10 best excel water heaters

Excel water heaters are a type of water heating appliance designed for use in residential and commercial settings. They are typically used in situations where a continuous supply of hot water is required. Here are some key points about Excel water heaters:

  1. Tankless Water Heating: Excel water heaters are tankless, also known as on-demand or instantaneous water heaters. Unlike traditional water heaters with storage tanks, tankless models heat water only when it is needed. This can be more energy-efficient because there is no standby heat loss associated with keeping a large tank of water hot.

  2. Energy Efficiency: Tankless water heaters like Excel models are known for their energy efficiency. They are designed to heat water quickly and efficiently, reducing energy consumption and lowering utility bills.

  3. Compact Size: Excel tankless water heaters are typically compact and take up less space compared to traditional water heaters with tanks. This can be advantageous for homes with limited space for water heating equipment.

  4. Endless Hot Water: One of the primary benefits of Excel tankless water heaters is their ability to provide a continuous supply of hot water. Since they heat water on demand, there is no risk of running out of hot water during a shower or other hot water-consuming activities.

  5. Variety of Models: Excel offers a range of tankless water heater models with different flow rates and heating capacities to suit various needs. The choice of model depends on factors like the number of fixtures and the climate in which it will be used.

  6. Installation: Proper installation is crucial for the performance of Excel water heaters. They require specific venting and gas supply considerations. It's recommended to have these units installed by a qualified plumber or HVAC technician.

  7. Gas-Powered: Many Excel tankless water heaters are powered by natural gas or propane. This makes them suitable for areas with access to natural gas or where propane is a commonly used fuel source.

  8. Maintenance: Like all water heaters, Excel tankless models require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Maintenance tasks may include descaling to prevent mineral buildup and periodic inspections.

Excel water heaters, like other tankless models, are popular for their energy efficiency and ability to provide a continuous supply of hot water. However, it's essential to choose the right model based on your specific hot water needs and have it professionally installed to ensure it operates correctly and efficiently.

User questions & answers

Question: questions. does the fan run continuously? Is there a 12v version? thanks
Answer: Hello. Yes, when the I12-LP is heating water, the fan will run. There is no 12v version of this model. Here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009EDGTXG/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= is an indoor propane tankless heater with a battery ignition.GadgetsGo is an Authorized Eccotemp Dealer.Kind Regards,Ross KGadgetsGo
Question: does it have an electronic pilot light
Answer: Good Day, Dennis! Our Eccotemp i12-NG is a fully automated tankless water heater. There is no Pilot light, but the front panel display would tell you everything from ignition to full operation. Our i12 is a flow activated water heater.Thank you!Eccotemp Systems LLC
Question: Does it run on propane? It came up in my search for propane tankless water heaters but it's not labled as such
Answer: Yes, this uses propane and is labeled as such. LP means liquid propane. And the item description says, "Rated at an impressive 3 GPM, the Eccotemp I12-LP tankless water heater is a liquid Propane fired..."GadgetsGo is an Authorized Eccotemp Dealer.Kind Regards,RossGadgetsGo
Question: How do these hook up without a hot water tank
Answer: this takes the place of a hot water tank. there are connections for the water and gas and one plug to an outlet. it heats the water as it passes through the unit.
Question: What model is recommended for whole house
Answer: Hello. I'm sure any one would work, but I'd go with this larger capacity model. After having in for awhile, this one can output enough for 2 showers at full capacity, but one seems to be just a little restricted. If we installed some different shower heads I'm sure there wouldn't be any issues. For the minimal increase in cost, I believe the additional capacity is worth it. You may not always need it, but it's nice to know it's there if you do.
Question: I live in lower michigan and what model is recommended for whole house
Answer: Hi Sue Ann. Please refer to the sizing information in the second pic in Amazon's item description. It's very important to read up on tankless and how it works before purchasing. Key points to know: Your max. simultaneous hot water flow rate when everyone is using hot water. Whether you have enough amperage in your electrical panel. Most homes in USA require an upgrade to the electrical service which can cost several hundred dollars.Kind Regards,RossGadgetsGo
Question: Why are these so much less expensive than other name brand tankless heaters
Answer: Could it be the others are over priced or not produced in the volume these are?
Question: Even with 200 amp. My lights flicker with the water is in use. Any one having the same issue and how was the issue resolved? Thanks
Answer: After having an electrician inspect the installation and unit, I was told the Eco 36 really should only be installed on a 300 amp service or above. It is a great unit, but for most homes trying to run it on a 200 amp service, it is too much of a draw on the electrical. It will cause flickering lights and will become a problem when your timing a full house with showers, laundry, dishwashing, etc. I love the unit, but my service is 200 amp, so I'll be removing this and installing a Rheem Electric Hybrid tank water heater.

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water

Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.

Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.

Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

LED Display Controls

Turn off/on, adjust your desired temperature, measure GPM and more!

Energy Conscious

Uses virtually no energy while not in use. True on demand technology with low gas consumption.

Low Power Draw

While in use, the i12 uses around 2 amps. While idle it uses about 2 watts.

Water heaters are compact and lightweight and can be floor, shelf, or wall mounted (except 7 Gallon) - features a sleek and attractive design to blend seamlessly with decor.

Minimize Wait Time for Hot Water

Waiting for hot water at a sink located far from a primary heating source can be frustrating. Only having access to cold water from a sink is just not useful, and plumbing a hot water line to every sink in a home or business requires time and money. To get hot water where it’s needed, when it’s needed, a better solution is to use the Tronic 3000 T from Bosch: a point-of-use electric mini-tank heater. This heater can supplement a primary water heating source, or be used under a single sink. In fact, the Bosch Tronic 3000 T can be used for three different applications: as a sole water heating source for a single sink, as a supplement to an existing heater located far from the sink, and as a buffer installed in-line with tankless water heaters that experience intermittent cold water, also known as 'cold water sandwiching'. No matter the configuration, there’s minimal stand-by loss from this premium mini-tank water heater.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the recovery time if the 7 gallons of hot water is used
Answer: I have the 4 gallon tank and it is not too bad for the reheat
Question: Can I reduce the pipe's size from 3/4 in to 1/2 in without any negative effect on the unit
Answer: No harm to unit.....Max water flow will be reduced a little.
Question: Can i use this to replace a small rv hot water heater
Answer: Yes, but realize that it's electric and draws quite a few amps, most rv water heaters are propane.
Question: The Manual request for the ES8 a 20 Amp breaker and 12GA wire. The wattage however is 1440 with 12 Amps. Why then 20 Amp breaker and not
Answer: I would use a 20 amp circuit with 12 ga wire but there are no inrush concerns with a resistive load. A heating element does not have a higher initial current draw like a motor. It draws 1440 watts or 12 amps at 120v. Since 14 ga wire must be fused for 15 amps, this device by itself is already at 80% of the circuit’s capacity.

User questions & answers

Question: which models are "condensing" units, please
Answer: I don’t know. But I suggest u look for a different brand. It already failed twice in less than a year and their warranty is a scam. They provide the parts which are pennies and leave out labor.
Question: How does it effect the water pressure, will it change
Answer: It does not effect my water pressure at all. I’ve had it for over a year now
Question: My existing water heater is located next to and shares a flue with the furnace. Can I hook the same way on this
Answer: Hold up there, previous answer, not so fast. It is true that you should not have both the hot water heater and furnace venting directly into the flue, combining the exhaust. However, some people see their vent pipes entering the flue (or chimney wall) and assume they are both releasing the fumes inside the chimney. In some cases, the venting pipes continue separately up the flue. Joseph, if you have two vent pipes entering your flue, there is a chance that both pipes continue separately up the flue and out the top. If that is the case, you may be able to use the existing hot water vent system. When you look at the top of your chimney, do you see two terminations coming out?
Question: How does very cold intake water affect performance
Answer: Sorry to contradict but the temperature of the water going into the water heater will definitely have an effect on the temperature of the water coming out. the water heater needs to provide enough BTUs to heat the volume of water that you need to the water temperature that you want. If the water starts off at a lower temperature it will take more BTUs to get it to the temperature you want. This unit claims to be able to provide 6.6 gallons of hot water per minute but that assumes the water is startling an average temperature. If you have a modern shower head it will only use about 2.5 GPM but if you have second shower going, a hot water faucet open or a clothes washer filling at the same time you will run out of capacity quickly. Rinnai should have tables on their website that shows the ability of the unit to heat water at a variety of starting temperatures to a range of hot water temperatures at a given flow rate.

EcoSmart ECO 11 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 13KW at 240 Volts with Patented Self Modulating Technology

EcoSmart

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.

User questions & answers

Question: Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds
Answer: My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry.
Question: The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why
Answer: Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo
Question: My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion
Answer: Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met.
Question: what amp breaker is required
Answer: The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. 

Question: Can the temperature output be adjusted to 105F
Answer: Sinks have aerators to slow down the water where a tub doesn't. It sounds like one possibility is that your exceeding the GPM for this heater. Next possibility, double check an measure your actually getting at least 240v at the heater, I had an issue where my unit was only getting 235v an it was causing a similar issue where only one of the two heating elements was activating. I had it set to 125F but it was coming out 100F. It was warm and without a meter I would of thought it was working correctly until I tried filling a tub. It couldn't even get the water warm. I pulled my wires out an restripped an cut an screwed them in an it fixed my problem, now its measuring around 245v. Make sure there is no copper showing after screwing down your input wires. Now filling the tub I noticed after about 10-15 seconds the water gets too hot to touch. I set it to 135F.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this item here the US3. I need the 120volt unit
Answer: No, the 120V unit is the 3.2 KW unit and is the Bosch Tronic 3000 US3. GlobalTowne is an Authroized Bosch Distributor.
Question: On the 9.5k model. At what flow rate does it turn on
Answer: not sure when it actually turns on, but I usually ran it at about 1.1 gallons per minute. Sometimes, if the cold water was running or the toilet was flushing, the water flow was not fast enough to turn it on.
Question: Could two of these connected in series provide a higher gpm rate? (my winter water temp is often below 40f. looking to get a little over 2gpm
Answer: No, The Bosch electric tankless water heaters cannot be fed into one another, Max temperature into the unit is 86 degrees F. For good hot water at 2 gpm I would suggest the high KW unit Bosch Tronic 6000C WH17. This unit is a 17KW unit and requires 2 - double pole 40 amp breakers with 8 gauge wire. GlobalTowne is an Authorized Bosch Distributor.
Question: The 12kw unit specs from bosch recommend 6 gauge wire. is it safe to use 8 or 10 gauge wire
Answer: 8 or 10 gauge wire will not be heavy enough for the Bosch US12 as it is a 12 KW unit and requires 6 gauge wire. GlobalTowne is an Authorized Bosch Distributor.

Reliable Point-of-Use Heat

Provides hot water with electrical power at the sink where you need it, so you don’t waste time or water waiting, and is backed by a limited 5-year warranty on the heating element and 1-year limited warranty on other components.

Save Energy and Money

Because water is heated directly without the use of a storage tank, there’s no standby energy loss experienced by traditional tank heaters, and no pressure or relief valve is required.

Great for Small Spaces

These tankless heaters are compact and lightweight and can be mounted vertically or horizontally (except model US12) – featuring an understated design to blend in seamlessly with existing decor.

The Benefits of Going Tankless

Waiting for hot water at a sink located far from the primary heating source can be frustrating. Only having access to cold water from a sink is just not useful, and plumbing a hot water line to every sink in a home or business requires time and money. To get hot water where it’s needed, when it’s needed, a better solution is to install the Tronic 3000 from Bosch: a point-of-use electric tankless water heater. Tankless heaters are a great energy saving option – and when you save energy, you save money! In addition, the Tronic 3000 takes up far less space than a traditional heater, and can be wall mounted right under the sink, taking up practically zero space in your home. Because they run on your home’s electricity and don’t hold water, less overall maintenance is required. With less wait for water, savings of energy (and therefore money!) and less space, the benefits of choosing tankless heaters for your home or business are obvious.

Ecosmart ECO 18 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 18 KW at 240 Volts with Patented Self Modulating Technology,White

EcoSmart

Based on 3 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 62°F and above. The ECO 18 is capable of heating over 2.5 gallons per minute, which is the equivalent of one water saver shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 62°F, and an output setting of 105° F. Two showers emitting no more than 1.5 gpm each can be run simultaneously when incoming water temperature is above 70° F. Digital temperature control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1°. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. However, when sized properly it will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 18 requires a minimum 150 amp electrical panel for installation with 40 amp double pole breakers connected to sets of #8 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 3/4" NPT. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.

User questions & answers

Question: How do know which size to buy? We will supply two bathrooms, dish washer, clothes washer. What size should I choose
Answer: I noted someone below stating they got the largest one and they can only run one water source at a time. My guess is they installed it wrong by not getting the electric hooked up right, or maybe the unit was just defective, or they live in Alaska. I went under size with an Eco 27 a few years ago because that’s all my electric panel could handle. We have zero issues in the summer. During winter months we can only run one shower at a time and have to slowly fill a tub (maybe 3/4 fill speed). To save as much money as I am on electric bill and have unlimited shower lengths (only 1 person at a time mid-Dec to mid-March) is totally worth it. On here today because I’m thinking of upping my panel size so was thinking of going with a larger one now. Regardless, CCRC’s experience with the largest unit not working is nothing like the experience I’ve had, and again I intentionally undersized mine for the house. The website has a clear chart to explain size you need based on number of water fixtures in your home and ground water temperature.
Question: Can this unit supply a 3,700 sq foot home with 3 1/2 baths
Answer: In the lower states it can, but in the northern states, multiple simultaneous users, it will be overloaded. If you can afford a 3,700 square foot home, then you can place a unit in each appropriate demand zone and be very glad you did. I love mine, live in KY, get great supply when the water is above 60 degrees, and then it slows the flow as the temperature drops. I have dishwasher, washing machine, garden tube, 2 showers, 3 sinks and 4 people. It is better than great in the summer, okay spring and fall, and we are conservative in the winter.
Question: What is the power consumption of this tank-less heater
Answer: The instantaneous power consumption while the hot water is running is quite high (up to 18kW or 27kW depending on which model you’re looking at on this page). However, when no hot water is being used, the power consumption is 0 (or a minuscule amount to run an LED light or something). The total power consumption over the course of several days or longer should be much lower than a tank heater but the short term power usage while the heater is making hot water will be much higher than a tank heater. It’s just that the unit sits idle most of the time while a tank heater will use power fairly frequently even when no hot water is needed as the water in the tank cools off over time and needs to be re-heater fairly constantly
Question: remote
Answer: This unit does not have the ability to have a remote temperature control.

User questions & answers

Question: can this unit be hooked up to 20 lbs propane tank
Answer: Any unit that takes the small throw away cylinders can be connected to a larger cylinder with an adapter hose. Bayou Classic cookers makes one that’s 4’ long and connects to a QCC cylinder valve. Part# MCR1. They’re many other lengths and manufactures that do the same.
Question: Coleman is avoiding the GPM on this unit. my question is what else are they not telling
Answer: I sent mine back. Coleman, flow rate was sufficient, and is largely dependent on the input pressure. YOU are the igniter for the Coleman. I chose instead to return my Coleman, and purchased a Triton on-demand. The Triton is self igniting (D cell batts) and has an internal flow sensor. So, add batteries, hook it up to a water and propane source, and you have instant hot water when you turn the valve.
Question: How easy would it be to extend the shower-head hose? Is it a standard-size that I could find an extension for easily
Answer: I bought 3/8th by 1/2 in diameter tubing from Menards. Swapped the hardware. And now I have a 15ft hose for my shower head. Was not difficult to swap.
Question: can you turn the water flow off at the shower head
Answer: No the water has to be continuous running for the heater to work.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i hook this to a standing solar shower
Answer: Yes. My carpet hasn’t vibrated at all with this mat under the treadmill.
Question: does it have an on off button for the shower head? Does it have a temperature adjustment dial or button? Does it have a hook up to garden hose
Answer: I recently really upped my incline for the whole run and haven't noticed any issues with the mat bunching. Maybe a small amount but nothing major and no ripping at all. It would take a lot to rip this mat. I researched mats thoroughly and this seemed the best quality and best deal. It's thick but not too thick and just right size for my treadmill. I've heard the really thick ones create too much bounce on the treadmill.
Question: Do i fil this water heater with water
Answer: I use mine on a berber low pile type carpet and it works fine. Actually I bought the mat specificly to be used on top of carpet for better stability and eliminating "dents" in the carpet.
Question: Can this unit be installed in the crawl space of an RV
Answer: Personally, I would want something sturdier. The material is capable of being rolled and folded which may not stay down and trip some people in a fitness studio.
