Answer:	It says 18 months but I think 12 months. I got it for my granddaughter at a younger age, she likes to see it turn but is most interested in taking the gears off and then chewing on them.

Answer:	Yes, they come off easily, and no does not make it difficult. It is really cute, and they can spin all the gears around. Not a toy you can carry around, cause gears will fall off, but it is great fun. My grandaugher loves it. Great for learning colors too.

Also - the animal sounds leave a lot to be desired. I was disappointed with the product but my now 8 month old granddaughter loves it (she's had it since 5 months) so that's what matters!

Answer:	I don't like to generalize about children's abilities, but not many 9 month olds have the hand eye coordination to match shapes into holes. However they would enjoy playing with the pieces and carrying the case. Makes a nice travel toy and they will develop the ability to use it correctly soon enough. Ideally I think this gift would be best for about 18mos to 2 yrs.
