Corro-Protec CP-R Water Heater Powered Titanium Anode Rod (40-89 Gallon Tank) - Eliminate Odor (Sulfur/rotten egg smell), Corrosion and Reduce Limescale

Corro-Protec

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

DO YOU HAVE SMELLY WATER?

The Corro-Protec Powered Anode made of titanium is a long-term solution to preventing sulfide smells (that rotten egg smell) produced by well water.

Aggressive well water and the use of softeners contribute to the sacrificing of passive anodes (magnesium, aluminum, and aluminum/zinc) much quicker, generally requiring replacement every 2-5 years.

PERMANENT SOLUTION TO ROTTEN EGG SMELL

By replacing your existing anode with Corro-Protec Powered Anode Rod it may be the last anode you ever buy! We back our claim with a 20-year warranty.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

  • May require a longer nipple and brass coupler to clear the insulation and complete the install.
  • Adaptable to replacing hex head anodes only. Designed with a 3" long nipple.
  • Universal to most gas and electric water heaters.

  • SAY GOODBYE TO ODORS – Eliminate your water heat odor problem by removing the rotten egg smell caused by hydrogen sulfide with our advanced powered anode rod.
  • PERMANENT CORROSION PROTECTION – Designed to replace your 40-89-gallon water heater’s hex head anode rod, it can help defend against any level of water hardness.
  • ENERGY EFFICIENT DESIGN – By reducing mineral accumulation on the tank it can help improve the water quality while reducing stress on the tank to reduce energy costs.
  • QUICK AND EASY INSTALLATION – We’ve included an easy-to-follow paper and step-by-step online PDF instructions to make installing your anode rod much easier. You will need a 1 1/16 '' socket to remove the magnesium anode as well as a 1 3/16 (or 31mm) socket to install The Corro-Protec
  • WARRANTY & QUALITY – Manufactured right here in Canada, our hot water heater anode rod not only extends the life of your tank but is backed by a 20-year warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the corro-protec electric anode rod work in an ao smith 50 gal. electric water heater
Answer: Does this anode rod work in 50 gallon A.O. Smith elec water heater?
Question: Will this work for a 65 gallon gas Bradford white hot water heater
Answer: My 75 gallon gas fired Bradford White heater has a separate port for the anode rod like those of other makers. It is NOT recessed within the hot water connection, so does not need the special model with the extra plumbing. If you have a B W heater, take a look at the top to see whether yours has such an accessible anode.
Question: Will this work with a hot water heater attached to a water softener
Answer: I have a water softener and actually went with this product rather than replacing it with an aluminum/zinc anode based on some research I had done. Has been working fine for me for a couple months now.
Question: What is the success rate with the powered anode rod? We have tried aluminum-zinc with no luck. We have well water with a softening system
Answer: I have treated well water (whole house filtration and softener). The hot water smelled like hard-boiled eggs. I installed the Corro-Protect and flushed the water heater. 24 hours later, the sulfur smell is 100% eliminated. My magnesium rod was only a month old and the sulfur smell was moderate to strong. The Corro-Protect has impressed me so far.

Product features

24-HOUR ROTTEN EGG SMELL ELIMINATIOIN

No matter what causes the odors of sulfur in your water, the Corro-Protec Powered Anode Rod can solve this problem in just a few hours. Once the system is operational, the energy projected by the Impressed Current Cathodic System will prevent these unpleasant smells for years to come!

STOPS CORROSION INSIDE TANK

Our Corro-Protec anode combined with electrical current will provide added corrosion protection and increase the life of your hot water tank. Our system provides a layer of permanent corrosion protection on the internal welds and weak points of the tank. This technology is recognized by corrosion specialists and has been laboratory tested.

REDUCES LIMESCALE ACCUMULATION

Limescale deposits cause significant costs for the rehabilitation of water pipes and heating installations and are also responsible for significant energy losses. The energy sent by the Corro-Protec imposed current anode is used to destabilize the calcium molecule found within the water, which has the effect of preventing the chemical reaction that normally creates calcite.

Prepare

  1. Turn off electrical power supply
  2. Turn off water supply
  3. Remove the water pressure from the tank
  4. Remove the magnesium anode

Install

  1. Install Teflon tape on the lower portion of the Corro-Protec
  2. Insert and screw the Corro-Protec

Plug it

  1. Install the ground on the hot water tank
  2. Connect the Corro-Protec Anode on the rectifier
  3. Connect the rectifier

Sacrificial VS Powered Anode

When a hot water tank is exposed to corrosive water, the magnesium anode will transfer electrons to the inner side of the hot water tank to protect it. The anode will slowly break up. After a few years, there will be no more protection for corrosion.

All you need to do is replace the original anode with the Corro-Protec and simply connect the current rectifier. Our Corro-Protec combined with electrical current will provide improved corrosion protection and increase the life of your water heater.

User questions & answers

Question: What's the upper limit temperature rating? i'd like to insulate a single wall ss tank in my brewery that will hold up to 180f / 82c liquid inside
Answer: Hi, the temperature range of our foil products is -50F to 180F. Thank you JR Global Sales
Question: How high a heat can this take? Can it be used to insulate a food smoker
Answer: do not know
Question: Is this this for a gas water heater
Answer: Yes. I have a 40 gal gas hot water heater I put it on and it works well. Just need to leave it back about 8” all the way around the stack coming out of the top of the tank.
Question: What is the r rating
Answer: Reflective Foil does not use R-Values as its primary source of stopping heat loss, it uses 'Reflective Technology' which is based on 'blocking and reflecting' Radiant Heat back to its source as opposed to R-Values that 'hold and absorb' heat loss. Reflective Foil reflects up to 97% of Radiant Heat Loss. It also has a 'secondary source' of heat loss protection of R-5 to R-7 depending on the application by virtue of its construction of the laminated air bubbles. For many years when the topic of conversation turns to insulation, we have been conditioned to think along the lines of R-Value. The R-Value type of insulations are generally associated with Fiberglass and cellulose insulation. Fiberglass and Cellulose insulations have dominated the Retail market for decades and do a reasonably good job depending on its application. The 'new' insulation, 'Reflective Foil' (I use that term loosely, as it has been around for many years) has been used in high tech areas and not so much in the Retail market until recently. Generally speaking R-Value Fibrous insulations, 'holds and absorbs heat' and is limited to it capacity depending on its density and can break down over time. Reflective Foil, continues to block up to 97% of Radiant Heat and does not break down over time. NASA has been using Reflective Foil since the 1950's. See below a small excerpt from a NASA article: NASA Uses Radiant Barrier. In the mid 1950s, when Clark E. Beck, PE, of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base engineered the development of radiant barrier technology for NASA and the space program, he couldn't have envisioned the variety of applications for which this insulation material would someday be used. NASA was trying to find a way to protect the astronauts during space walks from the extreme temperature shifts ranging from -273 degrees Celsius to +238 degrees Celsius. They discovered that they would have to have a 'seven-foot thick protective layer on the space suit' if they attempted to use conventional insulation. Obviously, this was way out of the question. Instead of trying to insulate the suits, they turned to reflective technology and used aluminum foil radiant barrier to solve the problem. NASA reflected the heat of their own body back at the astronauts to keep them warm, while at the same time they used the foil to reflect the deadly direct radiation from the sun (radiant heat) out of the space suit to keep them cool. I hope the above helps to understand the difference between Reflective Foil Insulation(Reflective Technology) and Fiberglass Insulation (R-Values). Thank you for your inquiry. User questions & answers

Question: can this 6.6 gpm tankless water heater be ok for a 2 bathrooms and the kitchen
Answer: Probably not, certainly not if both showers are running and the kitchen sink. Use the Navien 240-A instead. This is a 40 gallon WH replacement only.
Question: Do you just run the 2" vent pipe trough the existing 4" liner? Seems like a pain
Answer: I ran the flex myself through our existing B-vent. I had the benefit of a perfectly straight run up to the roof and less than 5'. Very easy and probably took me about 20 minutes to install the vent line. Measuring/cutting the flex to length took the most time.
Question: Anyone using this in a place that has colder ground water like washington state
Answer: Yes. When I lived in Bellingham, WA. I replaced my tank heater with this system. Had no issues with it providing hot constant water at the factory settings.
Question: Is it noisy, loud
Answer: I don't find this noisy at all. There is a small noise that I can hear from the closet it is in if I am listening for it, but can't hear it above the HVAC or water if either are running. It is mounted in my house on a wall shared with another room and noticed a small vibration that I can hear from the other room when it is running, but nothing more annoying than the other normal noises in my house.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this what would be used to insulate a water well head
Answer: The product is specifically made to insulate a water heater. I'd suggest that a well head would need a custom made insulation - perhaps by buying a roll of fiberglass batting and cutting to fit.
Question: does this fit an 80 gallon
Answer: It fit easily on a 50; I would doubt it would work around an 80. (You could take a string around your tank, and compare to measurements.)
Question: This is too big for my water heater (which is 48" tall and 75" around). Can I cut this down or will that ruin the insulation in some way
Answer: The "blanket" is merely a thin section of insulation with mylar covering on one side. Cutting it is easy with scissors and will do no harm. The mylar is very thin and you must be careful not to puncture it. You may want to buy a roll of tape. The pieces that come with it don't go too far.
Question: need wrap for outside water tank
Answer: I wouldn't use this outside. I think that it would absorb water like insulation.

User questions & answers

Question: my water heater is a 50 gallon heater. it is 56" igh and 62.8" in circumfeence will this blanket fit it
Answer: Our heater is an 80 gal and it fit fine with a bit extra around the width.
Question: What are the demensions? 80 gallon tank is not relative. Need length & width of strips
Answer: there were three tank wall strips measuring 23" x 80 ". There was also a top piece that was about 30 inches in diameter.
Question: what is the r value of this blanket
Answer: I honestly don't recall the package specifying the R value. I have answered couple of questions before in re:various aspects of this product and basically I am very satisfied with itMy heater sits RIGHT NEXT to my basement door - and I have an old house so that area is far from being 'warm and cozy'. I am not going to tell you whether or not we "saved money" by using this blanket - with the electricity rates going up and down and what-have-you...its not worth my time figuring out that difference. What I CAN tell you is that the difference in the temperature of the hot water was IMMEDIATELY noticed by both my wife and I in the shower and the kitchen (reasonably 2 places the hot water gets used the most). It went up a good couple of degrees, so this blanket must be doing something righthope that helps
Question: What is the R rating of this blanket? Seems no one can answer
Answer: This insulations main function is to reflect Radiant heat, it doesn't do much in the way of stopping Conductive heat transfer, therefore, radiant/reflective type insulation doesn't have much, if any R value which only applies to Conduction, the R value for this is probably is the range of 0.5 to 1.5. However, since most of the heat loss from the skin of your water heater is Radiant and Convective, this type insulation is effective in reducing the heat loss. It reflects the radiant heat emmitting from the skin of your water heater, and thus provides a cooler outer surface in contact with the air, which reduces the convective heat loss also. Reflective insulation can be quite effective with virtually no R value, R value only applies to Conductive heat transfer; Raditation and Convection insulations have different performance measurements, a published Radiant heat reflective rating would help, but any reflective insulation that uses at least 99% pure aluminum has about a 97% Radiant heat reflective performance. This stuff works like those thin foil emergency blankets you can buy at any sporting goods store, those blankets have 0 R value, but can keep you warmer by reflecting your radiant heat back toward your body.

This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.

NOTE : 11Kw at 220 is equal to 13kw at 240. .Activation Flow : 0.3 GPM

User questions & answers

Question: Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds
Answer: My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry.
Question: The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why
Answer: Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo
Question: My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion
Answer: Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met.
Question: what amp breaker is required
Answer: The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. 

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water

Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.

Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.

Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

User questions & answers

Question: will these elements fit Rheem Mod# 72v-52-2 Water Heater
Answer: These elements did fit and worked well.
Question: I have an older (17 year old) Whirlpool 50 gallon water heater, will this work, even though its a Rheem
Answer: It will work. Make sure you clean your old one out. Read up on YouTube how to. You’ll get better life out of your water heater and heating elements.
Question: Will this fit a Rheem 40gal 70-40s its about 25yo
Answer: hot water tanks haven't changed for thermostats etc in more than 40 years so would think your ok
Question: Richmond is manufactured by Rheem. Will this fit a Richmond 6e
Answer: All these parts were identical to the parts I removed from my twelve year old GE water heater (further research indicated it was actually a Rheem). I swapped out the old parts and replaced them with these parts. The water heater now works as if new. I might note that these heating elements also look identical to similar generic items at Home Depot. I doubt they would stock it unless it fit just about everything.
