Answer:	Not sure about pitch black. But I have single panels on two living room windows that are the same width as the panels and it's pretty dark. If smaller sized windows and able to bunch up (mine go the entire length of window without any bunching) I would suspect pitch black. Mine are the chocolate covered.

Answer:	No these are not made for drapery hooks. There are tabs along the back at the top for a rod to slide through. I did not use the tabs for a rod, I used a ring with a pinch clip so I could slide the curtain open and shut more easily and wanted the extra length that gave me. So the "ring" hangs on the rod and the pinch clip I attached to the top of the curtain. Hope that makes sense!
