User questions & answers

Question: How big is each car
Answer: The fruit is wooden. The basket is a cardboard box. We’ve had this game for awhile and it has stood the test of time. It’s still a favorite in our family.
Question: The outside of the box is mostly in German. Are there English instructions on how to play the game inside the box
Answer: I only have my very first games - first orchard, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but we gave this game to our daughter at Christmas when she turned 2. We started playing it the following year between 2-3. She’s now 3 and still enjoys playing it. It’s quick, it keeps her attention and it’s easy to pick up the rules and remember them. I highly recommend it - really fun!

Product features

Aim of the game

Who will make clever combinations and thus use as many colors as thrown with the dice in order to get his or her racing car over the finishing line first?

Preparation of the game

Spread the game board and put it in the center of the playing surface. Each player chooses a racing car and puts it facing the circuit on the wide starting grid where arrows are shown on the board. If there are less than 6 players the remaining race cars stay in the box. Get the six colored dice ready. Each die shows the six colors of the circuit.

How to Play

Throw all six dice (you can take the dice in both hands). Now try to move your car according to the colors obtained. You have to compare the colors of the dice with the colors of the squares directly ahead of your car.

Do the colors coincide? Or are there even more, subsequent matching colors?

Think carefully about the order in which you want to use the obtained colors and move your car ahead on the corresponding color squares. After each single move, put aside the corresponding die.

If you are lucky and think fast you might be able to move your car ahead six squares!

If you cannot use certain colors because there are no squares of the corresponding color in front of your car, your turn is over. It‘s the next player‘s turn to throw all six dice.

Watch out: From the starting square you may move on to the blue or the white square. You can only move your car ahead.

In addition, the following racing rules apply:

A change of lane is only possible if the far end of the neighboring square is situated ahead of the square where your car is at the moment. In this case too, you are always obliged to move your car ahead.

Obstacle squares (tires) may never be entered.

While you move your car you may pass over squares with other cars on them. However, if your move ends on a square with a car on it, this car is moved back to the next free square in the same lane. Watch out: it cannot be moved back to an obstacle square!

Whenever it is possible to move you are obliged to do so: you always have to move on as far as possible

End of the Game

When the first racing car reaches one of the two target squares the current round is played to the end. In this round each player memorizes how many dice he/she used for moving.

  • If at the end of the round there is only one racing car in the target area, the corresponding driver wins the race.
  • If at the end of the round there is more than one car in the target area the driver who used less dice in this round wins the race.
Quality Game components include 6 wooden colored die, 6 wooden racing cars and 1 game board.

HABA Valley of the Vikings - Knock Down Barrels & Collect (or Steal) the Most Gold! - 2019 Kinderspiel des Jahres (Children's Game of the Year) Winner - Ages 6+ (Made in Germany)

HABA

Based on 42 reviews Check latest price
  • Ein taktisches Geschicklichkeitsspiel.
  • In the Valley of the Vikings, the annual barrel bowling contest is taking place. Use the ball to knock down the right barrels and smart tactics to line up the Vikings on the dock.
  • Courage, skill and willingness to take risks are needed because players who overextend themselves on the dock and fall in the water go away empty-handed.
  • Players take turns positioning and trying to knock down the colored barrels in the middle of the board. Depending on which colors are knocked down, they are advanced along the dock accordingly (leapfrog style).
  • Each spot on the dock represents a different action, such as collecting coins or stealing coins from other players. When all the coins are gone, the player with the most gold wins! This game ALWAYS plays with 4 players, so if playing with only 2, you could lose to a ghost!
  • 2-4 players ages 6 and up. Plays in about 15 minutes. Contents include: 1 large Viking Valley game board (to be pieced together from 7 parts), 8 Viking flags, 4 Viking tokens, 1 cardboard bat, 4 ships (each to be assembled from 4 cardboard sections), 1 bowling ball, 24 gold coins, 4 wooden barrels, 1 rulebook. Made in Germany

Product features

Game Setup

Take the ball and the bat. In the corner of the village closest to you, place the bowling ball in the hole at the top of the ramp. Use the bat to propel the ball in the direction of the barrels to try and knock them over. You are allowed to keep trying until you have knocked over at least one of the four barrels.

When a token needs to move and there are no empty spaces to the right on the dock.....

They fall into the water! The current player's turn ends. Now the Vikings whose tokens are still on the dock are rewarded with coins. If there are fewer than 4 players, the Viking tokens not claimed at the start of the game still get moved just like the others, and their ships still gain coins as well.

Vikings on a space with a Viking flag with gold coins

Take the number of coins depicted (1 - 4 coins) from the hoard. If there are not enough coins left, the player just takes what is there. If there are none at all, they go empty-handed.

Vikings on a space with a Viking flag showing their own Viking image

are allowed to steal one gold coin from each of the other players. If any of the other players do not have coins in their ship, the Viking cannot steal from them.

Vikings on a space with a Viking flag showing the Viking image of another player

are allowed to steal a coin from this Viking. If this player has no coins in their ship, the Viking unfortunately misses out.

Winner of Germany's Prestigious Kinderspiel de Jahres 2019 (Children's Game of the Year)

After a player moves one or more Viking tokens or after coins have been distributed, it is the next player's turn. First they place all the overturned barrels in any spaces they like. Any barrels that were not knocked over stay where they are. If a Viking token has fallen into the water, it is returned to in front of the first space on the dock. All the other Viking tokens stay where they are on the dock.

End of the Game

When the hoard is empty, the game ends. The players are still allowed to steal from each other according to the rules of the game to finish the current turn. But after that, the game really is over. The players then count up the coins in their ships. The player with the most coins wins the game and has earned the title of Valley Viking Chief. If the ship containing the most coins belongs to a Viking who was not paired up at the start with a player (fewer than 4 players), all of the players have lost. If there is a tie, the winner is the player whose Viking token is closest to the start of the dock

HABA Rhino Hero Super Battle - A Turbulent 3D Stacking Game Fun for All Ages (Made in Germany)

  • Rhino Hero is back on the job! And this time, not only does the wobbly skyscraper need to be climbed, but there will be fierce battles between four superheroes: Rhino Hero himself and three new additions: Giraffe Boy, Big E. and Batguin. Who will win the battles and successfully fend off the mean spider monkeys?
  • Build a spectacular 3D cardboard skyscraper. Two different height walls create wobbly excitement. Players can even start from multiple foundations and join the towers together with bridges.
  • Rhino Hero is joined by three other action heroes and hanging spider monkeys. Includes 2 dice for hero battles when they land on the same floor.
  • Sure to be a favorite for all ages, this game plays differently every time. Includes more challenging variations for advanced gamers. For 2-4 players ages 5-99. Plays in 10-20 minutes
  • The game is more varied if you combine it with the original game "Rhino Hero"(item #: 4789). The walls from this game can be used as short walls. And if you use the additional Rhino Hero figure you can play with 5 players!

User questions & answers

Question: What are the dimensions of the cards
Answer: The floor tile cards are about 1" x 5" rectangles, there are also three base cards which are about 4" x 4" squares.
Question: Do you play with just one set or can you combine sets
Answer: Yes, you can combine more than one set. This will allow a bigger/taller structure . This is true of both Super Battle and the regular Rhino Hero. You can even add the regular Rhino Hero cards to Super Battle. You will need to change the rules a bit though......... About when to draw them, and where to place them. But we have definitely heard of people doing that!
Question: What is the difference between this version and original
Answer: There are quite a few differences! The original version has only one size of wall card and makes only one tower. The super battle (SB) version has 2 wall heights allowing for multiple connecting towers and more strategy/options in how you place your longer floorcards. It also introduces 3 new characters in addition to Rhino hero. In the original version there was only one rhino hero and the floor cards determined when he moved (always up). In the SB version, each player has a character to move and the roll of the dice determines whether he goes up or down. The player with the highest super hero also gets to hang onto the Super hero "medal" and whoever has it at the end of the game wins! Finally, the SB version introduces spider monkeys, for an extra dexterity challenge. Certain floor cards require that you hang a spider monkey on the tower during your turn.
Question: What are the pieces made out of
Answer: Walls and floors - card stock Monkeys - Cardboard Characters - Wood

A Turbulent 3D Stacking Game Fun for All Ages!!

Rhino Hero is back on the job! And this time his superhero friends Giraffe Boy, Big E. and Batguin join him. Together the superheroes build a dizzyingly tall skyscraper. Will they manage to climb up the many levels of the skyscraper? Only if if was built carefully, and the heroes have a steady hand. Don't get ahead of yourself; battles can quickly send you back down to the bottom. Secure the superhero medal and stop the mean, hanging spider monkeys from disturbing you – it's the only way to be the winning superhero!

Tips:

The game can be made more difficult by having the game board show less than 10 build points. At the start of the game arrange the three base pieces however you want. If only the red starting points are shown then there are only 5 points and you have chosen the most difficult starting setup.

... and/or by only allowing only one hand to be used for building. And it's even more difficult if players are only allowed to use their less dominant hand!

The game is more varied if you combine it with the original game "Rhino Hero"(item no. 004789). The walls from this game can be used as short walls. And if you use the additional Rhino Hero figure you can play with 5 players!

User questions & answers

Question: Do you have to match a piece to create a jousting circle or can a corner with the tent match a solid green space
Answer: If you’re playing by the correct rules, the tent corners must match up with other tent corners, not solid green edges. That said, in my house we’re open to changing rules when our younger kids are having trouble with them, so you could play it that way if you want. Our policy is just that everyone has to agree in the rule change before we start!
Question: Another rules question, if I create a match of X's but I do not have a tile that color, n the next player put a tile on it and still go again
Answer: No, only the player who places the final tile gets the chance to complete the box.
Question: Would this be "babyish" for a 2nd grader with ample experience playing strategic board games
Answer: Maybe. I think many 2nd graders would still find it fun, but if yours has already played more advanced games, I'd recommend Carcassone. You might have to adapt a rule or two, but it would probably be a good challenge. Both are tile laying games, but Brandon the Brave has triangular tiles, so the options for placement are more limited, to help younger kids learn the ropes. Carcassone has squares and more complex features on the tiles, as well as a more complex scoring. Ticket to Ride First Journey is also fantastic for this age range.

But both belong together - in life and in play. Playing is fun and offers variety. Playing teaches patience. Playing lets us be Happy for other players and learn to get over our own defeats. Playing also incidentally and unconsciously trains concentration, memory, reaction skills and lots more. Everyone who plays has the chance to win - in every new round of the game or in life in general.
