User questions & answers

Question: can i fly with this for overseas use
Answer: No. This does not sync with those.
Question: These CO2 detectors have a shelf life, how do we get these with the full life of the unit? Some are already past the exp. date
Answer: Yes. Batteries are included.
Question: Will this give your exact co level even if it's normal or only if the co is dangerous
Answer: This PL-259 Jumper Cable is usually used for HAM & CB Radio, Antenna Analyzer, Dummy Load, SWR Meter. If it is used for WIFI modem, you need to check if your device has SO239 connector.
Question: is this good for travel
Answer: Loss in a co-ax is a function of frequency. Assuming we are talking about the 12” patches. At 1ft of RG58 run 14MHz(20m band) it has a 0.013dB loss, at 440MHz (70cm band) it has 0.08dB loss... which yeah if you add everything up it could be rather substantial. As a patch cable though. If you want to try patching with a LMR400UF, that’s all on you, but you can’t beat the flexibility of RG58 If you’re going to attempt to run say 100ft of RG58 on 70cm yeah... 90% of your power goes to de-icing the feed line. It all depends on your application :D 73 de KN4GEI

User questions & answers

Question: What is the manufacture date on these items
Answer: Hello. Yes, but not the way you mean. When the alarms go off, there is always one alarm going off and setting off all of the others. This alarm will have a green light flashing every second as well as the red light. You have to identify that alarm and either put it in HUSH mode or unplug it and take it down to stop the others. This is intentional so that if you are not leaving the house then you are identifying and investigating where the smoke situation is and if there is danger. The HUSH mode will make the alarm require more smoke to go off and for a small amount of smoke will stop it for about 8 minutes If there is too much smoke, the HUSH mode will not stop the alarm for going off.
Question: If the alarm goes off, how can you tell whether it's due to CO or fire if there is no voice alert
Answer: Hello. Yes, this alarm comes with a wiring harness connector.
Question: Because its a combo alarm where is the best place to install it since smoke rises and carbon monoxide doesn't
Answer: Hello. The answer is no, the battery is only a temporary back up. If you want an alarm that is battery only, you will want our KN-COPE-D.
Question: Why does this model contain the radioactive part? I am sure you are going to tell me that it is a trace amount and that it has all approvals
Answer: Hello. When plugged in AC power, it is supposed to have a solid green LED light. When running on battery alone, it should have a green light that flickers every 60 seconds. If this is not what is happening, call us when you are on location with a ladder at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and how we can resolve this.
Question: When these are interconnected with other units, can hushing one of them hush all of them? Some of mine are in places that are hard to get to
Answer: I paid FOR for 6 and only got 4. It’s listed as 6. I had to buy two more from Home Depot. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.
Question: does it come with the hardwire connector
Answer: Does not connect to hard wire. Only battery
Question: Do you have to hardwire it in? Can it run on just the battery
Answer: I just checked 2 of them, and am unable to locate that information.
Question: How do you tell if it is working properly. Is it supposed to have a constant light
Answer: The back cover comes off install battery and replace

User questions & answers

Question: Each unit has built-in alarm Sound
Answer: Yes. Being a single stage urethane, I'd recommend spraying with a larger nozzle, like a 1.8. Let it heal up for at least a few days, then wet sand with progressively finer grits. I think if you follow this with a buffer and Meguiars buffing compounds, you'll be pleased with the finished product. This paint is decent for an economical finish. Good luck and hope this helped.
Question: my heat alarma have been going off in all three apartments of my house every 15 min, they stop after 4-5 sec .There is no problem and the smoke alarms are only six months old
Answer: T-Rex primer works very well
Question: Does this interconnect with other alarms made by First Alert
Answer: Depending on color your going over you will probably need two gals
Question: My attic gets very hot in summer (in Dallas). If the outdoor temp is 108 attic could be close to 135 I assume. Will the slow rate of rise prevent the alarm from sounding
Answer: No this is acrylic enamel they do sell lacquer as well though.

Advanced Technology in an Easy-to-Install, Plug-In Design

Designed for home use, the Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is a UL-listed, A/C-powered, plug-in CO alarm that utilizes sophisticated electronic components and sensor technology to protect you and your family from the dangers of CO. It plugs directly into a standard A/C outlet and includes a 9-volt battery backup that provides continuous monitoring of CO levels--even during power outages.

About Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer

The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.

Audible Alarm Pattern Alerts you to Elevated CO Levels

When placed on every level of your home, alarms like the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk can help protect everyone in the house from CO exposure by giving you an unmistakable signal when levels have reached an unhealthy point. If unhealthy levels are detected, the alarm will emit four quick audible beats every five seconds until either levels decrease or the reset button is pressed.

Easy-to-Read Digital Display Shows CO Levels

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is unique among traditional CO alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows levels of CO that the unit has detected and stored-- from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds to indicate any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged.

LED Shows Sensor Status

With the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk, you never have to wonder if the sensor is functioning properly. A blinking dot in the lower right-hand corner of the display denotes normal operation, so you can trust that it's working. In addition, you can test alarm function by pressing the test/reset button at any time to verify that the horn and electric circuitry are operating properly.

Convenient Mounting Options

The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a low-profile design that makes it suitable for any room in your home. The detector can be plugged into any standard A/C outlet; it's plug can be snapped into the back of the unit and can be rotated so the alarm remains vertical, independent of whether the electrical socket is mounted vertically or horizontally. In addition, the alarm comes with a 6-foot extension cord, so the unit can be plugged into the wall outlet and then placed on a table or shelf. For the most thorough protection, place an alarm on every level of your home.

The UL-listed Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a seven-year life and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

Product description

The First Alert SCO5CN Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm features dual sensors to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide in a single device. A photoelectric sensor detects the smoke most often produced by smoldering fires, and minimizes false alarms from cooking smoke or shower steam. Additionally, the advanced electrochemical CO sensor detects carbon monoxide leaks from multiple sources, such as faulty fuel burning appliances, blocked chimneys, and generators running inside or too close to homes. A loud, 85 decibel siren alerts you to the threat; unique alarm sounds and indicator lights on its face distinguish a smoke warning from a carbon monoxide warning. This carbon monoxide and smoke detector is battery operated, so you don't need an electrician for installation. Requiring just two AA batteries and featuring an easy access battery compartment for quick changes, this smoke and carbon monoxide detector has a single button that allows you to silence a false alarm or test the unit.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air.

The First Alert SCO5CN carbon monoxide and smoke alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. The alarm uses photoelectric smoke sensing technology which is environmentally friendlier and which reduces nuisance alarms, making it ideal for cooking areas. It is also great for sensing slow smoldering fires quickly. The permanent sensors last the lifetime of the alarm. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. A low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 5-year limited warranty. UL listed. Not available for sale in Massachusetts.--Bree Norlander

User questions & answers

Question: pack is $30, 2 pack is $90. Why is a two pack so much? I thought the idea was to incentivize more product at a lower cost. This is halarious
Answer: I no longer live in the apartment where I replaced the old smoke alarm, but you will love this one. It's so nice to flip the battery holder down and not have to remove the battery from the unit.
Question: Advice on false alarms? Goes off every week or so. It's in our kitchen/living room, but goes off even when we are not cooking. Goes 1 min then stops
Answer: No
Question: I have these througout my house and rental unit. Installed them about 7 years ago and many malfunctioning. Any durability mprovments since 7 yrs ago
Answer: The instructions that come with the unit duplicate what I have read from several Fire Department sources: you can place your unit on the ceiling, but AT LEAST 4 inches (10cm) from the wall. If you want to mount it on the wall, mount it MORE THAN 4 inches (10cm) BELOW the ceiling, but NO LOWER than12 inches (30cm) below the ceiling. It has to be high enough up the wall to "smell" the smoke, but that 4 x 4 inch (10cm x 10cm) area where the wall meets the ceiling can sometimes harbor a "dead zone" of still air where the smoke would NOT reach the detector quickly enough during a fire to warn you in time. Thus, do NOT mount your detectors too close to where the wall meets the ceiling.
Question: How long do batteries last
Answer: Ionization type. I actually looked at at manual to be certain.

User questions & answers

Question: My entire home is equipped with BRK smoke detector (4120 B) and Carbon Monox Det (CO50120B). They need replacing. Will new BRK fit extant casings
Answer: Yes all the wired Nest Protect needs is the 120V hot (black) and neutral (white) wires in the electrical box connected to the plug-in pigtail that comes with the Protect. If your house has multiple detectors now you will usually also find a red wire in the electrical box that interconnects your old detectors so that if one goes off they all sound. That wire is no longer needed with the Protect so you just cap it with a wire nut.
Question: can these be connected together so if one is set off they all go off
Answer: Yes, but only if you are connected to the internet and then only for the last ten days, and only if the level rises above the heads up level (which is 70ppm and rising for around an hour or a shorter period if over 150ppm). To counter what someone else's answer was - Carbon monoxide does NOT sink. It is in fact lighter than air (CO has an atomic weight of 28 versus Nitrogen (N2) which is also 28 - but marginally heavier (by 0.003 amu due to heavier isotopes), Oxygen (O2) which is 32 and Argon which is 40. However the weight is similar enough in the air in your house that it tends to distribute as a fluid and is measurable anywhere in a room; it really depends upon how air moves through the space. The levels tend to fluctuate rapidly as CO distributes and any outside air mixes in and additional CO is added. Overall, there is no perfect way to measure the CO levels with one device in one place, but this is as good as most people need.
Question: How does the Alarm Latch feature "easily identify initiating alarm"? This is major problem with false alarms on my existing Kidde/Firex dual alarms
Answer: I just checked this for you. I unplugged my wifi router and started a test. All detectors alarmed as expected. So, yes, the system works even without active wifi.
Question: Can a BRK Model 92120B smoke detector directly plug in and replace an old BRK Model 4120B smoke detector (without an adapter
Answer: I think very few here understand the question. National code requires interconnected smoke detectors as of 2004, there is an extra wire in the circuit and all smoke detectors are on that wire for 'signal'. When one alarms they should ALL alarm. If I am reading the answers correctly, NEST does not comply with the signal wire. However, it looks like it does set up its own wireless network to act like they are all interconnected. To be honest, after paying for the extra wire behind the wall, why would I want to by 6-8 nests at $100 each when the originals are 20-30 each? This way there is one smart point to notify if any detector is going off. Nests way 6-9 smoke detectors, 6-8 login, 6-8 ip address. Ugh, what a nightmare!

Product description

The Kidde I9010 is a 10-year, sealed battery operated smoke alarm featuring hush, alarm memory, and a self-activation mechanism that makes installation simple and easy. The alarm will automatically activate when it is attached to the mounting bracket; there are no pull-tabs, no switches-everything is automatic. The sealed-in board-mounted battery will power the unit for its complete 10-year life. No replacement battery will ever be needed, and an end of life alert indicates when it is time to replace the alarm. At the end of the alarm's 10-year life, deactivation of the alarm is just as easy. Using a tool such as a small screwdriver, a deactivation switch removes power from the alarm and renders the battery safe for disposal. As an added safety mechanism, The alarm lockout feature prevents a deactivated unit from being mounted back on the mounting bracket. This alarm also features hush technology, allowing consumers to temporarily silence nuisance alarms, and an alarm memory feature that alerts the user via rapidly flashing LED lights if the alarm has sounded since the last time The test/Reset button was used. This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help ensure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.

Product Highlights No battery replacement for the lifetime of the alarm Powered by a tamper-free sealed lithium power supply Self-Activation automatically activates unit when attached to bracket Smart Hush silences alarm in non emergencies Money-saving alarm is great for homes and rental properties This alarm uses ionization sensing technology for the smoke alarm. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home. Great for Homes and Rental Properties This tamper-free alarm prevents battery or alarm removal, eliminating worry about unauthorized battery removal or unauthorized deactivation of the alarm. Also, this alarm is a good choice for rental properties and high-density dwellings, as its sealed tamper-free design prevents theft, while also reducing labor and material costs. This helps to ensure that the property and inhabitants are protected by a fully operational alarm. Easy to Install with Self Activation The innovative automatic activation of this alarm is unlike any other smoke alarm design. The alarm will automatically activate when it is attached to the mounting bracket; there are no pull tabs and no switches--everything is automatic. At the end of the alarm life, the unit will chirp, indicating the alarm is in need of replacement. You can use a simple tool, such as a screwdriver, to deactivate the unit, stopping the low-battery chirp and making the alarm safe for disposal. The sealed-in board-mounted batteries will power the unit for its complete 10-year life. No replacement batteries will ever be needed. Trademarked Hush Feature for Convenience By pressing the smoke alarm's Hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners. This alarm's Smart Hush feature has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the alarm circuit for up to eight minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the Test/Hush button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. The red LED will illuminate for 1.5 seconds every eight seconds while in Hush mode. This indicates that the alarm is in a temporarily desensitized condition. Additionally, the smoke alarm will automatically reset after approximately eight minutes and sound the alarm if particles of combustion are still present. Smart Hush can be used repeatedly until the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm. Pushing the Test/Hush button on the alarm will end the hush period. Power Outage Protection, Indicator LED, and Test Feature A 10-year sealed lithium battery powers this alarm, providing continuous protection against smoke and fire hazards even during power outages. Because a smoke alarm only helps protect you if it's working, this unit features a red LED that flashes every 40 to 45 seconds to indicate that it is operating correctly. For additional peace of mind, the alarm contains a Test/Reset button that enables you to periodically test its circuitry and horn. The unit measures just 5.6 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches in depth, and it features a neutral, white finish. This smoke alarm is UL listed, so you can be confident of its quality, and it is backed by a 10-year limited warranty. User questions & answers

Question: I ordered the 4 pack and 3 of them worked fine. One would just make a slight sound when tested. I would just like to have the one replaced. Not sure h
Answer: Good morning! At this time, there is no adapter for this model to make it switchable. Sorry.Spray Foam Systems
Question: can this model be interconnected
Answer: the one 3m recommended to me was M Multi Gas/Vapor Cartridge/Filter 60926, P100 Respiratory Protection (Pack of 2 individual cartridges)
Question: Can these be battery and hard wired
Answer: Probably ok for fallout. It depends more on the filter than the mask, as with fallout you're essentially performing dust protection for very very fine particulate. A P100 filter (~$10 per set) is the best consumer protection you can buy from 3M, and it could very well do the job.
Question: Are there 2 detectors in this offer
Answer: I used the website below that was extremely informative for sizes. The mask is the same size and has adjustable straps for all head sizes. The sizing differences of small, medium & large have to do with the inside rubber seal the goes around your face (cheeks, chin, forehead). There is a 3M mask fit test kit but it costs $240 from 3M. 80% of people fit the Medium size. 5% small and 15% large. The website below offers a visual comparison of how the gaskets differ in size. PHOTOELECTRIC SMOKE ALARM IS FAR MORE SENSITIVE AND EFFECTIVE THAN IONIZATION SMOKE ALARM

  • How does Photoelectric Smoke alarm works?

  1. Inside the smoke alarm, there is a LED light that sends a beam of light (similar to a laser pointer) in a separate compartment inside the chamber, there is a photosensor that detects light.
  2. As smoke enters the detector, the smoke particles interrupt the light beam, scattering it in many directions. Some of the LED light scatters toward the light sensor. When light beams hit the sensor, the alarm will go off!
  3. When the batteries in your smoke alarm get low, the smoke alarm automatically activates a low battery chirping sound different from the alarm sound so you know it's time to get new batteries.

  • Photoelectric sensors are set off when smoke enters the alarm and deflects the light of an LED beam onto a photocell.
  • For slow, smoky, smoldering fires, photoelectric alarms are far more sensitive and effective.
  • Choose a photoelectric model as our primary choice, killing the fire at the begining.

Installation Notes:

1. Turn the alarm body counterclockwise and take off the bracket.

2. Hold the bracket in the installation position as specified in the Recommended Locations, mark installation holes of the bracket with a pencil.

3. Drill the two marked installation holes with a 3/16 inch (5mm) drill bit. Tap the two plastic grommets into holes with a hammer.

4. Mount the bracket to the ceiling by inserting and tightening the supplied screws into plastic grommets.

5. Connect the battery to the power connector.

6. Fix the battery into the battery box.

7. Fit the alarm on the bracket and turn the alarm body clockwise, until fully inserted into the bracket.

Everyone and home all need it ! save you lives !!!

Features

The KN-COPP-LPM is an essential device to help warn you and your family of dangerous carbon monoxide levels in your home. This alarm measures the exposure to carbon monoxide over time; it is designed to sound at 85 decibels at 10 feet when it detects 70 ppm (parts per million) of CO for 60 to 240 minutes, 150 ppm for 10 to 50 minutes, or 400 ppm for 4 to 15 minutes. The easily visible digital display indicates the level of CO that the unit is sensing, and it updates the status every 15 seconds for timely and accurate readings. Its free-standing design allows for attachment to a wall or placement on a counter or nightstand for convenient and comprehensive protection. The KN-COPP-LPM also includes a slide-out battery door that provides immediate access to the power source as well as a battery safeguard that makes it difficult to close the cover without batteries installed. An LED lighting system on the unit signals power levels and sourcing: the green LED will flash once every 30 seconds to indicate the alarm is operating properly when power is present, and the red LED will pulse to indicate carbon monoxide has been detected until the device is reset or the CO threat is eliminated. This device has an expected 7-year lifespan and comes equipped with a five-year manufacturer’s limited warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: Will these wired ones install on old electrical wired systems? The thermostat needed an additional wire installed. Will these, too

If your house has multiple detectors now you will usually also find a red wire in the electrical box that interconnects your old detectors so that if one goes off they all sound. That wire is no longer needed with the Protect so you just cap it with a wire nut.

Question: What happens if the wifi disconnects? Does the alarm sound
Answer: The Nest Protects and Nest Learning Thermostat create their own ad-hoc network and don't rely on your home wifi for communications between devices. WiFi is only used for communications OUTSIDE of the home to pass on alerts, etc. Even if the ad-hoc network fails the individual alarms will sound as they detect smoke/CO.
Question: My home has hard-wired interconnected smoke detectors. can i simply replace one with this device? i read that it doesn't use interconnect wire
