This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.
NOTE : 11Kw at 220 is equal to 13kw at 240. .Activation Flow : 0.3 GPM

User questions & answers
Question: | Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds |
Answer: | My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry. |
Question: | The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why |
Answer: | Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo |
Question: | My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion |
Answer: | Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met. |
Question: | what amp breaker is required |
Answer: | The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. |

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water
Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.
Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.
Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

Two showers emitting no more than 1.5 gpm each can be run simultaneously when incoming water temperature is above 70° F. Digital temperature control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1°. User questions & answers
Question: | How do know which size to buy? We will supply two bathrooms, dish washer, clothes washer. What size should I choose |
Answer: | I noted someone below stating they got the largest one and they can only run one water source at a time. My guess is they installed it wrong by not getting the electric hooked up right, or maybe the unit was just defective, or they live in Alaska. I went under size with an Eco 27 a few years ago because that’s all my electric panel could handle. We have zero issues in the summer. During winter months we can only run one shower at a time and have to slowly fill a tub (maybe 3/4 fill speed). To save as much money as I am on electric bill and have unlimited shower lengths (only 1 person at a time mid-Dec to mid-March) is totally worth it. On here today because I’m thinking of upping my panel size so was thinking of going with a larger one now. Regardless, CCRC’s experience with the largest unit not working is nothing like the experience I’ve had, and again I intentionally undersized mine for the house. The website has a clear chart to explain size you need based on number of water fixtures in your home and ground water temperature. |
Question: | Can this unit supply a 3,700 sq foot home with 3 1/2 baths |
Answer: | In the lower states it can, but in the northern states, multiple simultaneous users, it will be overloaded. If you can afford a 3,700 square foot home, then you can place a unit in each appropriate demand zone and be very glad you did. I love mine, live in KY, get great supply when the water is above 60 degrees, and then it slows the flow as the temperature drops. I have dishwasher, washing machine, garden tube, 2 showers, 3 sinks and 4 people. It is better than great in the summer, okay spring and fall, and we are conservative in the winter. |
Question: | What is the power consumption of this tank-less heater |
Answer: | The instantaneous power consumption while the hot water is running is quite high (up to 18kW or 27kW depending on which model you’re looking at on this page). However, when no hot water is being used, the power consumption is 0 (or a minuscule amount to run an LED light or something). The total power consumption over the course of several days or longer should be much lower than a tank heater but the short term power usage while the heater is making hot water will be much higher than a tank heater. It’s just that the unit sits idle most of the time while a tank heater will use power fairly frequently even when no hot water is needed as the water in the tank cools off over time and needs to be re-heater fairly constantly |
Question: | remote |
Answer: | This unit does not have the ability to have a remote temperature control. |

Question: | Is warranty void automatically when buying this way? The warranty appears to be void if not purchased by an "authorized dealer |
Answer: | MyPlumbingStuff is an "Authorized RINNAI Online Reseller". Warranty is valid when purchased through us. |
Question: | Will this item work with propane |
Answer: | you would have to change the jets -read the specs-you should be able to order it for either natural gas or propane |
Question: | I just purchased a new house that has two of these units and it takes about a minute for water to heat, can that be sped up |
Answer: | Hi Jay, Understand that you have cold water in your pipes that has to be pushed through to your open faucet and discharged before the hot water can get to you. Your Rinnai instantly starts heating your water when you open the faucet but there is all that cold water in the way. The closer your faucet is to the unit the sooner you get the hot water. If you are concerned about water waste, use the cold water to start scrubbing your sink or tub and then rinse with the hot water when it purges the cold sitting there. Your Rinnai saves you a ton of money by being on demand so be patient. Brush you teeth in the cold so no waste also. It is a great unit! John and Joanne |

Question: | We have a 500sq' apt. 1 kitchen sink, 1 lav sink and tub/shower. This tankless heats water to both sinks but nothing to the tub/sh. Help |
Answer: | Sinks have aerators to slow down the water where a tub doesn't. It sounds like one possibility is that your exceeding the GPM for this heater. Next possibility, double check an measure your actually getting at least 240v at the heater, I had an issue where my unit was only getting 235v an it was causing a similar issue where only one of the two heating elements was activating. I had it set to 125F but it was coming out 100F. It was warm and without a meter I would of thought it was working correctly until I tried filling a tub. It couldn't even get the water warm. I pulled my wires out an restripped an cut an screwed them in an it fixed my problem, now its measuring around 245v. Make sure there is no copper showing after screwing down your input wires. Now filling the tub I noticed after about 10-15 seconds the water gets too hot to touch. I set it to 135F. |
Question: | Do these tankless water heaters require an overflow line to the outside of the home or a pan like is required on normal water heaters |
Answer: | No tank, so, no overflow line required. It mounts on the wall. A pan is needed if required by building code in your city. |

User questions & answers
Question: | So where is the electrical cord on this water heater? I dont see any electrical connection on the picture showing |
Answer: | No. This is a simple self- regulating unit. If you want more flow, and more hot water, go to the next size up that this company makes. I put this unit in my parents kitchen, where it doesn't get as hot and cannot cause burns. I have the larger unit in my kitchen. It can get very hot before it balances out. |
Question: | What is amperage and how long does it normally take before it ships |
Answer: | Hello James. Great question. This unit heats water by 24°F at a flow rate of 1.0 GPM (and a proportionately lower temperature rise with a higher flow rate, and higher temp. rise with lower flow rate). All tankless water heaters operate on the same principle. Therefore, you should add 24°F to your incoming water temperature of 60°F. The answer is 84°F. This heater requires one 00 amp double pole breaker. For a complete explanation of how to choose a tankless water heater, check out our blog post at blog.gadgetsgo.com/how-to-buy-an-electric-tankless-water-heater GadgetsGo is one of the first Authorized Ecosmart Dealers, since 2009. Kind Regards, John M. GadgetsGo |
Question: | What is included with this purchase |
Answer: | Hello. According to the NEC and building code, electric tankless water heaters 15 amps or above do not include a cord with plug. They must be hard wired to a junction box or breaker box. Feel free to ask us any other questions. GadgetsGo is one of the first Authorized Ecosmart Dealers, since 2009. Kind Regards, John M. GadgetsGo |
Question: | Is there a 220V unit of this model available |
Answer: | Probably not but can work if you live in a southern environment and can supply 10 gauge wiring (or whatever they specify) to it. I use mine on an outdoor shower to my pool area and works well, but you have to control the temperature by lowering the water flow thru to it. The first time I tried it, I had to actually remove the low flow stuff in the shower head because it was too hot but after I removed it its comes out a nice 100+ temperature straight out of the hot end. Note, if it is really cool in florida, this does not work real well because this particular model just doesn't have the wattage to heat up the water really well.I bought this primarily to heat my water at my kitchen sink and dishwasher and it does a fantastic job doing so as opposed to waiting a minute plus for water from the other side of my house to come. As a bonus, I also added an adaptor and run it out to a shower faucet for the pool and it works well for that also, but if you are in a cooler place than florida, I would encourage you to get something stronger because you will need to heat a lot more than 1/2 a gallon a minute or a gallon a minute flow rate that this really heats up. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this directly replace a 40 gal tank heater with a 30A double pole breaker? What are power requrements |
Answer: | No it can't. RTEX-24 requires 3 sets of wire and ground, and it needs 3x 40amp breaker. That's a total of 120amps |
Question: | Can you use the 10/3 for one of the cicuits |
Answer: | No. It requires three legs of 8-2. |
Question: | Can the unit operate as a rtex-18 if i only hook up 2 of the elements? because i only need the 18 specs as of now but would like the option to upgrade |
Answer: | Actually you can do this but you must be careful on which circuits are connected. Rheem says the elements are activated from right to left as power is required. The right most element connection also provides power to the control so this must always be connected. If the very left element is left disconnected, you will only get 2/3 of the rated power on a 3 element unit. |
Question: | Why are 2 answers for the breaker requirements. Is it 3 double 40 or 3 double 60 amp |
Answer: | If the unit draws 40 amp. you need a 2 pole 40 amp breaker 2 #8 wires good for 40 amp and 1 # 10 wire for a bond. Now if the unit draws 60 amps you need 2 # 6's good for 65 amps. A 2 pole 60 amp breaker and 1 # 8 for a bond( ground wire). |
