag to go over it one more time. Works great.

Answer:	How is your iron count in your blood? Use the grill. If you can sock the grate over night with vinegar or Pepsi. Then brush with a brush. It is best to leave rendered fat on your grill until the nest usage. Heat the grate way up (450 or more) the the fat will burn off. The fat will stop rust. The heat will clean your grate. Brush with wire brush and the grate will be ready to wipe with fat and start cooking.
