It will not harm the porcelain itself if submerge but increases chances of breakage. This tip / recommendation is on all of our packaging. Answer:	We had the pink set. Yes, the dishes are washable. They are ceramic like any mug is. Easy to clean. The basket is wicker though and probably can’t get wet.

Answer:	It is a nice wicker thick basket. The actual tea set is smaller than I expected, but still nice. I broke a piece just pulling it out of the plastic it came in (was able to glue it easily). This is 3 years old already in my house, and my daughter still loves it!

Elton has been in business since et 1980's and has sold thousands of products in the US during that time. As the US Government is so strict on lead-free requirements, they would probably not be in business in the US if they were not in compliance. There is a warning for small parts, not for ages under 3 on the gift tag attached to the handle of each basket.
