User questions & answers

Question: Does this come in original packaging or a plain, brown box
Answer: yes it is, the inside bottom folds from front up, and the side s 'accordian' on each side. then I use a light weight bungee cord to hold it closed. I've use mine several yrs. and I still love it. at first it would swing back when loaded so we fastened the back bottom as well as the top and it's been great ever since.
Question: Are pieces metal or plastic
Answer: I suppose you might be able to rig something on the handle bars. I rigged mine on my back bike rack with simple long Velcro straps in 3 places and I load a lot in there all the time.
Question: How do I get replacement servo motors (green ones) for meccanoid xl 2.0? Neck servos were delivered defective
Answer: The baskets unfolded are a little short of 13", got them today and feel a bit disappointed. But they will work well for commuting and gathering groceries.
Question: Does it sleep
Answer: Listing was for one basket. Not familiar with Wald 582 baskets but this one seems sturdy enough.
Question: Does this kit require coding
Answer: The bike has (7)seven speeds, (Seven Sprockets at the rear wheel), and (1)one Sprocket at the Pedals). This gearing is meant to be average range of speeds. So don't expect this Hi gear to compete with a Mountain Bike, or Street Bike. I get up to about 30mph in hi gear. But I'm 61y/o and 330lbs.
Question: Stepper motors or encoder feedback dc motors
Answer: The steering angle is fixed just like any bike. As for the gearing, I don't know the numbers, but it is an excellent range for this bike.
Question: Is Alkaline D type 1.5V battery required
Answer: Hello and thank you for your question. Yes! A folded ZiZZO will fit easily under a desk or table. Folded, the ZiZZO is about 27" high. If you have any other questions, please let us know. Your ZiZZO Team

Product description

Robotics is a vast, thrilling, and sometimes overwhelming interdisciplinary field involving physics, engineering, and computer science. This kit gives kids a simple, fun, and customizable introduction to robotics that lets them build eight motorized machines controlled by programs and an ultrasound sensor. Kids code the programs using an easy, visual programming app on a tablet or smartphone, which connects to the robot models via a wireless Bluetooth connection. The ultrasonic sensor works on the same principle as sonar. It sends out sound waves, which bounce off objects. The sensor interprets the echoes returning to it, and from this detects objects in the path of the sensor. Using the app interface, you can program the robots you build to behave based on the feedback coming from the ultrasound sensor. Build a humanoid robot that walks forward on two legs and pivots to avoid obstacles in its path. An awesome stag Beetle model moves backwards or forwards in response to an obstacle, and opens and closes its pincers. Construct a funny Crocodile model that wags its tail If no object is in sight, but then opens its giant jaws when an object approaches. Using an additional smartphone and tablet, You can even hack together a cute little spy-bot that roams around and streams video back to the tablet screen. A full-color, 64-page step-by-step illustrated manual helps kids assemble All of the models and teaches them about robotics in the real world. The visual programming language allows you to command the robots' Motors to move at different times, different power levels, in different directions, and in response to the data from the sensor. Robotics: Smart Machines

The Ultrasonic Sensor

The ultrasonic sensor sends out ultrasound waves and 'listens' for them to bounce off of objects. One 'eye' on the sensor is a transmitter and the other is a receiver. The transmitter sends out ultrasonic waves, like a speaker, and the receiver senses the waves that bounce back, like a microphone. The information collected by the sensor is passed on to the app which controls the models and makes them move. Depending on the data coming from the ultrasound sensor, your robot can move to avoid obstacles in its path, wiggle its tail, open its mouth, and more!

The Models

The kit contains building pieces and instructions to build 8 different models: a Bipedal Droid, Spy Bot, Beetle, Crocodile, Tiltrotor Aircraft, Robo Dog, Robotosaurus, and Catapult. After constructing a model, kids can use the free downloadable app to program their creation to walk and move using a smartphone or tablet.

The Manual

The 64-page illustrated manual offers more than just instructions for assembling the 8 models in the kit. Children learn about the science behind ultrasound, how certain animals use echolocation to hunt and find their way in the dark, how sonar and radar were developed to help pilots navigate the skies, and much more. The manual also provides easy-to-follow instructions and guidelines for writing programs through the free app, enabling your smartphone or tablet to act as a remote-control to make the models move.

The App

The app for Robotics: Smart Machines is the 'brain' of your robotic models. It uses feedback from the ultrasonic sensor and program instructions to control the models. The app is free to download from the App Store for iOS devices, or from Google Play for Android devices. Check the app stores for compatibility and device requirements.

The Programs

Kids get an introduction to programming with this kit. They can write their own programs in the app, or use one of the 7 pre-loaded demo programs to get the models moving. Included are instructions on how to create programs to move the motors in the models, as well as to create sound so that when their robot walks, a simple melody plays through their smartphone or tablet.

    User questions & answers

Question: Does this come with any warranty from manufacturer if there are any defective pieces
Answer: PC is not a must. You can control and code it from a mobile device. But if you want to code it with C language, a Windows PC or Mac is needed. Because on the mobile APP, it only supports drag and drop coding. As for Kindle and Chromebook, sorry we are not supporting yet. Here is the website for APP and softwares: http://robobloq.com/support/download Feel free to ask if you need anything else. Thanks
Question: is there a carrying case for this kit
Answer: Yes, the Robobloq app has an Android version, so Amazon Fire works as well. If you can't access Google Play, you can download from this link: http://www.robobloq.com/support/download
Question: I have seen a lot of negative reviews, but they are rather old. Have the bugs been worked out
Answer: You can also download a PDF of the build instructions from Robobloq.com - you may prefer that if you want to see them nice and large on your computer screen.
Question: How to slide open the core controller's cover to install the batteries? The manual says to slide it open, but it doesn't seem to open that way
Answer: If the white clips at the front and back that hold the yellow wheel in place aren't snapped all the closed, the gears won't connect properly. Takes a fair amount of pressure to snap them closed completely.

My Robotic Pet - Tumbling Hedgehog

With the 172 building pieces in this kit, you can assemble a real robot that looks like a cute hedgehog. This unique pet has a built-in sound sensor and is programmed to react to your claps. Clap once, and your hedgehog curls up into a ball and rolls over one time. Clap multiple times, and it will roll again and again, tumbling once for each clap! Watch how different patterns of claps instruct your hedgehog to do different tricks--make it bristle its spines, scurry around, spin, and more!

    Your Robotic Hedgehog

Before you can start playing and experimenting with your unique little pet, you have to build it! The kit comes with 172 building pieces to assemble your robotic hedgehog and includes a sound sensor which is located on the circuit board in your pet's head. It's this sensor that enables your hedgehog to move according to your clap commands. Like a real hedgehog, your robotic pet can run and curl up into a ball. Fortunately, though, the sound sensor enables it to listen to and follow your orders rather than immediately curling up when it feels threatened (like a real hedgehog would do). By building your hedgehog from start to finish and getting a good look at all of its components, you will gain experience in the inner mechanical workings that enable the robot to move the way it does. In addition to a crash course in sound sensors, you'll also learn about gears, motors, and LEDs (your hedgehog's eyes light up!).

    The Manual

The full-color, 40-page illustrated manual provides highly detailed step-by-step instructions for building your robotic hedgehog as well as troubleshooting tips and explanations to get your pet working and moving smoothly. But the manual isn't just a set of assembly steps--it also includes some interesting scientific information and fun facts about hedgehogs and bionic robots.

    Nuna, the Tumbling Hedgehog!

That's right! Your hedgehog has its very own comic! Embark on an exciting archaeological exploration with a bonus illustrated story that follows Tom and Izzy, two inquisitive young scientists, as they build Nuna the Tumbling Hedgehog while on an excursion to the Temple of the Gaaa!

Mode 1: Roll backward and sleep

Your hedgehog is in Mode 1 when its eyes are glowing orange and green. In this mode, your hedgehog can accept the following commands:

    • Clap once: Your hedgehog will roll backward
    • Clap twice: Your hedgehog will roll backward and then stay curled up and fall asleep
    • Clap three times: Your hedgehog will wake up and unroll itself, ready to play!

    Mode 2: Multiple backward rolls

Your hedgehog is in Mode 2 when its eyes are glowing green. In this mode, your hedgehog will roll up to five times in a row, depending on how many times you clap. Clap once, it'll tumble once; clap twice, it'll tumble twice; all the way up to five times!

Mode 3: Applauding for a backward roll

Your hedgehog is in Mode 3 when its eyes are glowing orange. In this mode, your hedgehog wants encouragement to put on a show! Keep clapping to cheer your pet on as it completes a roll. Don't stop clapping before the trick is complete! Otherwise it'll just stretch out and start walking, and the show will be over before it begins!
