Answer:	No. Ours was purchased last fall and it's plywood. The sides are also made of plywood. The inside shelf is particleboard. So the only solid wood parts are the top, and the orange "shelf" for holding accessories, and the doors. Not even 1/3 full solid wood.

Answer:	No- they're affixed to their sticks. They are also more colourful than pictured!! 

Answer:	Yes, you could cut the string but then the shapes wouldn't stay in. It's elastic so it's stretchy. I think partially the toy is better for older kids. My son is 14 months old and just has no interest in this toy.

Answer:	The shapes only fit in the correct holes, but they all fit in the top/bottom holes that you are supposed to use the get them all out again. And it's quite easy to get them all in the top/bottom, but difficult to get them all out again. My kid loves the fact that they rattle though
