Answer:	Technically, yes. I have not tried it for that purpose. I suspect that the fresher it is the better your chances.

Remember that the 5w in advertisements refers to the amount of electricity consumed and it says nothing about the intensity of the light. Some brands of UV lights have more efficient LEDs than other brands. None of the brands give you enough information to compare. Light is measured in Lux, watts/sq cm and other such units, not watts. I will say that this light does a great job of making the security stipe in legit US paper money really pop out. Do not look into the beam. Most of the light is invisible to the human eye, but it can still hurt your eyes. This is a UV light which you can't see. Just like UV can give you a sunburn, this light could hurt your eyes.

Answer:	Push the tail button to turn the flashlight on, point it to where you suspect maybe stains, take your carpet as an example, in fact any stains will show up in the UV light beam. Answer:	You should not look directly at the bulb! But yes it is ultra violet, of which the most common (and by far the least expensive) is sold as 365nm. A number of minerals fluoress under that light, but other minerals require a shorter wave uv light and those lights cost numerous hundreds of dollars. This one is a good light if you want the 365 nm wavelength. It works well on, for example, green fluorite.

Answer:	Yes the battery can be replaced but not by a novice. Wahl recommends that the rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries in this unit be replaced by Wahl and not the user. If you are a mechanical or electronically oriented person you may be able to do it yourself. But let me say this. My Wahl 9918-6171 unit arrived on 8/30/13. I charged it overnight and then disconnected from the cord and have been using it as a cordless trimmer ever since it's first use on 8/31/13. I have yet to recharge it and it is still working today 9/16/13 as well as the first time that I used it. If at some future date the charge of this cordless unit is too low when I go to use it - NO PROBLEM - I will just plug it in and use it as a corded trimmer and after using it leave it plugged in to recharge. I do want to make you aware though that my use is only as a mustache and side burn trimmer. I have no beard.
