User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone know, the columns in this set, is round columns or half coloumn. Thanks |
Answer: | I think they are made in Germany, they are wonderful, they are strong and well made. My three boys play with them almost everyday and they still look new! |
Question: | I'd like to get this set, along with Haba's Middle Eastern and Little Amsterdam block sets. Will they all work together size-wise |
Answer: | "The basic building block is the 4x4x4 cm cube. All the other shapes are derived from this. The triangular block, for example, is the cube diagonally divided. The rectangles and columns are either two, three, or several times the length of the cube. This means the various shapes easily combine while building." That is the description from the booklet that came with the blocks. The largest rectangular blocks are 12x4x4 cm and 16x2x4 cm. The smallest rectangular block is 4x4x2 cm. The smallest dimension used is the cylinder that is 2cm diameter by 4cm length. There are so many different shapes in this set. I hope this helps. |
Question: | Are these made in Germany or in China |
Answer: | I only looked quickly before passing it on to the actual recipient, but I would say no more that 2" square. |
Question: | What are the dimensions of the largest blocks and the smallest blocks |
Answer: | This product is manufactured in Germany just as the title indicates. Any HABA product that says "Made in Germany" is manufactured there. HABA has introduced a comparable line of lower priced wooden toys as an alternative to many of their "made in Germany" items. From the manufacturer: "HABA maintains a wholly owned facility in China. Our employees regularly visit and inspect our partner suppliers and hold them to the highest quality standards and working conditions. Prior to market placement, the safety of the materials, the engineering process, the mechanical endurance testing and the actual use of our products are all tested and documented by independent, third party testing institutes. " The German items are still produced and available for sale, but the lower price points are attractive to many as well. This particular item is definitely Made in Germany and does not have an alternate offering. |

At HABA, safety for our children is the #1 concern
In order to design and produce safe wooden toys HABA has had to make adjustments to the wood used in certain pieces; specifically clutching toys with sharp curves. We’ve learned with experience and testing that the heavily curved pieces are just too susceptible to breakage. As the clutching toy is used more and more and gets wetter (with more saliva) the probability increases. So in order to continue to make beautiful curved pieces HABA has developed a special material called HABAForm.
Design and quality “Made in Germany”
“What do your children‘s inventors actually do?” That’s a question we often get asked at HABA. The answer is simple - they think and tinker, design and discard, draw sketches and build models and they do all that with a good dose of creativity and a keen sense of what children need.
But they’re not alone; instead they’re in constant contact with construction and quality specialists - which materials are safe for children? How big do the balls have to be?
Every year, our German inventors develop around 500 new games and toys for children. While production has expanded to several countries, ALL of our wooden clutching toys (Color Pyramid Included) are Made in Germany.
Materials & Suppliers
- We use woods from sustainable forestry in Germany in the production of all of our wooden clutching toys.
- All paints are water-based and solvent-free. For decades, we have been working together with German supply partners to only use first-class stains, varnishes and print colors.
- Materials for toys that we don’t produce in Bad Rodach are checked and monitored in Germany in their unproces-sed form (e.g. paints in liquid form)
For baby toys we also check whether they fulfill the requirements of the GS mark. GS stands for “Geprüfte Sicherheit” or “tested safety” and means that the products are voluntarily and continually tested by the manufacturer.
HABA's Toys comply with all US and European Safety Standards for toys
HABA toys are tested for all applicable European and American safety standards by an accredited 3rd party testing institute. Independently we carry out the following tests:
- Submersion tests for testing the resistance of all individual parts with subsequent tensile test.
- Impact and fall tests
- Tests for flammability, saliva and sweat-proofness
- We also use special stencils to check whether small parts can be swallowed by children under three years, and we check the string lengths of pull-along animals etc.
Tests are good, but experience is better.
Things that are obvious in everyday life also stand true for toys. No test logos or regulations can replace a guardian‘s alertness! For example, please note the information on recommended ages: a safe toy for a child over three years can still be unsafe for a younger one.
Parents and children have treasured our toys as trusty companions for 70 years. We want them to always be able to trust HABA in the future too, so that’s why we’re always adapting our toys to meet the most up-to-date regulations and guidelines. We are also continually optimising technology and our production processes.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this toy completely non toxic |
Answer: | HABA toys are all designed in Germany and while some are made in Germany, many are manufactured in China yes. What I like about the European toy manufacturers though is that they have to comply to EU standards for toy safety which are far more stringent than that of the US. The US standards are determined by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a Federally funded organization that over sees all consumer products not just toys. They are chronically under funded, under staffed and not immune to lobbying efforts. Consequently not "All made in China" is the same. When manufacturers are very strict of their own quality and impose high standards through strict guidelines for and inspections of manufacturing facilities the product is of superior quality.I am not associated with HABA in anyway. I am independent business owner that runs an online toy library (Toy-Yo), for well-crafted educational toys and I personally conduct a lot of research into the quality of toys that goes on our site. HABA is one of my favorite brands and our customers love it as well. I vet them thoroughly. |
Question: | Are all of them really wobbly |
Answer: | The paint has never worn off from the blocks - for us at least. Both my boys have played heavily with these blocks throughout their young years. I bought these blocks back in 2008. I don't know if Haba is using a different kind of paint now, or if you just got a flukey faulty toy. I'm surprised to hear paint wore off of a Haba toy. They have a stellar reputation for superb quality with their toys. |
Question: | Is this toy made in Germany? I have heard that HABA is sadly moving toward actually manufacturing their toys in China |
Answer: | Yes - at least they were when I bought them! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do I clean this toy |
Answer: | The toy is made to the highest German and EU standards which I believe are higher than those required in the US. |
Question: | Is it made in China |
Answer: | My granddaughter sucks and chews on her toy without leaving stains or marks. |
Question: | Does this toy meet the US lead standards |
Answer: | Yes, all items by HABA including this one are free from toxins including but not limited to: BPA, phthalates, PVC, flame retardants and water repellent chemicals. You can learn more about their materials and safety here: http://www.habausa.com/safety/ They also publish and make available all certificates of compliance on every one of their products, which can be accessed here. These documents detail which toy testing requirements each toy must meet and pass to be sold in the US and Europe. http://www.haba.de/en_US/coc |
Question: | Does the stain come off easily when sucked or chewed on? My 9 month old is teething and has ruined some other wooden toys we have |
Answer: | The wooden stems all tend to be somewhat wobbly, but they don’t fall over. Actually, the various colorful wooden rings and “vases” in the set can be dropped down the stems before adding the flower, and that steadies them. This is a beautiful, well-made set made to last, though I confess that I seem to enjoy them more than the kiddos do. |

Building Blocks are an elemental toy
Little wooden blocks first became an established feature of nurseries and kindergartens more than 150 years ago. Children's fascination with cubes, rectangles and triangles is just as intense today as it was in great grandpa's days. The endless opportunities to combine play and fun with learning are the features to which building blocks owe their lasting appeal.
Give your child time and space to build things and you will be amazed at the imaginative outcome!
As children build different structures they are working on S-T-E-M skills. Getting each one to stack just right or fit together really makes them think about shapes and gasp… MATH! Don’t you love when they think they are playing but really they are learning too?
Using blocks develops both hand and mind.
Building blocks enable children to fashion their own worlds because they are an especially creative toy. Stacking blocks is the start of building. The actual building process is more important to children than the finished structure. i.e.children will constantly demolish in order to rebuild. Blocks help to advance both motor and brain functions.

HABA Rattles, Teethers & Clutches Oh My!
Our love of children is obvious. It can be seen every time we hold one of our products in our hands, or give it to a child. We love what we do, and we give you our word; For as long as there are children, we will continue being passionate about developing children’s toys and games, and distributing them around the world. What you receive from HABA is always 100 percent full of love, in other words “from HABA with love”!
HABA on the outside means quality on the inside
It is reflected in everything we do – and have done for 80 years. The HABA Family of Companies is in its third generation today – and the small family business from back then has grown into a modern, internationally active family company headquartered in Bad Rodach, Germany.
HABA accompanies children on their journey through life with games and toys that challenge, encourage and, above all, bring a lot of joy. We develop and produce high-quality products for children and their families in an energy and resource preserving manner at all stages of the value chain. We achieve this on the one hand through highly efficient processes and production methods and on the other thanks to highly motivated employees, for whom the idea of quality is also firmly anchored in their thinking and actions.
