User questions & answers

Question: How many amps is the pump
Answer: The pump runs at .22 Amps, and recommended supply current of 2.5 Amps. A standard 15 Amp wall socket is all that you need to plug it into. The .22 Amps the pump indicates maximum start up current, actual running current will be somewhat lower. Inrush current is always higher, when the motor has to start up, actual running current will be lower, example a 1 HP motor will have an inrush current of about 34 Amps, just until the motor reaching normal operating speed then it drops down to around 7.5 Amps, quite a bit lower, but the breaker needs to be able to handle the inrush currents.
Question: can i used without the sensor valve
Answer: Yes.As long as you have a return line running back to your water heater. You do not need a separate return line at every faucet. You need one return line. Follow your hot water pipe to the end (last branch takeoff), cut in a tee and run pex or copper. At the bottom of your tank style water heater there is a small, usually plastic valve. Remove that valve and screw in a 3/4" brass or stainless pipe nipple. Then install a tee inline with side outlet looking up and in the end of the tee put a brass drain valve to replace the crappy plastic one if applicable. The side connection on the tee you installed is where you will connect your return line you just ran. I did not notice if this pump had a built in check valve but if not you may want one to prevent water from flowing through both the hot water main and the hot water return to the faucet nearest the end. Water will follow the path of least resistance so the last branch on the main usually ends up being similar in distance to the water heater from either line. As a result water can back feed up the return line and will bring the cold water entering the tank with it. This is especially true when a second source of hot water is being used at the same time hence the need for a check valve.
Question: If the pump is on, and the water is hot, the sensor valve closes, right? Isn't the pump trying to push water against a totally closed line
Answer: This type of pump is designed to operate with zero flow, and it actually uses a little less electricity when it is not moving water. When the sensor valve closes, the pump does not move any water. When the sensor valve reopens, the pump moves water from the hot water line into the cold water line.
Question: So what this does is move the hot water through the pipes constantly, not just when you need it? Seems like an energy suck. Is it
Answer: If you run this all the time you will likely increase your water heating costs significantly as you are turning your pipes into a big radiant heater. You can use the built in timer to only have it come on at set periods, but this will only work if you have a very fixed schedule. I attacked this another way. I plugged the unit into a TP-Link HS110 Smart plug that is Alexa controlled. I can just say turn on hot water pump or turn off hot water pump when I want to control it. But that was not good enough for me. I found that if this pump ran for four minutes it would give me hot water at the distant shower that I wanted, so I did the following. I wrote a routine to turn on the pump, wait four minutes and then turn it off. While I can run this by voice, I bought the new Amazon Alexa Button, they are about $14 for a two pack. The button is battery operated and communicates to another Alexa device. Just before I take a shower I push the button and within four minutes the water will be hot without having to run water.

User questions & answers

Question: how hot does it get? what exactly is the thermostat's shut off temp
Answer: it will get as hot as you like it, but it won't boil. I use it to heat water for tile work and I love it, takes about 10 minutes to heat cold water to 100 degrees in a standard 5 gallon bucket but gets much hotter if you leave it in.No clue about a thermostat I wouldn't leave it unattended for an extended period of time.
Question: can it be used to heat a hot tub when you are not in it
Answer: If you have a "portable" home hot tub that plugs into a 110 socket, these bucket heaters are a godsend...A tub like that has about the same heating power as one of these immersion heaters....i.e. not much compared to a 220 v hot tub. I used two of these for years in a 4x6 tub, tripling the heat, which worked great as long as you can use 3 different circuits (15 amp) , one circuit per load. I attached screw eyes to the tub and a snap ring to each heater cord so they would hang at the proper depth. I will say it's a gut check to be IN the tub with these turned on, as you better trust your GFCIs to save your hide in case of a short, as these things are not NASA quality, to say the least.....At least they allowed me nice quiet tub time without the other folks crowding in!
Question: Wanting to use this in a 5 gallon bucket and need to keep my water at a constant simmer not a boil. Will this bring the water to a boil
Answer: I've left it in a 5 gallon bucket for 8 hours straight, it has never brought the water to a boil... it will keep it very hot though! I'm sot so sure about a simmer...
Question: I need to use an extension cord with this bucket heater? Any recommendations for the proper extension cord
Answer: The manufacturer of this heater makes a water-resistant extension cord for it. http://smile.amazon.com/Allied-Precision-LD16-25-Lockndry-Detachable/dp/B0030DC5O8

User questions & answers

Question: When we turn the hot water on is this valve suppose to click for a few moments before it goes silent
Answer: I have not had that happen. If you have had this for a while and have hard water, the valve may need to be cleaned; Cleaning is fairly simple with help from Google. "CLean Watts Valve" That said, if you are getting hot water maybe leave it alone.
Question: Is the grundfos 595926 a replacement for the watts wpwp367010 sensor
Answer: Grundfos is our supplier, for the hot water sensor valves. This is the same product, if you look at the photo it will show our Watts logo. I hope this is helpful.
Question: Can the sensor valve be cleaned
Answer: I can give an answer of a qualified "yes". I bought the Watts system (pump & valve) in January 2017. In November 2019, so just under three years, the valve stopped working; it stayed closed, and would not open, so whether the pump was running or not, we did not have hot water in a short time as expected. I ordered a replacement valve from Amazon and after it was installed, the system was working again. I wasn't able to figure out how to dismantle the valve as mentioned by another reviewer, and tried CLR briefly but decided to just use vinegar. After I immersed the faulty valve in vinegar (5% acetic acid) for six to eight weeks, I was pleasantly surprised that the original valve had apparently come back to life! Now the valve is open when at room temperature, and is closed after running hot water (105° or so) through it for a few seconds. You can test a valve by plugging the outlet for the hot water tap with your finger and blowing into the "hot" end of the valve. Listen for air to exit the "cold" side of the valve when the valve is cool, no air exiting when the valve has been warmed up. I won't know for sure if this original valve will function until my replacement fails and I reinstall the original valve, but I have reason to be optimistic that I won't have to buy a new valve every two to three years. The valve I purchased from Amazon seems to work exactly as well as the original product. I rate it at four stars to acknowledge that if people have not yet purchased a system, they may want to look for a model that is more robust than the Watts product.
Question: Scalding water on cold side. Is this a symptom of failure
Answer: Yes, if the water is scalding, that's not supposed to happen. The valve should maintain the hot water at the faucet at about 100°F, which is comfortably warm, not scalding. Of course, when you let the hot water run, it will get hotter from there. It is true that in normal operation, there will be some warm water in the cold water supply, but cooler than 100°F, not scalding. If you get scalding water in the cold water from the faucet, something is wrong. Could be the valve, could be the installation. If it's worked in the past, then probably the valve has failed. If you just installed it, probably the installation is wrong. Here by "scalding," I mean too hot to put your hand into.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this Stamped 14” on its face
Answer: Yes, someone will need to drill thru your counter.
Question: Will this work on a whirlpool N50T
Answer: We had installed a reverse osmosis system, so the RO 'room temperature' system feeds into this device, which then heats the water in the tank for instant hot out of the dispenser.. LOVE IT! Can't imagine being without it! If/when it goes down, I'd replace it immediately. (We did buy a different dispenser, a dual one with hot and cold, both from the RO filtered water.)
Question: Will this work on a whirlpool N50T
Question: will this work on whirlpool N40T
Answer: I have had the same problem. It was in the faucet. The on off lever does not turn off flow but the tank was OK. I assume all you need is to replace the faucet which should be available without a new tank.

EcoSmart

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.

User questions & answers

Question: Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds
Answer: My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry.
Question: The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why
Answer: Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo
Question: My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion
Answer: Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met.
Question: what amp breaker is required
Answer: The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. 

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water

Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.

Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.

Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.
