12 best pex floor heats
PEX floor heating systems, also known as radiant floor heating systems, are a type of heating system that uses cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing to distribute heat evenly throughout the floors of a building. These systems are typically used in residential and commercial applications and offer several advantages:
Efficiency: PEX floor heating systems are highly efficient because they operate at lower water temperatures compared to traditional forced-air heating systems. This results in energy savings and lower heating bills.
Comfort: Radiant floor heating provides consistent and even heat distribution, creating a comfortable living or working environment. There are no cold spots or drafts often associated with forced-air systems.
Quiet Operation: PEX floor heating systems operate silently, as there are no noisy fans or ducts involved. This contributes to a peaceful atmosphere in your space.
Allergy-Friendly: Since there is no air blowing around, radiant floor heating doesn't circulate allergens and dust particles, making it a good choice for people with allergies.
Zoning: Radiant floor heating systems can be divided into zones, allowing for customized temperature control in different areas of a building. This can be controlled by separate thermostats, giving you flexibility in heating specific rooms or areas as needed.
Installation: PEX tubing is flexible and can be easily installed under various flooring materials, including tile, hardwood, and concrete. It can also be installed in walls and ceilings, making it a versatile heating solution.
Compatibility: PEX floor heating systems can work with different heat sources, including boilers, water heaters, and even solar thermal systems, making them adaptable to various heating needs and energy sources.
Low Maintenance: Once installed, PEX floor heating systems require minimal maintenance. The tubing is durable and resistant to corrosion.
Cost: While the initial installation cost of PEX floor heating systems can be higher than traditional heating systems, the long-term energy savings and increased property value can make it a worthwhile investment.
Warmth from the Ground Up: Radiant floor heating provides a unique and comfortable heating experience by warming the objects and people in the room from the floor up, mimicking the way the sun heats the Earth.
It's important to note that PEX floor heating systems should be installed by qualified professionals to ensure proper design, layout, and installation. The specific details of your system, such as tubing spacing and heat source, will depend on the size and layout of the space you're heating. Additionally, proper insulation and controls are essential to maximize the efficiency of the system.
Overall, PEX floor heating systems offer an efficient, comfortable, and customizable way to heat indoor spaces, and they have gained popularity as an alternative to traditional heating methods.

User questions & answers
Question: | how to install |
Answer: | There are too many ways to install heat transfer plates for radiant heating depending on your situation and application, consult your radiant heating contractor on what is best for your application. I will discuss the most common 2 methods for you to have an idea/guide.1. Staple UpTubing is attached to the underside of the existing subfloor. Aluminum plates can be used to spread the heat evenly under the subfloor. Insulation is placed in the joist space beneath the tubing. A 2 inch air space is usually left between the insulation and the bottom of the subfloor. If aluminum plates are used which significantly cover the underside of the subfloor, the insulation may be pushed up tight against the plates. Obviously, care must be taken when nailing any floor covering from above. Wood screws are typically used to attach the plate to the underside of the subfloor but nail gun works fine as well.2. Subfloor PlatesAluminum plates supported by wood or plastic spacers contain channels which accept tubing. These plates spread the heat uniformaly beneath the finished floor. Hardwood floors can be nailed directly to the subfloor plates or carpet and pad placed over the plates. It is also possible to nail a second subfloor over the plates for a smoother finish for vinyl areas. A cement board is used when tile or stone is to be installed. Particle board is not recommended as a subfloor. |
Question: | can this product be stappled up |
Answer: | Yes it can. I useed my 18 gauge stapler with 1/2" staples and made quick work of the project. I put staples every few inches to get a good heat transfer from the pannel to my sub-floor. If there is a space btween your pannel and the floor your wasring heat energy. |
Question: | Is a 3/4 inch curve in these plates available |
Answer: | Unfortunately no. |
Question: | how wide are these |
Answer: | 4-3/8" exactly. They are made with 5" plates and after the machine makes the curve, it will be 4-3/8" wide. Hope that is helpful |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used for potable water |
Answer: | If the receiver on the opener is 318 MHz frequency it should in theory work |
Question: | Is the bending radius 5 feet or 5 inches? It says feet, but that sounds like a typo |
Answer: | Yes it does. I no longer use it because I had to have a new garage door opener installed and I couldn't get it to work. |
Question: | Does this tubing have the aproved (certified) US standards marked on the tubing |
Answer: | The remote that you have here will only open one door. You have a "open" "stop" and "close" on this remote. If you are looking for a remote that will open three differnt doors i would go with a remote with a item number of 8833TC. This remote will have a selecter that has A, B, and C to open doors 1, 2, and 3. In order for this remote to work you will have to make sure all three garage door openers are the same brand. Hopefuuly this will answer your question. |
Question: | The description says class a. Does that mean it's a pex |
Answer: | Sorry, I don't know if that remote could be compatible with your own system. You have to check frequency and coding. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this in a poured concreat patio |
Answer: | The cable in the mesh cannot be cut, but the cable can be removed from the mesh material to make a free flowing cable to get around obstacles. These cables have a factory determined resistance and cutting the cable would change the output of the system and most likely cause a fault to occur. The nice thing about the free flowing cable systems is that you can change the spacing in order to fit pretty much any square footage desired. We try to offer as many sizes of mats as possible. |
Question: | Will the 1/2” pipe sit flush with the plate?? I just had to return another brand of plates because they do not sit flush |
Answer: | Unfortunately it did not work with ours. We had to order the original, old style remote. |

Question: | Within the flow meters does the red disk inside the glass represent flow quantity? So turn to the right provide more flow?Does this counter white knob |
Answer: | Any line voltage, GFCI, floor sensing thermostat will work with this mat. We are not aware of a homekit compatible thermostat that has the required features built-in. |
Question: | What grade (number) stainless steel is this unit |
Answer: | Depending on several variables of the room, the system may or may not heat the space. |
Question: | Hi, we are installing the manifold we purchased and lost one of the pex connectors or how can we purchase one |
Answer: | No, its not really designed for that application. The watt density is too low to melt snow. |
Question: | I have 3/4" pex - can this manifold be used with that size pex |
Answer: | Hi Geroy, we typically recommend the industry best practices for manufactured products you are using. Many of the thin set/mortar manufacturers have videos on you tube of how to apply the thin set or mortar. I think the best method is to use a self leveling product over the heating cables first before the main tile installation. This protects the heating cable from the notched trowel that is required for tile and essentially it looks like a regular floor without heating cable. Please call is if you have any questions during the installation, we have stellar tech support! |
User questions & answers
Question: | what is the bend radius for this tubing |
Answer: | You cannot cut the electric heating element cable. You can only cut the mesh mat. You can separate and remove the cable from the mesh and snake the excess wire elsewhere provided you don’t cross over or run closer than the manufacturer recommends to another heating element cable. |
Question: | Is this rated for potable water? If not, what makes this unsafe for potable water |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this manifold be used with potable water |
Answer: | You can loosen the heating element from the mesh and put along side the mat keeping it at 3" spacing. |
Question: | What 1/2" adapters/compression nuts do I buy |
Answer: | The floor heating system can be installed under laminate or engineered wood floors, but not a traditional wood floor in which you are nailing down the floor because of the risk of putting a nail through the wire. Regardless of the flooring type, the floor heating system must be completely embedded in a polymer modified cement based mortar. |
Question: | Does it fit 3/8 tubing pex or do yiu sell 3/8 fittings fir this manifold |
Answer: | You need to seal your concrete floor! Theres a great product on amazon here that gets down into concrete and seals up everything--it even pushes dirt and moisture out as its sealing! and you just spray it on. Its advertised to block radon, but its all the same different of sealing concrete (will make moisture barrier, block radon, etc.) I think its just called "Radonseal" and its in a big bucket; you'll also need a 1 gallon sprayer, they run about ten bucks. I would seal it before installing this product, as you'll get a lot more out of it. You'll still want to cover it with something so it can distribute its heat (like put in thinset or something like that) it doesn't have to be fancy tile. I did mine in thinset and threw a rug over it to make a warm place for my pets while i'm at work. |
Question: | What thermal actuators are compatible with this Manifold |
Answer: | No, but Kohler has a tub that has a built in heating element on the portion where you lean up against. I don't know how well it would heat the water, but I bet it would be nice. |
