Answer:

As I do not remember how many land cards come with this it may be wiser to start off with a deck building kit from Walmart or any store that sells them. Also if there is a gaming store in your area that is licensed for Magic (wizards of the coast) then you should be able to get two decks for free. I think they are called starter decks but I could be wrong about that. The person at the counter should know. These decks will have land cards in them and are great for introducing someone to the game.

Answer:	Yes, but it would be just one of a small handful of items that I would recommend after playing Magic for several years. I personally would recommend this plus a Bundle Pack, so you could add ten (10) more packs to start your collection, and build your first deck with a bit more variety and better cards. I would also recommend a preconstructed Starter Set of some sort to give you two basic ready to play decks with minimal mechanics for you to literally learn the game on with a friend. All three items that I just mentioned should set you back no more than about $75 here in the US. You would get a ton of value this way, and it would absolutely ensure the minimum variety to get some real pleasure out of getting started in playing MTG. I got quickly hooked on playing the game, and most who try it do as well! hope this helps!

Question:	Would this set be enough for me and a friend to play against each other as first time players, or is there a wiser way to start an initial collection
Answer:	When I purchased this pack I received cards going back as far as 1995 all the way to Shadows Over Innistrad and Eldritch Moon. Basically anything from any sets older than Kaladesh can be found in this. This pack makes a great backbone to a variety of decks but you will likely need some specific cards to bolster them.
Question:	How recent are these cards
Answer:	In my lot I had a decent mix of newer with older expansion cards. I couldn't tell you off the top of my head which sets they came from though.

Answer:	The card are in mint or near mint condition. There are Rares and foils in the group. I bought it before M15 and a large % was from the at the time current release, but I cannot say if this will include M15 now that it has been released. There was a good mix and I bought it for someone that was just starting out and they were able to make several decent decks out of the box.
