User questions & answers

Question: What's the PSI or max head (pumping vertical height) of this pump
Answer: A quick Google search of "Superior Pump 91250" yields the manufacturers specs. I do not see PSI listed but "Pumps will lift water up to 25' of vertical height" I belive answers your question...there is a chart on the "Performance" tab that shows 30 GPM at 0' lift and 2 GPM at 25' lift...with flow rates every 5' listed.http://superiorpump.com/products/utility/91250.html
Question: Does it have an automatic shut off
Answer: The pump does not have an automatic shut off. I added a float switch because I wanted it to pump out a sink that had a slow-running clogged drain where I had the washing machine. When the sink was mostly pumped out the float switch turned off the pump. It worked great for a couple years until I got around to dealing with snaking the drain which didn't have an easy clean-out. This is a good pump, since the sink drain got taken care of, we've been using the pump to pump koi pond water over a 5' fence to our neighbor's garden using about 150' of garden hose. The pump runs continuously for 5+ hours without issues in this process.
Question: Will clothes washer hoses fit on this pump
Answer: The pump itself fits a garden hose nicely. You can buy the attachment package listed next to it for the converter piece. It only came to around $8.00. It also comes with a larger hose. I didn't need it for my spa but if you need to empty a washer or bigger pool it seems like it would come in handy. Hope that helps. Good luck. :-)
Question: Can this be user to flush a tankless heater with vinigar
Answer: I bought the pump for this very reason. I'm not sure if it is rated to handle vinegar, but at the price I figured I'd try it and see. I have two tankless water heaters, and I wanted a pump that could clean out both at the same time and this pump certainly does the job. I have a hose that runs from the pump, into a splitter. From the splitter I have two hoses going to each water heater (one hose per water heater). Even pushing water through two hoses, it still has a strong flow, with each hose pushing about the same flow as the water hose faucet outside your house opened wide open (guestimate). The splitter I have allows me to adjust the flow rate by closing off some valves if it is too strong. For just one water heater, i would think this pump is too strong (as it REALLY moves water), but I'm not a plumber so I couldn't say for sure. If I were to do it again, I think I would have purchased the 1/4 HP pump, or even the 1/5HP for cleaning out water heaters with vinegar. I cleaned out my water heater this week for the first time using this pump. I let it run for 2 hrs, and I noticed that it got warm (about the temp of a warm-to-hot bath). I'm not sure if that is normal, but thought I'd let you know.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this pump be hooked up to a battery backup
Answer: It pulls too much current for most battery backups, a generator will run it fine.
Question: how long is the power cord
Answer: Just received my Wayne CDU980E. I, too, was concerned with this question. Power cord measures about 90-inches (7.5-feet) from where it connects to the top of the sump motor (which is about 11-inches above the bottom of the pump). I can't find this marked on Wayne's literature for the CDU980E.
Question: When the pump is switched on by the floater, how long does it run
Answer: If there is merely water in the sump pit, you don't need this powerful a pump. This 3/4 HP pump is for handling major water flowing into the pit. When that happens in our cellar, the pump runs until it out-runs the flow of incoming water.-- sometimes for minutes sometimes for hours. We have 4 sump installations in 4 buildings. When the water table (level of the ground water in the outside ground) is high, three of these systems pump a lot of the time and pretty constantly. We have 2 pumps in each pit so if one fails we do not get flooded. Each Pump (if more than one in the system) needs to have a check valve/ back-flow preventer so it will force the other pumps to actually pump the water up and out and not allow an operating pump to to just pump back out through the other , (not then pumping) pump. The should also be placed at different levels so they don't necessariy go on at the same time, thus reserving one as a kind of back up. Of course, if there is really a lot of incoming water -- which we had when we first bought our house, it takes both pumps to handle the in flow and avoid flooding. NOw that we use the large diameter PVC piping, it works so much better that a single pump pof this size would probably be fine. It is best to pipe the pumps with real PVC pipe and in 1 1/2" or 2" size. This will increase the flow rate by around twice as much flow as the skinny (1 1/4") highresistance black curly-sided plastic pipe they often come with. Good luck and stay dry.
Question: when you say 'top suction' does this mean the pu,p must be totally submerged
Answer: The pump draws water from the "LOWER" part of the pump a few inches off the floor. It does not have to be completely submerged to draw water. When the bulb float rises enough to turn on the float switch it sucks water. It turns on before the water reaches the top of the pump. I use this one and I know. Hope this helps someone.

THE BASEMENT WATCHDOG Model BWC1 Universal Replacement Sump Pump Float Switch

THE BASEMENT WATCHDOG

Based on 619 reviews Check latest price
  • Compatible with most sump pumps
  • Large floats detect 1/4 in. water level rises, automatically activating the sump pump
  • Second float provides additional protection to ensure automatic pump activation
  • Protective float switch cage helps keep debris and wires from interfering with float movement; vented, curved bottom reduces debris build-up under the float
  • Allows the sump pump to run for an additional 10 seconds to drain excess water from the sump pit

User questions & answers

Question: What hp pump is it rated for? i have a 1/3 hp pump but i don't know if this ill work for my system
Answer: The BWC1 float controller is rated for 12 amps. I'm sure it will run a 1/3 HP pump
Question: If I use this on the ground at what water level would it activate
Answer: Several inches, but that shouldn't be the point. You're likely to suck air through eddies and burn your pump up if you do that regularly. Submersible sump pumps are designed to be submerged for cooling and fluid dynamic needs. In my further opinion a mildly wet floor merits a reasonably large dehumidifier and/or a French drain perhaps. Problems deeper than that may merit knocking out some concrete floor with a cheesy little air hammer or better, working in some cheap 3/8 inch rebar (there's youtube videos on that), and if the water wont subside, casting some hydraulic cement (the type that sets while submerged) in order to form a sump. Again this is all just one man's opinion. Hope this helps.
Question: Mine keeps getting stuck On. The float drops, but the sump continues to run. Any ideas? It is pretty clean
Answer: Mine is doing the same thing now... once on, the pump will not shut off. If I remove power from the control unit then reapply power, the pump will stay off. But as soon as the water level rises to trigger the float switches, the control unit will not turn off the pump when the water level drops. I believe it is the electronics that are in the control unit that are the problem. I can hear the little micro-switches in the float sensor toggle when I move the upper and lower floats, but the control unit doesn't respond when the float levels indicate water level is low. The power has to be cycled on the control unit to turn off the pump.
Question: Can the additional 10 seconds run time be extended, such as 20 seconds and how
Answer: If you know how to solder you can. It's a standard 555 timer circuit. Resister R4 is a 200k ohm. Replace it with a 400k and you'll get about 20 sec. It's linear so for example if you want 30 sec you'd do 600k. I did mine with the existing 200k and in series added a 200k potentiometer so I get a variable 10-20 sec delay. So far so good.

Best Way to Activate a Pump

It only takes a few inches of water to destroy the furnace, hot water heater, and furnishings in your basement so it’s crucial to keep this space dry. The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch is the ultimate in protection and is designed to ensure that your pump will activate when needed.

If One Is Good, Two Is Better

The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch (Model BWC1) includes two floats for added protection; the second float is a fail-safe that will activate your sump pump if needed.

So Good It Protects Itself

The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch has a protective cage to keep debris and wires from interfering with movement of the float. It has a curved and vented bottom that self-washes to prevent buildup, and the solid top protects the floats.

Works with Most Brands

If the switch fails on your existing sump pump of a different brand, replace it with the most reliable switch available. Remove your faulty switch and install The Basement Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch (Model BWC1).

DIY Installation

The Watchdog Universal Dual Float Switch (Model BWC1) installs easily with just a few twists of a screwdriver using the included stainless steel hose clamp. The switch fits on both 1-½" and 1-¼" pipes.

Adjustable Activation Point

The BWC1 is adjustable to any height, so you can customize it to fit your pit. Since The Basement Watchdog Dual Float Switch is not mounted to the pump, simply place the switch at your desired ‘turn on’ height and tighten the included hose clamp to the discharge pipe.

Question: Do all units have two separate cords for the pump motor and float switch? I just received one, and the pump and float are wired separately
Answer: They have separate cords however the pump cord has a receptacle you plug the float cord into joining the two. So you only have one plug to plug into your outlet.
Question: What is the size of the outlet on this pump
Answer: It is a 1/12inch outlet
Question: Should I install a check valve with this pump
Answer: It's a nice to have but not essential. Without a check valve, some water will return to the pool once the pump is stopped, but it doesn't really bother me.

Answer: This is a small heat exchanger , designed to work at small pressures , Your transmission fluid pressures are relatively low . It is designed to take the heat , that is produced by the average transmission . You must make it work by small modifications to attach the heat exchanger to your vehicle . I installed my unit on a 2000 Honda CRV . I had over hauled the Transmission myself in order to save money . I am 72 years old, so I am slow compared to a real automotive Transmission Technician . But if I have the tools , and equipment ,, I will attempt many things . The Transmission is working fine after I overhauled it, putting in lots of new components . The Tranny Cooler, is simply and insurance policy to keep it cool . Many Auto manufacturers have failed to provide adequate methods to always keep their Transmission cool . But they are learning a lesson .
Question: What is the country of manufacture
Answer: It does fit on a 2012 Rogue works great ! Can go on long trips without having to worry about trans getting hot and making that whining sound.
Question: What is the range of adjustment? I have a shallow sump. How tall is the unit
Answer: Let me start by saying I've been a mechanic for close to 20yrs. This cooler being a "universal type" will fit just about anything you want to put it on. It would fit, and help a Silverado, or any make/model that has an existing trans cooler. The fitting it comes with are hose barb type (meant for a rubber line to slip over it with a hose clamp) and the lines on your Silverado should be hard plastic if I remember correctly. You would need to get a couple adapters to convert to a rubber hose fitting from your setup. These use the plastic clips that go through the current radiator that place it in front of your radiator, so you'd want to make sure your cooling system is up to par if you plan on heavy towing or hauling. I used mine on a 96 Land Cruiser, and it's being used for the power steering (37" tires like to destroy the power steering system) to keep the fluid from boiling over or "cavitating". For my application it works awesome, to help cool your trans. it should work great as well. For my application it added roughly a half quart to the overall fluid capacity, helping a lot with a 2.5qt system. If you are looking for a specific one for towing, this will work fine. Many people are going to the aluminum barrel type with the fins (looks like a heat-sink) on the exterior and getting good results. I went this route because it's significantly less expensive and has more cooling area, and holds more fluid. A comparable finned aluminum unit was getting well over $200 for similar added capacity, so that was a no-brainer for me. Yes, it will fit. You'll need adapters to go from your hard lines to hose (probably $5 at your local hardware or plumbing store), but otherwise it works well. This is my honest advice from experience.

User questions & answers

Question: How high and how far will it pump
Answer: The specifications state the following pumping rates, in GPH, for the following total lift: 2280 @ 5 ft, 1620 @ 10 ft, 660 @ 15 ft, and no flow at 18 ft I would think distance is not much of an issue in a residential application as the discharge should go up more or less vertically and then drain down per code requirements as with any other drain pipe installation. As a follow up to my install, lift required is about 6 ft and the unit has worked exactly as expected and I would definitely recommend the unit.
Question: Why does my wet bar pump under the sink does not stop running
Answer: I think you need a check valve installed. It allows the water to pump out, but prevents backflow back into the basin causing your pump to cycle on and off.
Question: What is the noise level
Answer: Medium noise level.
Question: Is this the 2925B (Discontinued Model) Or the 2925B-02 (Current Model)? If the 2925B, What is the GPM rating at 10 ft of head
Answer: The 2952B has a manufacturer rating of 1620 GPH at a 10 foot head. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: What are the options for letting water drain into the pit if my basement floods
Answer: It would depend on the level of water in your basement. The dome sits several inches above the floor so if the water level is above that then you could open one of the multiple ports in the dome and let the water drain into it- assuming then that your sump pump could push the water out. The dome worked well for me. It reduced my radon level in my home dramatically.
Question: Has anyone tested for radon after install & have significant difference
Answer: I tested before and after with great results. My radon levels in my house dropped from 18 to 1.5. The key is to get a really good seal from the mounting lip of this unit to the floor. This can be tricky because the floor around most sump pump holes is not flat. I had to craft a flat surface ring using PVC lumber which I then screwed and silicone caulked to the floor to fully seal (and then mounted this to the PVC ring that I made). I used a Tjernland Radon Vac Side Wall Radon Mitigation System for the fan unit - which worked great as well.
Question: What adaptor is needed for 4 inch PVC pipe schedule 40 or is it included
Answer: It has a 3" threaded adapter, you would need to either go from 3 to 4" or drill a bigger hole and seal the 4" pipe to the lid.
Question: I have a pit dia is 19inch and dirt floor how do I make a tight seal
Answer: If you don't have a concrete surround for your pit, you would have to build one as a first step. Simply excavate some of the dirt around the pit, build forms to create a floor area larger than the cover, and pour some concrete to create a flat floor area around the pit.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this pump be used solely as a backup
Answer: Yes
Question: How wide the pit has to be for this
Answer: The measurements for this system are 8-3/4"L x 10 3/4"W x 17-3/4"H. Its very compact and should fit in most sump basins. For further information please contact our service team at 800-991-0466 option 3.
Question: can a sealed AGM battery be used with the basement watchdog backup
Answer: This DFK961 model system will work with a AGM/Maintenance free type battery. I would suggest making sure it has at least 75 Amp hours or higher. Be sure to connect the fluid sensor probe to the + (positive) post on the battery to disable the low fluid alarm. For further information I would suggest calling our service team at 800-991-0466 option 3.
Question: Does this kit come with the battery housing? I know that you have to purchase the battery & acid separate, but wondering what else I have to buy
Answer: No, this kit doesn't come with the battery housing (assuming you mean a 'box' to house the battery), but you don't need to buy anything else. For clarity you need this kit, and I can attest to how good and effective it is, well-constructed and very reliable, you then need the battery and the acid. Beware of a few things; the acid is not quite as life and death as it makes out, just take your time. Also the import duty is hefty for both the pump and the battery, but overall well worth the money and peace of mind. Finally don't pick the pump up by the floatation device, it is very tempting, and when you get it you'll see what I mean but you need to use the handle. Hope you enjoy.

User questions & answers

Question: How do you ensure that if an internal pump valve or seal fails that it doesn't flood your basement with your own water line? Could be very quick
Answer: In case others look at this... there are several answers to this. If you are worried that a failure would cause the system to not pump out the pit then increase your test frequency. I test yearly. If you are worried then test weekly. In comparison to a regular pump this is less likely to fail because it is only used during tests. In comparison to a battery backup pump it's less likely to fail because there is no maintenance except for yearly testing (empty pit then poor in fresh water and run for a bit). If you are worried about a failure causing a leak then you need to install a fail valve. They sell them at the hardware store already installed onto stainless hoses for use with toilets, faucets, and refrigerator water supplies. If your basement is finished you need to have a water sensor alarm. There are also alarms for the pits water level. If they are too expensive you can make one from a watchdog sump pump switch and an AC siren. Just install the watchdog switch towards the top and plug the alarm into it.
Question: How much water psi is necessary for this to work
Answer: It's pressure and flow rate. Instructions want a 3/4" line, but it works fine for me with a 1/2" line and my higher home water pressure (over 60psi)
Question: Can someone please point to which specific backflow prevention devices can be used with this
Answer: You will need a ASSE 1013 device. Anyone telling you its a ASSE 1012 is wrong. I run across these all the time ( I do cross control inspections ). Be mindful that a 1013 device would need to be installed by a installer that is certified. These devices are registered and require testing every year. These are at least the requirements for Wisconsin - Id bite the bullet and do it right no matter which state your in to be honest.
Question: how much die their water bill increase when it was used
Answer: Like the electric pump it is backing up, this pump only operates when the water level raises to the point where the valve is actuated. The pump shuts off when the water level is reduced to the minimum float height. We were without power for 2 days. Ours ran on and off about every 5 to 20 minutes during at least one day of that time. The bill was not much more than normal. Each case will be different depending on the rate at which the sump pit fills and requires pumping. Under normal dry to light rainy day conditions, our pump doesn't normally run at all. I don't have to worry about battery maintenance, battery fumes, and the cost of running a continuous battery monitoring system. A battery charger/monitoring system must be on 24/7. It draws current continuously and you pay for it all the time.
