12 best sump pump switch
A sump pump switch is a crucial component of a sump pump system used to prevent flooding and water damage in basements or low-lying areas. It plays a vital role in activating the pump when water levels rise and deactivating it when the water is pumped out, helping maintain a dry and safe environment. Here are some key points about sump pump switches:
Types of Sump Pump Switches:
Float Switch: This is the most common type of sump pump switch. It consists of a buoyant float that rises with the water level. When the water level reaches a certain point, the float activates a switch, turning the pump on.As the water is pumped out, the float drops, deactivating the pump.
Electronic Switch: Some sump pumps use electronic sensors to detect water levels. These sensors can be more sensitive and reliable than float switches but may be more expensive.
Pressure Switch: Pressure switches activate the pump based on water pressure changes. When water enters the sump pit, it increases pressure, triggering the switch to turn the pump on. When the water is pumped out, pressure decreases, and the switch turns the pump off.
Importance of Proper Switch Operation: A reliable sump pump switch is crucial for the effective operation of the sump pump system. If the switch fails to activate or deactivate the pump correctly, it can lead to flooding or unnecessary pump cycling, potentially damaging the pump and increasing energy consumption.
Maintenance: Sump pump switches, particularly float switches, can be prone to debris or obstructions. Regular maintenance is essential to ensure that the switch remains unobstructed and functions correctly.
Backup Systems: Some sump pump systems include a backup switch or secondary pump with its own switch. This provides extra protection in case the primary switch or pump fails, ensuring that the basement stays dry.
Installation: Proper installation of the sump pump switch is critical. It should be positioned at the right height in the sump pit to activate the pump at the desired water level. Follow manufacturer guidelines and local building codes for installation.
Testing: It's advisable to test the sump pump switch periodically to make sure it is functioning correctly. You can do this by pouring water into the sump pit and observing the switch's operation.
Replacement: Over time, sump pump switches may wear out or become less reliable. If you notice any issues with the switch's operation, it's essential to replace it promptly to maintain the effectiveness of your sump pump system.
In summary, a sump pump switch is a critical component of a sump pump system, ensuring that the pump activates and deactivates at the appropriate times to prevent flooding and protect your property from water damage. Proper installation, maintenance, and occasional testing are key to ensuring the switch's reliability and the overall effectiveness of your sump pump system.

User questions & answers
Question: | is the whole thing water proof |
Answer: | Yes it can replace the vacuum line; but please make sure your original vacuum line has the same Internal Diameter. We have 2 3 4 6 8 10 12 14 16mm ID size only options. For connectors, better to use the joiner with nipple. Our vacuum hose is made of flexible silicone; but still able to withstand some degree of bending; but will not bend to extreme 90deg. |
Question: | What is the travel range for the on/off |
Answer: | This is a small heat exchanger , designed to work at small pressures , Your transmission fluid pressures are relatively low . It is designed to take the heat , that is produced by the average transmission . You must make it work by small modifications to attach the heat exchanger to your vehicle . I installed my unit on a 2000 Honda CRV . I had over hauled the Transmission myself in order to save money . I am 72 years old, so I am slow compared to a real automotive Transmission Technician . But if I have the tools , and equipment ,, I will attempt many things . The Transmission is working fine after I overhauled it, putting in lots of new components . The Tranny Cooler, is simply and insurance policy to keep it cool . Many Auto manufacturers have failed to provide adequate methods to always keep their Transmission cool . But they are learning a lesson . |
Question: | What is the country of manufacture |
Answer: | It does fit on a 2012 Rogue works great ! Can go on long trips without having to worry about trans getting hot and making that whining sound. |
Question: | What is the range of adjustment? I have a shallow sump. How tall is the unit |
Answer: | Let me start by saying I've been a mechanic for close to 20yrs. This cooler being a "universal type" will fit just about anything you want to put it on. It would fit, and help a Silverado, or any make/model that has an existing trans cooler. The fitting it comes with are hose barb type (meant for a rubber line to slip over it with a hose clamp) and the lines on your Silverado should be hard plastic if I remember correctly. You would need to get a couple adapters to convert to a rubber hose fitting from your setup. These use the plastic clips that go through the current radiator that place it in front of your radiator, so you'd want to make sure your cooling system is up to par if you plan on heavy towing or hauling. I used mine on a 96 Land Cruiser, and it's being used for the power steering (37" tires like to destroy the power steering system) to keep the fluid from boiling over or "cavitating". For my application it works awesome, to help cool your trans. it should work great as well. For my application it added roughly a half quart to the overall fluid capacity, helping a lot with a 2.5qt system. If you are looking for a specific one for towing, this will work fine. Many people are going to the aluminum barrel type with the fins (looks like a heat-sink) on the exterior and getting good results. I went this route because it's significantly less expensive and has more cooling area, and holds more fluid. A comparable finned aluminum unit was getting well over $200 for similar added capacity, so that was a no-brainer for me. Yes, it will fit. You'll need adapters to go from your hard lines to hose (probably $5 at your local hardware or plumbing store), but otherwise it works well. This is my honest advice from experience. |

The HydroCheck HC6000v2 Hi-Low Pump Controller is a universal, electronic dual-float switch that works with all types of sump pumps and utility pumps. Unlike other dual-float switches that run each cycle for a fixed amount of time, the HC6000v2’s two sensors make it highly adjustable, giving the user complete control of where the pump turns on and turns off—Anywhere from a 1/2 inch to 12 feet! In certain utility pump applications, this precise control feature can allow for the turn on level to be set as low as 1/2” of water, and the turn off level as low as 1/4” of water. When used with a sump pump, the user can decrease how often the pump turns on/off by adjusting the sensors in order to achieve the longest run-time for the pump. This helps to save energy and maximize the pump’s service life. No moving parts ensure reliability. Sensors work in water with debris or high mineral content (Special installation required) and do not need cleaning. Heavy-duty switch that is rated for ¾ HP, 14 amps. Versatile product that can be used in hydroponics, aquariums, rain harvesting, etc. A good ground reference is required for proper operation. The built-in anti-airlock feature will make 2 attempts to clear an air lock by shutting the pump off briefly if the sensor is still detecting water after the pump has run for 20 seconds. How It Works: The setting of the sensors determine when the control module turns the pump on, and when it turns it off. Following the sequence below, the operation is as follows: 1. When the water is below both sensors, the pump is off. 2. The pump is off when the water is above the Black Sensor (Low Sensor), but hasn't reached the Red Sensor (High Sensor). 3. When the water reaches the Red Sensor (High Sensor), the pump is turned on. 4. The pump stays on while the water is between the sensors. 5. The pump is turned off. *Special installation required for high-mineral content water.
- [COMPLETE CONTROL OF SUMP PUMP CYCLE TIME]: The dual-sensor design maximizes the pump’s performance by allowing it to run longer, more efficient cycles with up to 12’ of turn on/turn off range. Fewer cycles = Less wear and tear on the pump and decreased energy consumption that can lower your electric bill!
- [100% COMPATIBLE WITH ALL SUMP PUMP APPLICATIONS]: Versatile and easy to install, the HC6000v2 works with all sump pump systems and can replace any existing float switch. Ideal for narrow or crowded pits!
- [BUILT-IN ALARMS SOUND WHEN A PROBLEM OCCURS]: Achieve the ultimate peace of mind with built-in alarms that will sound to alert you to problems such as high water, blocked discharge pipe, weak ground, pump failure, and more! All alarms can be individually muted or silenced using the Smart Button.
- [NO CLEANING* & NO MOVING PARTS]: Sensors are unaffected by minerals or debris in the water when installed with the HydroCheck Sensor Installation Kit. The electronic control module provides the ultimate reliability by eliminating moving parts that can seize up or fail.
- [5 YEAR WARRANTY]: Manufactured in the USA and backed by an exceptional customer support team that is available to answer all of your product and installation questions! Tested to more than 1 million cycles, this tried-and-true technology has been trusted by industry professionals for more than 20 years!
User questions & answers
Question: | I have a zoeller 1/2 hp with 1 1/2" discharge the HC 6000 will be ok sometimes pump can run every 10 seconds |
Answer: | I would assume so, but it shouldn't matter as the mechanical part is above the float switch and never is submerged in the water. |
Question: | Has anyone had this for any length of time and has it held up without cleaning? Know of any better choices |
Answer: | When you mount it you can put it at the height that you need I believe the travel range is about three inches |
Question: | Has anyone used the installation instructions if water softener discharges into sump pump pit? Instructions don't make much sense if you did |
Answer: | I believe it was China |
Question: | I am testing in a plastic bucket, unit turns on while both probes are touching water but turns off when I lift one out of water and unit is beeping |
Answer: | The overall dimension is approximately 10 1/2 inches. I have my float adjusted to kick in at 6 1/2 inches deep, and then turn off at 3 1/2 inches deep. 3 1/2 inches is as low as the pump float will allow it to go. You can adjust the float so it turns on sooner than 6 1/2” but that’s how I have mine set. Hope that helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What hp pump is it rated for? i have a 1/3 hp pump but i don't know if this ill work for my system |
Answer: | The BWC1 float controller is rated for 12 amps. I'm sure it will run a 1/3 HP pump |
Question: | If I use this on the ground at what water level would it activate |
Answer: | Several inches, but that shouldn't be the point. You're likely to suck air through eddies and burn your pump up if you do that regularly. Submersible sump pumps are designed to be submerged for cooling and fluid dynamic needs. In my further opinion a mildly wet floor merits a reasonably large dehumidifier and/or a French drain perhaps. Problems deeper than that may merit knocking out some concrete floor with a cheesy little air hammer or better, working in some cheap 3/8 inch rebar (there's youtube videos on that), and if the water wont subside, casting some hydraulic cement (the type that sets while submerged) in order to form a sump. Again this is all just one man's opinion. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Mine keeps getting stuck On. The float drops, but the sump continues to run. Any ideas? It is pretty clean |
Answer: | Mine is doing the same thing now... once on, the pump will not shut off. If I remove power from the control unit then reapply power, the pump will stay off. But as soon as the water level rises to trigger the float switches, the control unit will not turn off the pump when the water level drops. I believe it is the electronics that are in the control unit that are the problem. I can hear the little micro-switches in the float sensor toggle when I move the upper and lower floats, but the control unit doesn't respond when the float levels indicate water level is low. The power has to be cycled on the control unit to turn off the pump. |
Question: | Can the additional 10 seconds run time be extended, such as 20 seconds and how |
Answer: | If you know how to solder you can. It's a standard 555 timer circuit. Resister R4 is a 200k ohm. Replace it with a 400k and you'll get about 20 sec. It's linear so for example if you want 30 sec you'd do 600k. I did mine with the existing 200k and in series added a 200k potentiometer so I get a variable 10-20 sec delay. So far so good. |

Best Way to Activate a Pump
It only takes a few inches of water to destroy the furnace, hot water heater, and furnishings in your basement so it’s crucial to keep this space dry. The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch is the ultimate in protection and is designed to ensure that your pump will activate when needed.
If One Is Good, Two Is Better
The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch (Model BWC1) includes two floats for added protection; the second float is a fail-safe that will activate your sump pump if needed.
So Good It Protects Itself
The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch has a protective cage to keep debris and wires from interfering with movement of the float. It has a curved and vented bottom that self-washes to prevent buildup, and the solid top protects the floats.
Works with Most Brands
If the switch fails on your existing sump pump of a different brand, replace it with the most reliable switch available. Remove your faulty switch and install The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch (Model BWC1).
DIY Installation
The Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch (Model BWC1) installs easily with just a few twists of a screwdriver using the included stainless steel hose clamp. The switch fits on both 1-½" and 1-¼" pipes.
Adjustable Activation Point
The BWC1 is adjustable to any height, so you can customize it to fit your pit. Since The Basement Watchdog Dual Float Switch is not mounted to the pump, simply place the switch at your desired ‘turn on’ height and tighten the included hose clamp to the discharge pipe.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it matter if the float switch is on top of the pump or beside the pump for the pump to work properly |
Answer: | Either way works. My float died after a few months. I had to transfer one off an old pump. |
Question: | how high will it pump water |
Answer: | My pump sits about 2 feet below the concrete in the basement, horizontal for 3 feet and up 9 ft. It is pretty powerful and should eject water pretty high, however you should install a backflow close to the pump so what doesn't get ejected doesn't fall back to the pump, and pump tries to eject in an endless cycle. |
Question: | What is the hottest temp water is this pump rated for |
Answer: | Hi there,The pump is tater for water temps up to 120 degrees. Thanks |
Question: | Can I remove the float switch as I need to use this in a bucket with holes drilled to prevent leaves to drain a pool |
Answer: | Just to be clear, I have read more than once in the responses about cutting the tethered float or removing it to use another switch or use the pump as just a utility pump without a switch. There are 2 separate plugs, one to the pump and one to the switch. The switch is not hard wired to the pump and can be removed or not used by not plugging it in. Piggyback refers to plugging the pump and switch together (they are made to plug together then plug into your receptacle) to use in a sump pit to keep water cycled out so as not to burn out the pump. If you want another switch there are many choices like a vertical float switch for limited space in the sump pit, plugs and piggybacks the same way it just positions the switch in a more narrow configuration for a smaller space. |

Question: | I will not use a sump pit. Clarification: Does this pump require 3 1/2" of pooling water to trip on and off |
Answer: | If you're not using a sump pit, don't use a sump pump. Get something else. |
Question: | Do all units have two separate cords for the pump motor and float switch? I just received one, and the pump and float are wired separately |
Answer: | They have separate cords however the pump cord has a receptacle you plug the float cord into joining the two. So you only have one plug to plug into your outlet. |
Question: | What is the size of the outlet on this pump |
Answer: | It is a 1/12inch outlet |
Question: | Should I install a check valve with this pump |
Answer: | It's a nice to have but not essential. Without a check valve, some water will return to the pool once the pump is stopped, but it doesn't really bother me. |

Product description
The Briidea Hi-Low Pump Controller is a universal, electronic dual-float switch that works with all types of sump pumps and utility pumps. Unlike other dual-float switches that run each cycle for a fixed amount of time, the Pump Controller's two sensors make it highly adjustable, giving the user complete control of where the pump turns on and turns off—Anywhere from a 1/2 inch to 12 feet!
Sensors work in water with debris or high mineral content (Special installation required, see Special Installation Instructions) and do not need cleaning.
Heavy-duty switch that is rated for 1HP, 16amps. Versatile product that can be used in hydroponics, aquariums, rain harvesting, etc. A good ground reference is required for proper operation.
How It Works
The setting of the sensors determine when the control module turns the pump on, and when it turns it off. Following the sequence below, the operation is as follows:
1. When the water is below both sensors, the pump is off.
2. The pump is off when the water is above the Low Sensor, but hasn't reached the High Sensor.
3. When the water reaches the High Sensor, the pump is turned on.
4. The pump stays on while the water is between the sensors.
5. The pump is turned off when the water drops below the Black Low Sensor.
