Answer:	The batteries are Lithium Ion and you have to be careful not store them in excessive heat. Use a charger that stops charging when the batteries are fully charged. The chances of an explosion are slim and if you take these precautions, the chances are even lower.

Answer:	No, but you can select the duration of the time it will stay lit for up to 2 hours. I don't think it will remain on for more than 2 hours. Also you can select the intensity of the light from 10% to 100%

Answer:	No, but the battery life is very good. It has a green-yellow-red light to indicate battery health for a second when the unit is turned on. I used it nightly for a week this summer fly fishing in Oregon and several times performing chores around the house since then and the charge light is still yellow. Let me finally say that this unit is solidly built and well engineered. Possibly the best $40 I ever spent.
