Tamiya 35157 1/35 U.S. Marine M60A1 Tank Plastic Model Kit

Based on 42 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The design for the venerable M60 tank series dates back to the mid 1950's, and had been a mainstay in the U. S. armed forces since then. In order to survive the increasing demands of battlefield operations, it has undergone numerous upgrades and improvement throughout the past 30 years. First produced in the Warren Army tank plant, Detroit, Michigan, U. S. A. in October 1963, the type M60A1 variant has been acknowledged one of the masterpieces in U. S. armor history. Major improvements found in the A1 version was the M68 105mm main gun, which was mounted in a sleek wedge-shaped monobloc-cast turret. The U. S. Marines, who currently operate he M60A1 tank, have opted not to upgrade it to the A3 version because of plans to employ the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank. However, they did install the state-of-the-art reactive armor array on their M60's for improved survivability against shaped-charge missiles and shells, calling the tank an M60A1 + (plus). The externally mounted reactive armor (ERA) used on the M60A1 + tanks is a bolt-on kit, that is spaced away from the main armor, adding additional dead air space for increased protection. Combined with the RISE (Reliability Improved Selected Equipment) program, including the improved stabilized gun, passive searchlight, a new air cleaner, etc. , the M60A1 + is highly capable of remaining in the front line operation as proved during the latest Persian Gulf Conflict. ??Requires paint and assembly.

  • Highly accurate static display model.
  • Scale: 1: 35
  • Length 259 mm
  • Package Weight: 1.234 pounds

TAMIYA 35350 1/35 US Tank Destroyer M10 Mid Prod Plastic Model Kit

TAMIYA

Based on 107 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This is a model of the famed M10 Tank Destroyer, a subject also covered in the 1/48 scale Military Miniature series. This largely newly-tooled model (only machine gun and clear parts are taken over from existing models) gives it the glorious detail of the larger 1/35 scale. The astonishing success of German armor tactics in 1940 prompted U.S. forces to adopt a doctrine requiring dedicated new tank destroyers to counter them. After going down a few different design routes at the start of the process, they eventually hit upon the highly successful M10 design with well-sloped (if rather thin, to keep the vehicle light and maneuverable) armor plate, and the highly capable 3-inch (76.2mm) gun. Over 4,900 were produced, and took part in Operation Torch (the invasion of N. Africa), as well as fighting in Italy and the advance upon Germany that would bring the exhausting conflict to a close.Requires paint and assembly.

  • 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit. Length: 196mm, width: 88mm.
  • Intensive study and measurement of the M10 in the tank museum at Saumur led to this highly detailed depiction of its form complete with sloped armor, right down to auxiliary armor bosses.
  • The open top on the distinctive turret allows viewing of the 3-inch gun breech and realistic interior.
  • Compare and contrast depictions of surface textures such as the cast mantlet and differential cover versus the welded armor plate of the turret sides and upper hull.
  • Belt-type parts recreate T51 tracks.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this require any glue
Answer: I never use a base coat for weathering. I build, paint and decal the model then, apply dirt where it would collect on a tank, dents, with a heated tool, scrapes with a knife, rusted out of course, and rust where rust might be found to build up after years in the field. after years of using the same thinner on Pactra paints, the residue on the bottom of the bottle made an excellent weathering paint.
Question: is this 148 scale or
Answer: Rubber band type tracks. Very good detail and a good fit! Model on!!
Question: What paints would be used for the base coat and the weathering
Answer: You have to buy the glue separately.
Question: does this come with rubber tracks or the hard plastic
Answer: I have not yet built this model but have seen the real thing that did not have the armor and it looked ok.
