Answer:	I would say they are similar in quality, though the Melissa and Doug foods are larger (especially things like the banana). I like this set because it has a few more unusual foods, and I like that it has certain foods in multiple colors (like the peppers and grapes). But we enjoy the Melissa and Doug set as well.

Answer:	Im not really sure why this set is labeled 3 and up because it is the New Sprouts quality line of food and those are labeled 3 and up so Im not really sure why this toy has the label 3 and up unless they think the sorting and color matching is more at the 3yr old level. My daughter is 19mos old and plays with these toys I don't feel any of them are small enough to be a choking hazard, the smallest piece is the berries and since it's grouped in a cluster I don't really see how anybody could choke on that.

Answer:	The knife is 13" overall with an 8" blade and the width of slicer's cutting area is 6" so yes, it is long enough to reach from side to side. A couple of things I'd like to share: When I first got the slicer, owing to my lack of experience I tried to use a 'long' stroke, sort of like sawing a 2 x 4. That did not end well and I've learned to use short, light strokes resulting in much better results. Also, in the beginning I tended to press down with the knife with the result that I mashed the bread to the consistency of modeling clay. Hence, that reference above to 'light' strokes . In the event your loaf is narrower than the cutting surface you may want to gently and carefully hold the loaf against one side while you're slicing. That will prevent the loaf from sliding side to side and should make the task a lot easier. I realize my reply may be a case of being asked the time and explaining how to make a watch but in any event, I hope it helps. Enjoy!

Extreme changes in temperature will cause the material to crack over time. Dry thoroughly. Occasional use of mineral oil on the inside will help maintain its appearance.

Answer:	It is finished. It has some kind of a glossy coating on it.

Answer:	I think this should be sufficient. I put it in the kitchen sink and use it to wash/rinse utensils...as I cook....then later for salad time! I also have one of those curve knives, can't think of what they are called but it assists in cutting veggies...works in this bowl perfectly. Everyone who sees it in my kitchen loves it.

Guess I'm taking this toy out of my shopping cart. Also annoying that companies are sneaky and dishonest. Rather than just answering your question in a straight forward manner, they cross their fingers and hope that the person asking the question lacks reading comprehension skills. Disappointed in this company.
