Types of Atwood Gas Heaters: Atwood offers a range of gas water heaters, including tankless and tank-type models. Tankless models provide hot water on demand and are more energy-efficient because they heat water only when needed. Tank-type models store hot water in a tank for immediate use.
Energy Source: Atwood gas heaters primarily use propane as their fuel source. Propane is a clean-burning and efficient fuel commonly found in portable and off-grid settings.
Features and Benefits:
- Quick Recovery: Atwood heaters are designed for quick recovery, meaning they can provide a continuous supply of hot water, even in demanding situations.
- Safety Features: These heaters often come equipped with safety features such as automatic shutoff in case of overheating or flame failure.
- Compact Design: Atwood heaters are known for their space-saving design, making them suitable for installations in tight spaces.
- Reliability: Atwood is a trusted brand known for manufacturing durable and long-lasting water heaters.
Installation: Proper installation is crucial for the efficient and safe operation of Atwood gas heaters. It's important to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and consider professional installation if you are unsure about the process.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keep your Atwood gas heater functioning optimally. This includes cleaning the burner, checking for leaks, and ensuring proper ventilation.
Availability of Parts: Atwood provides replacement parts and accessories for their water heaters, making it easier to perform repairs and maintenance when necessary.
Compatibility: Atwood heaters are designed to work seamlessly with other RV or marine plumbing systems, ensuring compatibility with various setups.
Warranty: Atwood typically offers warranties on their products, which can vary in duration depending on the model and type of water heater.
In summary, Atwood gas heaters are a reliable and efficient choice for heating water in RVs, boats, and other off-grid or mobile applications. They come in both tankless and tank-type models, using propane as their primary fuel source. User questions & answers
Question: | heater ignites and only runs for about 1 minute then shuts down. is it the gas solenoid valve or circuit board |
Answer: | If you have an intermittent connection somewhere on any of the electrical connections the board will shut down the gas flow to the solenoid in the gas valve. Get a multimeter and check the current between ALL the connections (youtube videos show you how to do this). I thought the board was bad, ordered a new one, then found no current going through the high temp fuse (long wire with plastic cover connected to gas thermostats mounted on tank. Also check 12 v current going to spark ignitor. This device constantly sparks to the ground rod (1/8" gap). If contacts are corroded, or, ceramic insulator cracked, or gap too large between igniter (right angle) and ground rod(straight & welded to metal piece that holds igniter in place)-board shuts off gas solenoid. In my case, water heater had been adjusted for high altitude (roaring like a jet engine) combined with drippy pressure relief valve soaking the gas flow chamber= inconsistent gas flow with occasional "WHUUMPPFF" of larg amount of gas igniting, blowing the over limit fuse, as it was designed to do. Cleaning the rust off gas flow adjustment tube and adjusting the flame PLUS burping the tank to correct the missing air pocket corrected the drippy pressure valve and burner stays lit. Waiting on new thermal limit fuses from Amazon to be able to leave gas on. |

Question: | Will this work with atwood g6a-6e-aa water heater? (electronic ignition |
Answer: | To access the old switch, from the outside of the unit I disassembled the heater. Going slowly, removinf fasteners as it became apparent they were next to be removed. Caution, - be sure you turn off the electrical supply for the heater prior to beginninh as 12 volt dc will make quite a shower of sparks if a hot positive wire touches anything grounded to the chassis. Sorry I cannot give you a step by step account- my replacement was a couple of years ago with no problems since. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this fit a atwood 8520-IV |
Answer: | I'm not sure. |
Question: | Does this gas valve fit a atwood 8531-iii |
Answer: | No, there is not any adapters but you can bend round 4" pipe and fit it on. |
Question: | Will this valve fit 8531-iv |
Answer: | Yes, a very low led lite is included along with the regular light. The regular light is not quite enough to light the whole bathroom however. I have installed 2 of these and wish I would have put in an additional light. The wiring diagram is set for 3 switches. The light, nightlight, and a fan override to turn it on. I wish I would have included a "Master off" switch for the fan as sometimes it runs when I don't want it to even though I have the humidity sensor set to the maximum. |
Question: | does this valve fit the 8940-iii |
Answer: | I have not tried to add a dimmer switch with mine. It has the Nightlight |

Question: | This valve is what mine looks like but the dealers are saying to use the 93844 valve which doesn’t resemble mine at all. Which valve |
Answer: | I used this one in my 1997 Van Camper to replace the Atwood gas valve and it worked with extra copper parts but it did look kind of like this, it's just a gas valve with 2 solenoids hook it up right and it works |
Question: | Will this fit a 1992 Fleetwood Coronado |
Answer: | i used it as a replacement for the water heater gas valve for a 1992 Fleetwood Jamboree. It is not an exact duplicate as I had to trim off the bracket in the water heater cabinet the original mounted on. Once you connect the incoming and outgoing lines it fits well and works just like the original. A good, inexpensive replacement for the original dual valve. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a anode rod |
Answer: | These newer units are designed so that they do not need an anode rod. |
Question: | Are installations instructions included |
Answer: | Since you asked the question can I assume you are not mechanically and electrically knowledgable? There are no step by step instructions. There is 110 volts connected in the back of the unit. There are 4 wires that connect the unit to the thermostat available when the unit is partway out. There is a propane connection in the front. There are 2 water line connections in the back. Make sure the thermostat is turned off. Make sure the 120 volt source is turned off. Make sure the propane is turned off. Put putty tape around the opening before installing the new unit. The job takes about 2 hours if you know what you are doing. I also recommend 2 hex 1/2 inch brass fittings for the water connections. I hope this helps. |
Question: | Will this unit work to replace a ge16ext |
Answer: | I don’t know. The manufacturer would have to answer that. |
Question: | I can’t find the access door for this water heater please help |
