| Answer: | HI Cloe, To clean the pads from a cooler, you will need to scrape off scale the best you can using a wire brush or any other scraper. There are also chemicals that can be used in your cooler, such as, D-Scale (part #5242). These type of cleaners are an acid base cleaner that when used in a cooler will break down the scale in your unit. To prevent scale in a cooler is not as easy as just adding a product to the unit, you can never truly prevent scale build up. The best way to keep scale build up in a cooler is a purge pump (part# 1540). This pump dumps the water in your cooler every 8 hrs of operational use. There are products that can also be used in conjunction with the purge pump to help ensure all scale and minerals has been dumped. The scale eliminator pouch (part#52825) is placed in the water tank and it suspends the minerals and scale in the water until the pump can flush them out. So a basic routine of cleaning, coupled with removal of standing water, will keep your cooler running cleaner longer.Scott |

I have had the same 4 evaporative coolers for over 20 years and they are fully functional. |
