It does change from green, yellow, and red. The annoying part is it takes awhile for the lights to change. I wish you could change it yourself using the wand or something. Answer:	No. It is silent. It has worked really well for our boys. They're 4 and 3, but we've been using it for around 2 years now. We do cover the red light with a shirt or something so it's a bit dimmer during the night.
