9 best firex smoke alarms

Firex is a well-known brand that specializes in producing smoke alarms and fire safety products for residential and commercial use. They are a reputable company known for their commitment to ensuring the safety of homes and businesses by providing reliable smoke detection solutions. Here are some key points about Firex smoke alarms:

  1. Variety of Models: Firex offers a range of smoke alarms and detectors to meet various needs. These include ionization smoke alarms, photoelectric smoke alarms, combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and interconnected smoke alarms.

  2. Interconnected Alarms: Many Firex smoke alarms are designed to be interconnected, which means that if one alarm detects smoke or fire, it can trigger all interconnected alarms throughout the building. This feature is especially useful for larger homes or commercial properties, as it ensures that everyone is alerted in case of an emergency.

  3. Reliable Detection: Firex smoke alarms are designed to provide early and reliable detection of smoke and fire. Ionization alarms are more sensitive to flaming fires, while photoelectric alarms are better at detecting smoldering fires. Some Firex models combine both technologies for comprehensive fire detection.

  4. Battery and Hardwired Options: Firex offers both battery-operated and hardwired smoke alarms. Battery-powered alarms are easy to install and suitable for areas without existing wiring, while hardwired alarms are typically interconnected and powered by the building's electrical system.

  5. Maintenance and Testing: Regular testing and maintenance are essential for the proper functioning of smoke alarms. Firex alarms usually come with a test button to ensure they are working correctly. They also have features to indicate low battery levels.

  6. Carbon Monoxide Detection: In addition to smoke detection, some Firex alarms include carbon monoxide (CO) detection capabilities. This is crucial for protecting against this odorless, colorless gas, which can be deadly if undetected.

  7. Compliance with Standards: Firex smoke alarms typically comply with safety standards and regulations in the regions they are sold. This ensures that their products meet the necessary safety requirements.

  8. Installation: Firex smoke alarms are generally designed for easy installation. The packaging typically includes mounting hardware and clear instructions to assist users in setting up the alarms correctly.

  9. Replacement Recommendations: It's important to note that smoke alarms have a limited lifespan, usually around 10 years. Firex recommends replacing their alarms after this time to ensure continued reliability and safety.

  10. Emergency Planning: Alongside installing smoke alarms, it's crucial to have an emergency evacuation plan in place and to practice it with your family or occupants regularly.

Firex smoke alarms play a critical role in fire safety by providing early warning in the event of a fire, giving people valuable time to evacuate safely. Regular maintenance, testing, and compliance with safety standards are essential to ensure their effectiveness.

User questions & answers

Question: The description says: “Visible low battery indicator helps locate chirping unit”...is this true? Had a helluva time trying to locate a chirping unit
Answer: Tried fitting my shooting glasses in the the earmuffs.. You can set them in there but cannot put them in there if they have their own protective case. The case is nice and the earmuffs fit in there well.
Question: Can ionization detectors be disposed of in regular trash? One of the videos said they are radioactive
Answer: These fit full size nonelectric so any of the Walkers should fit with room to spare
Question: Can these replace model
Answer: Yes. I use them with the Howard Leight by Honeywell R-01902 Impact Pro Sound Amplification Electronic Earmuff. The are made for this model.
Question: Do these come within date? I don't want to buy if it will be out of date on the back
Answer: Yes, I have not seen a head too large to fit these cups. Really it is more about the size of your ears. Folks with larger ears do not always fit well into smaller cups. Generally it is better to use a more rectangular cup so tht the ear lobe does not interfere with the ear seal. The Gold II 30 would be your best bet for indoor shooting. I would always double plug for added protection. With the great sound in the Pro Ears you can still hear clearly.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the manufacture date on these items
Answer: Hello. Yes, but not the way you mean. When the alarms go off, there is always one alarm going off and setting off all of the others. This alarm will have a green light flashing every second as well as the red light. You have to identify that alarm and either put it in HUSH mode or unplug it and take it down to stop the others. This is intentional so that if you are not leaving the house then you are identifying and investigating where the smoke situation is and if there is danger. The HUSH mode will make the alarm require more smoke to go off and for a small amount of smoke will stop it for about 8 minutes If there is too much smoke, the HUSH mode will not stop the alarm for going off.
Question: If the alarm goes off, how can you tell whether it's due to CO or fire if there is no voice alert
Answer: Hello. Yes, this alarm comes with a wiring harness connector.
Question: Because its a combo alarm where is the best place to install it since smoke rises and carbon monoxide doesn't
Answer: Hello. The answer is no, the battery is only a temporary back up. If you want an alarm that is battery only, you will want our KN-COPE-D.
Question: Why does this model contain the radioactive part? I am sure you are going to tell me that it is a trace amount and that it has all approvals
Answer: Hello. When plugged in AC power, it is supposed to have a solid green LED light. When running on battery alone, it should have a green light that flickers every 60 seconds. If this is not what is happening, call us when you are on location with a ladder at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and how we can resolve this.
Question: When these are interconnected with other units, can hushing one of them hush all of them? Some of mine are in places that are hard to get to
Answer: I paid FOR for 6 and only got 4. It’s listed as 6. I had to buy two more from Home Depot. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.
Question: does it come with the hardwire connector
Answer: Does not connect to hard wire. Only battery
Question: Do you have to hardwire it in? Can it run on just the battery
Answer: I just checked 2 of them, and am unable to locate that information.
Question: How do you tell if it is working properly. Is it supposed to have a constant light
Answer: The back cover comes off install battery and replace

User questions & answers

Question: What's required to turn off a false alarm
Answer: NRR-noise reduction rating.have not tried them in a work situation but u can put these on have a great conversation with someone and the moment a loud noise like a gun shot or loud smack the world is all quiet I will tell u they work great for shooting me and my son and girlfriend where them while shooting and you really regret the moment a gun goes off and u don't have them on!!! The Howard lieghts are probably even quiter though
Question: Does this replace firex model 120-1182? will it fit on the same mounting ring as that model and use the same wiring connector
Answer: I got the full size version on Mar 4 2020 and it has no input jack.
Question: Got 2 answers, both rectangular & triangle!!?? it can't be both! which is it
Answer: Yes. The product states any noise over 85dbs will activate the headphones. The average wife nagging levels range from 87dbs to 120dbs (in extreme circumstances). Unfortunately this will also blockout the t.v. until the nagging stops. Reducing the wife nagging time ( or WNT) can be reduced by simply nodding and stating “yes dear” in a calm and clear voice.
Question: Is the color really, as the description states, "Brick-red?" Seriously
Answer: This is just the case glasses and ear muffs sold separately.

Question: Is there anyway to get only 3 of these adaptors since they weren’t included with my first alert alarm purchase. I need three pin close in a line
Answer: i wear same waist and 32 jeans i would recommend the 42 or 44 waist depending upon how close you are to 38 or 40 if your closer to 40 and want to wear them so the waist is not snug go with 44 waist if your length is closer to 30 or 31 stay with the 30 length. they are not short could be a little long hope this helps! i am 6' 235lbs before exterior clothing and teh 32 is plenty long almost too long
Question: Are there 2 adapters for two smoke detectors or is this one adapter for one smoke detector
Answer: Yes they are lined and heavy. You need the unlined.
