12 best filtrete ac smoke detectors

Filtrete AC smoke detectors, also known as Filtrete smoke alarms, are a type of smoke detector designed for use in residential and commercial buildings to provide early detection of smoke and potential fire hazards. These devices are manufactured by Filtrete, a well-known brand in the field of indoor air quality and safety products. Here's what you need to know about Filtrete AC smoke detectors:

  1. Smoke Detection: Filtrete AC smoke detectors are equipped with advanced smoke-sensing technology that can detect the presence of smoke particles in the air. When smoke is detected, the alarm system is triggered, alerting occupants to the potential fire danger.

  2. Fire Safety: These smoke detectors play a crucial role in fire safety by providing early warning in the event of a fire. Early detection allows occupants to evacuate the building quickly and can significantly reduce the risk of injuries and property damage.

  3. AC-Powered: Filtrete AC smoke detectors are typically designed to be hardwired into the electrical system of the building. They are powered by the building's AC (alternating current) electrical supply, which ensures continuous operation. Many models also include battery backup to provide protection in case of a power outage.

  4. Interconnectivity: Some Filtrete smoke detectors offer the option for interconnectivity. When multiple detectors are interconnected, if one detector detects smoke, it triggers all interconnected detectors to sound their alarms simultaneously. This feature enhances safety by ensuring that occupants throughout the building are alerted to the danger.

  5. Testing and Maintenance: Regular testing and maintenance are essential to ensure that Filtrete AC smoke detectors are functioning correctly. Most models have a test button that allows users to verify that the alarm sounds as expected. It's also important to replace batteries and follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.

  6. Installation: Proper installation of Filtrete AC smoke detectors is critical for their effectiveness. They should be strategically placed in various areas of the building, including bedrooms, hallways, and near potential fire hazards such as kitchens. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions for best results.

  7. Compliance: Filtrete AC smoke detectors are typically designed to comply with relevant safety standards and building codes. Compliance ensures that the detectors meet specific performance and safety criteria.

  8. Additional Features: Depending on the model, Filtrete AC smoke detectors may offer additional features such as carbon monoxide detection, voice alerts, and wireless connectivity to mobile devices for remote monitoring and alerts.

  9. Replacement: Smoke detectors have a limited lifespan, and it's important to replace them as recommended by the manufacturer. Typically, this is every 10 years, but individual models may vary.

Filtrete AC smoke detectors are an important component of fire safety systems in homes and businesses. They provide peace of mind by offering early warning of smoke and potential fire incidents, allowing occupants to take prompt action to protect themselves and their property.Proper installation, testing, and maintenance are key to ensuring their reliability and effectiveness.

User questions & answers

Question: My entire home is equipped with BRK smoke detector (4120 B) and Carbon Monox Det (CO50120B). They need replacing. Will new BRK fit extant casings
Answer: Hello. No. Our current alarms do not work with First Alert alarms and they are not compatible. They will either need to be all Kidde or all First Alert.
Question: can these be connected together so if one is set off they all go off
Answer: Yes
Question: How does the Alarm Latch feature "easily identify initiating alarm"? This is major problem with false alarms on my existing Kidde/Firex dual alarms
Answer: Up to 12 smoke or smoke + CO alarms can be connected, along with up to 6 non-alarm devices, such as strobes and horns. This is per the manufacturer's website.
Question: Can a BRK Model 92120B smoke detector directly plug in and replace an old BRK Model 4120B smoke detector (without an adapter
Answer: Hello. While the alarms are going off, the alarm setting off all of the others, the red LED light and then the green LED light will blink, every second. The other alarms will just have the red. If they stop on their own, the alarm that set off all of the others will have a red and amber LED light flashing one second each every 10 seconds. If you are getting nuisance alarms, we would recommend going ahead and blowing out all of the alarms around the back side edges very thoroughly with a can of compressed air like a can of keyboard cleaner. This will go a long way to avoiding nuisance alarms. Feel free to call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the problem alarm in hand if this doesn't help.

User questions & answers

Question: The description states "filtrete micro allergen defense filter, mpr 1000..." but the picture shows mpr 1550....which one are you buying
Answer: What size filter are you looking for? This listing has 3 choices - both of the choices that have a description of mpr 1550 are actually called allergen reduction filters & clearly state that they are mpr 1550. I use one of these sizes & always get the 1550. If you need 16X25X4 it's called allergen defense filter mpr 1000. I couldn't find any other statement in the description that listed the mpr - so to me it's unclear. You might want to contact amazon customer support to verify the mpr, but also, the product can be returned if it's not what you were looking for.
Question: What are the dimensions of the filters? The product image shows 4" deep (20x25x4), but the option is only 1" deep (20x25x
Answer: The one I purchased was 20x25x4. If you only have option for 1 inch thick, then it sounds like they are out of the 4 inch version.
Question: Never had an air conditioner or furnace so I have a rather silly question. How can I tell when the filter needs changing - dirty on the backside
Answer: When it gets dirty on the air intake side. Don't wait for it to get caked with dust as this will cut down on air flow and make your furnace/air conditioner work harder to reach your desired temperature. Filter vendors often recommend changing 4 times per year, but your mileage may vary depending on how much you heat and cool and the cleanliness of the air being moved. I change about 3 times per year, but I could go to twice. Do you change your car filter? How dirty does that get? Be sure the actual size of the filter is correct for your blower. Filtrete nominal sizes and actual sizes differ. I got stuck with 4 filters I can not use. I bought the size 16x25x4, but the end of the filter has the actual size: 16 x 24 1/2 x 4 1/2. the 4 1/2" dimension is too large to fit.
Question: what is the Merv Rating and how do you convert 1550 MPR to a Merv rating
Answer: While I am not sure the Filtrete Allergen Reduction Filter is exactly the same as the Filtrete filter shown in the following commercial website, the table shows a MERV of 11 for a MPR of 1500. All the products seem to be 1" rather than 4." I don't know if that affects the MERV. http://www.iallergy.com/filtrete-air-filter-comparison.phpThe bottom of this commercial website page also describes the relationship of MERV, MPR, and FPR ratings for AC and furnace filters:http://www.bestfilters.com/AC-Furnace-Filters_c_605.htmlBased on my reading of the table, a MERV of 11 seems consistent with MPR of 1550.

User questions & answers

Question: i recently got these mpr1000 filters now i hear near the air vents like im guessing dust move around not sure if its normal
Answer: Due to the design of it, the lock bar most likely won't snap in place if anything is placed between the filter and the case. Some saw dust is normal. It's a design flaw unfortunately. Honestly haven't had any running issues from the way it is set up.
Question: Does this filter contain fiber glass
Answer: Cold tap water. Don't use hot water in your humidifier. Some people use distilled water, but that's an expensive proposition if you're running the humidifier all day or all night long.
Question: are these filters a true 16x20? I have run across some that are fifteen and three quartes by 19 and three quarters and they will not stay seated an
Answer: Hach 2745250 Total Hardness Test Strips, 0-425 mg/L https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007QQZL0U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pQWeEbGMRBX2J
Question: Does this filter have wire reinforcement on the front and the back
Answer: I don't know what the demoralization cartridge 7531 is. My Boneco humidifier is an older one and the filter I used for it had to be replaced every month of so. This filter costs less and lasts much longer - mine was good for the entire winter.

User questions & answers

Question: Why do mine come out black after a relatively short amount of time
Answer: Super durable. We have not had this bag for terribly long...I think since the end of March 2015 but it has held up as a school bag well since that date and I expect it to continue to do so for quite some time. It is very well made and has a solid zipper. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Question: The product description lists 2 sizes- 14x24x1 in large font and 14x14x1 in small font. Which size will I receive? What are the actual dimensions
Answer: Yes it should be able to hold your laptop but there is no designated pocket for it.
Question: Are these UV resistant
Answer: Yes it does. I can carry my 17inch Toshiba along with my 15 inch and 17inch macaroons. Plus external hard drives and power cords.
Question: What is the merv rating
Answer: Yes! I have used this for my carry-on for years and it fits every time. I usually have books, sneakers, clothes, and other things packed in it. Depending on how stuffed it is, it will fit under the seat and absolutely in the overhead bin. Love it!

User questions & answers

Question: Where are they made
Answer: When I had one of these I had to wash it with 409 and let it sit for about five minutes and then hit it with a shower head for pressure and it always came out beautifully
Question: These came in an amazon box with no wrapping of any kind. Wouldn’t it be bad for a filter to not be protected from particles
Answer: I have 2 5T units in house that uses this filter and after changing many various Mfr filters which all seemed to work comparably well and about the same in last 21+ years, never once did I ever think about counting pleats. All I ever counted was the price! Did I miss something?? Bill
Question: Do these merv 11 filters have enough air flow for any furnace
Answer: Yep
Question: Does it a Space Guard
Answer: The N95 masks are the equivalent to a MERV 16. Our MERV 13 filters are made with a 100% synthetic filter media with a wire backing glued in a cardboard frame. There are no harmful materials in the MERV 13 media itself. If you use the media it will not filter as small of a partical as the N95 but it help filter out 1.0–0.3 μm particle size. These filters can filter bacteria, droplet nuclei (sneeze), cooking oil, most smoke and insecticide dust, most face powder, and most paint pigments.

User questions & answers

Question: My entire home is equipped with BRK smoke detector (4120 B) and Carbon Monox Det (CO50120B). They need replacing. Will new BRK fit extant casings
Answer: Yes all the wired Nest Protect needs is the 120V hot (black) and neutral (white) wires in the electrical box connected to the plug-in pigtail that comes with the Protect. If your house has multiple detectors now you will usually also find a red wire in the electrical box that interconnects your old detectors so that if one goes off they all sound. That wire is no longer needed with the Protect so you just cap it with a wire nut.
Question: can these be connected together so if one is set off they all go off
Answer: Yes, but only if you are connected to the internet and then only for the last ten days, and only if the level rises above the heads up level (which is 70ppm and rising for around an hour or a shorter period if over 150ppm). To counter what someone else's answer was - Carbon monoxide does NOT sink. It is in fact lighter than air (CO has an atomic weight of 28 versus Nitrogen (N2) which is also 28 - but marginally heavier (by 0.003 amu due to heavier isotopes), Oxygen (O2) which is 32 and Argon which is 40. However the weight is similar enough in the air in your house that it tends to distribute as a fluid and is measurable anywhere in a room; it really depends upon how air moves through the space. The levels tend to fluctuate rapidly as CO distributes and any outside air mixes in and additional CO is added. Overall, there is no perfect way to measure the CO levels with one device in one place, but this is as good as most people need.
Question: How does the Alarm Latch feature "easily identify initiating alarm"? This is major problem with false alarms on my existing Kidde/Firex dual alarms
Answer: I just checked this for you. I unplugged my wifi router and started a test. All detectors alarmed as expected. So, yes, the system works even without active wifi.
Question: Can a BRK Model 92120B smoke detector directly plug in and replace an old BRK Model 4120B smoke detector (without an adapter
Answer: I think very few here understand the question. National code requires interconnected smoke detectors as of 2004, there is an extra wire in the circuit and all smoke detectors are on that wire for 'signal'. When one alarms they should ALL alarm. If I am reading the answers correctly, NEST does not comply with the signal wire. However, it looks like it does set up its own wireless network to act like they are all interconnected. To be honest, after paying for the extra wire behind the wall, why would I want to by 6-8 nests at $100 each when the originals are 20-30 each? This way there is one smart point to notify if any detector is going off. Nests way 6-9 smoke detectors, 6-8 login, 6-8 ip address. Ugh, what a nightmare!

User questions & answers

Question: Why is there not an option for the size 14x30x
Answer: Take a look at filterbuy and see if you can find that size.
Question: My hvac system is 30 years old. I have an old magic chef one just wondering if this will be ok to use for it, we have a very musty smell in the house
Answer: A: If you haven't upgraded you system I would recommend starting at MERV 8 then going up or down depending on how your system responds. Unfortunately the manuals for the Magic Chef units are extinct. They've been purchased and merged into a handful of companies since the 80's. This link will provide a great resource about MERV ratings and what their best use is. I have horrible allergies so I use MERV 14 in one HVAC system. It's hospital quality. In our other house we use MERV 8 and it does well in our 10 year old unit. It catches a lot of dust and pet hair. It's a great middle ground. The higher the MERV rating the higher the cost, so experiment and see what works. United Filter : https://unitedfilter.com/merv-ratings
Question: We have a problem with not enough air conditioning flow in the upper level of the house. Would this filter make that worse
Answer: Two things can equalize upstairs and downstairs cooling. #1 If you don's have one, have a thermostatically controlled exhaust roof fan installed. They are the metal mushroom shaped things on roofs with fans inside, they exhaust the super-heated air out of the attic and make a huge difference in upstairs comfort b/c that blanket of 110 degree or more air is now at least closer to the actual outside temp. #2 Set your circulation fan to run all the time vs. turning off after every cooling cycle. Set "FAN" switch to ON vs. AUTO. If your source and return registers are working good then now the temperature of the house won't tend to "stratify" or get layered when the downstairs thermostat is happy but the truth is there's a large temp diff between floors b/c heat rises. Running the fan will help to keep cycling the whole house air and keep it mixed. Plus it gives the thermostat better knowledge of what's really going on. But, I can't stress enough on the roof fan.
Question: Im wondering how much flow this filter cuts back, i currently use the 2200 filters with no problem anyone had any experience yet
Answer: from what I have read the pressure drop of the 3M 2800 (merv 14, 97%) is .24 psi. the 2200 is I think .20 to .22 psi for the 3M filters.

Answer: Mine was all there not sure
Question: How does the Alarm Latch feature "easily identify initiating alarm"? This is major problem with false alarms on my existing Kidde/Firex dual alarms

Electrostatic Design Captures More Particles

The 3M Elite allergen reduction filter is made with both positively charged and negatively charged fibers that act like tiny magnets to attract air-polluting contaminants. Since particles in the air are either positively or negatively charged, they are attracted to and captured by the filter and kept out of your living space.

Electrostatic filters, including the 3M Elite allergen reduction filter, perform better than comparable non-electrostatic fiberglass and washable/reusable filters, because they attract and capture the small, allergy-aggravating microparticles that non-electrostatic filters can't.

Improves Indoor Air Quality

With indoor air a surprising two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, the 3M Elite allergen reduction filter can make a difference in maintaining a healthier home environment by cleaning air with each pass through the filter.

The 3M Elite allergen reduction filter features a 2200 Microparticle Performance Rating (MPR), which means it is able to capture large and small particles from the air, including household dust, pollen, dust-mite debris, mold spores, pet dander, smoke, smog, bacteria, particles that can carry viruses, and particles that carry odors. This high-performance filter meets the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest Health House Program's indoor air quality guidelines.

Improves Efficiency

This high-performance allergen-reduction filter also keeps your heating and air conditioning equipment working efficiently by removing dirt and reducing strain on the motor. It is recommended that you change the filter every three months. However, the effectiveness and life of the filter can vary and depend on the individual conditions in your home.

Product description

The 120V AC Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup is designed to install faster; perform better; and be even smarter than before. Ionization sensor. These improvements help reduce nuisance alarms and save you time and money. Uses 9V batteryfor Battery Back up.

  • 120V AC with battery backup
  • Side load battery drawer
  • Tamper resistant locking pins - Universal mounting bracket
  • Test/silence button
  • Latching alarm indication

User questions & answers

Question: If one alarm goes off do all of them go off at the same time
Answer: My installation has nine (9) 9120B alarms and they all sound once one goes off. Great feature. In-wall wiring interconnects all the alarms; I don't know what options there are for retrofitting a house without the in-wall wiring. The manufacturer recommends weekly testing where you press the self-test button on each alarm for a few seconds. That is a good way to validate that they all go off when you test each one. Best to do this when no one else is in the house; it gets pretty loud.
Question: Is the 9120b the same as the 4120b and the same bracket. Mine plugs oin to the house electric system
Answer: My 4120b plug into the house elec.
Question: What is the date of manufacture
Answer: The units I received were manufactured in March of 2014, so they were only 3 months old in the box when I installed them. Also, unlike the previous detectors I replaced, there was no text indicating they need to be replaced after ten years use. Materials on the new model must have improved.
Question: Will the 9120b fit the housing and wiring of prior installed sc9120b (smoke and carbon monoxide detector)? do not need the co detector anymore
Answer: they do not fit the existing brackets. you have to put up new brackets...BUT the screw holes are the same so the new ones can be screwed in on the same spot!
