Without the proper tools to measure straightness I can only go by the lack of any real noticeable wobble when rolling them on my workbench. I hope this helps and if not, I tried. |

| Answer: | This would work for that, however I would advise against the practice of lapping scope rings. You are removing the factory finish which could lead to oxidation or rust. If you have quality scope rings and nothing amiss with your rifle, they will align just fine. You can use this bar to verify that, then if they aren't aligned go from there. You will want to add a handle of some sort for lapping, or an extension to fit into a drill. Go easy with the drill if you use that method, check your rings often. |

| Answer: | I am using these rods to support 2 - 50 pound weight plates and 2 - 25 pound weight plates for ballast on my tractor. In my opinion they are very strong at the 12 inch length. If you can imagine what the jerking and bumping around attached to the back of a tractor would be like. And I don't see any deflection at all. |

Having not actually done any tests on this specific steel the numbers for ultimate tensile strength and yield strength should be close but may vary very minimally due to this company's level of impurities, surface finish etc. But according to another vendor the ultimate tensile strength (point when material snaps) of 1018 is 63,800 psi, the yield strength (point when material no long elastically deforms) is 53,700 psi. Your model according to my calculations would put 782,675.16 psi of stress on this rod. DO NOT DO IT!!! |

| Answer: | I use a dremel with a reinforced cut-off disk. Best to secure the steel rod in a vice, the use the dremel, I cut about half way through and nudge it on the other side and then it will brake off easily. You can use a grinder or the dremel again to smooth the end. If you don't have a dremel then a hacksaw. Best to get a new blade, and again secure it in the vice. Cut slowly, if you go fast it will work against you and not yield to you cutting it. |
