Answer:	I'm glad you asked. I realized I hadn't answered this interesting question myself when I checked the first time. The two tips are the same geometry, hollow cylinder. The Weller tip has an outside diameter of about 0.247 inches. The Hakko had OD 0.268 inches, and thus doesn't quite slip into the Weller "socket".

Answer:	I can only tell you that it worked through dry wall and It did recognize the wood studs around a door. And it worked exactly as described. I suspect that it will work through plaster, but I have no plaster in my house. I looked for the studs around the door to make sure that it worked.

Answer:	I don'y have experience with the deep waver, but my hair is in layers and it is cut in a bob, just above my shoulders also. I love this waver ! Makes a nice wave without the kinky look. Just takes some practice. There are a ton of videos on YouTube show how to use this waver in short hair. Check them out and I think you will have a better idea. Hope this helps.
