He may have unplugged it from the wall but left the power cord plugged into the back of the radio. He needs to unplug the power cord from the back of the radio, as well as unplug the cord from the electric outlet, to get it to work on batteries. If he has already unplugged the cord from the back of the radio and it still won't play on batteries, here is what's probably happening. Inside the jack for the power cord on the back of the radio there is a little flap that moves back and forth when you put the power cord in and pull it out. When you push the power cord in, you're also pushing this little flap upward, which switches it from battery power to AC electric power. This flap might not be popping back down when the power cord is removed. I would suggest unplugging the cord from the electrical outlet, then plug and unplug the power cord from the back of the unit several times to see if you can free up this flap. (When it's popped out, you can see it inside the jack.) If this doesn't work, the unit may be defective and need to be exchanged. |

Aside from the whole "getting hit by a piece of rubber and foam traveling 50-70 fps" (which doesn't necessarily need to happen), the slide is probably too strong for a very small child to pull back. Your 2 1/2 year old will almost definitely not be able to pull it back, and your 5 year old may or may not be strong enough to pull it back. |
