13 best tabletop saws

Tabletop saws are compact and versatile power tools used for various cutting tasks, particularly in woodworking, tile cutting, and masonry work. These saws are designed to be placed on a table or workbench, providing a stable platform for precision cutting. Here is some information about tabletop saws:

  1. Types of Tabletop Saws:

    • Table Saw: Table saws are commonly used in woodworking. They consist of a circular saw blade that protrudes through the table's surface, allowing you to make precise cuts in wood, plywood, and other materials. They are available in various sizes, from small benchtop models to larger contractor and cabinet saws.

    • Tile Saw: Tile saws are designed specifically for cutting ceramic, porcelain, and other types of tiles. They feature a diamond-coated blade and a water reservoir to keep the blade cool and minimize dust. Tile saws come in tabletop and handheld versions, with tabletop saws offering more stability for larger projects.

    • Masonry Saw: Masonry saws are used for cutting through hard materials like bricks, concrete blocks, and stone. They often have a specialized abrasive blade that can withstand the toughness of masonry materials. Tabletop masonry saws are preferred for their stability and accuracy in cutting masonry products.

  2. Key Features:

    • Blade Adjustability: Most tabletop saws allow you to adjust the depth and angle of the blade to make different types of cuts.

    • Safety Features: Many tabletop saws come with safety features like blade guards, anti-kickback mechanisms, and emergency shut-off switches to protect the user.

    • Dust Collection: Some models are equipped with dust collection systems to keep the workspace clean and reduce respiratory hazards.

    • Rip Fence and Miter Gauge: These accessories help ensure accurate and straight cuts by guiding the workpiece along the blade.

  3. Applications:

    • Tabletop saws are used in a wide range of applications, including ripping and cross-cutting wood, cutting tiles for flooring and walls, and shaping masonry materials for construction projects.
  4. Portability:

    • Many tabletop saws are portable and can be easily transported to job sites or different locations within a workshop.
  5. Maintenance:

    • Regular maintenance, such as keeping the blade sharp, lubricating moving parts, and cleaning the saw, is essential to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.
  6. Accessories:

    • Depending on the type of tabletop saw, various accessories like different blades, stands, and extension tables may be available to enhance the saw's functionality.

In summary, tabletop saws are versatile power tools that offer stability and precision for cutting tasks. They come in different types, including table saws, tile saws, and masonry saws, each tailored to specific materials and applications. Proper maintenance and safety precautions are important when using these tools to ensure both efficiency and safety.

Rockwell BladeRunner X2 Portable Tabletop Saw with Steel Rip Fence, Miter Gauge, and 7 Accessories – RK7323

Rockwell

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The Rockwell BladeRunner X2 Portable Tabletop Saw is the solution to the problem of having to take materials back to the workshop to cut them, and then bring them back to the job site later on. If you’re a contractor, you know that that process can add an entire day to a project. The BladeRunner is only 15 lbs, so while stable and sturdy, it’s easy to toss in the back of the truck. And with a footprint of only 15.75” x 17”, it doesn’t take up an entire workbench like traditional table saws. The hold-down guard and splitter allow for work with wider materials, and a larger rip fence than other portable table saws provides better control and accurate cuts. A no-load speed of 3000/min, a stroke length of ¾”, with 5.5 amps of power gives it the capacity for light to moderate cutting of wood (up to 1-1/2”), ceramic tile (3/8”), PVC pipe (1-1/4”), aluminum (3/8”), and steel (1/8”). (Anything over 1-1/2” and you’re probably going to need a traditional, permanently fixed tabletop saw—but you can’t take that to the job site.) The blades change out almost instantly, in under 3 seconds once you get the hang of the tool-less blade change system. And the saw is protected by a Rockwell 3-year limited warranty, so you know they stand behind their tools.

  • [SETS UP IN SECONDS] Take this table saw to the job site or move it around the workshop. There’s even a built-in carry handle
  • [CUTS LIKE A FULL-SIZE] With the standard guard and riving knife system you can perform rip, cross, scroll, and miter cuts
  • [TOOL-LESS BLADE CHANGE] Uses any brand’s standard 4” T-shank blade, but we threw 5 in the box to get you started cutting wood, ceramic tile, plastic, aluminum, and metal
  • [0-60° MITER CUTS] With the adjustable gauge you can pull off precise miter cuts for a whole assortment of woodworking projects
  • [ON-BOARD ACCESSORY STORAGE] When the miter gauge, rip fence, and extra blades aren’t in use they can be conveniently housed in the base of the saw
  • [SAFETY SWITCH] Prevents accidental starting, plus the vacuum port lets you hook up a shop vac that cleans while you cut

User questions & answers

Question: Can i mount the axtra 8-outlet power strip on the table saw
Answer: We do not recommend modifications on our tools as they are designed to work as is. If you are meaning plugging it in to a 8 outlet powers strip: that is not recommended. This unit should be plug into a direct outlet of using the appropriate extension cord ( VOLTS, LENGTH and WIRE GAUGE)
Question: What are the dimensions of the unit on the stand when closed up. WxHxD? Need to know if it will fit in the storage cubby I have in the garage
Answer: Laid down flat - 27 1/2" wide, 46" long (you can take about 3" off this by using the shorter handle length slots), 25" high with rail on (21 1/2" with it off). You can stand it up or lay it down - either works.
Question: Does this saw accept dado blade set
Answer: Yes, you will need the Dado Throat Plate which is DeWalt Part Number DWE7402D1. Per DeWalt, do not attempt to stack dado blades thicker than 13/16" (20 mm). Do not use dado blades larger than 8" (200 mm) diameter. Since dado cuts are not thru-cuts, the cuts must be performed with the blade guard assembly removed. To remove the blade guard assembly, pull riving knife/blade guard release lever and pull up on the guard or riving knife to remove. When using the dado, the special dado insert (also sold as an accessory) must be used.
Question: How good would this saw be for a beginning woodworker on a limited budget
Answer: It's a great saw. It has some safety features that I love. If you have a limited budget I would recommend that you stave for a couple of days and buy this saw. It is bulky and it's gonna cost you a little over $600 out the door but it's worth it. Remember when buying tools try to buy the best you can find. You don't want a cheap tool to stop working in the middle of the day.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the current model that is shipping type 1 or type 20. If you look up the parts diagram the type 20 has a different slide mechanism part number
Answer: I bought a new one today from a lumberyard and it is a Type 1. (says right on the sticker on the motor) Not sure if that means the slide mechanism is better or worse than the Type 20. I would assume it was made in 2014 because there is a "Dewalt use only" tag on the box which starts with 2014. Not sure if a "fresher" saw is a Type 20
Question: Can xps be added, i know dewalt makes a kit to add it to some saws, but this model was not listed
Answer: mmToolparts actually sells a kit (3 proprietary DeWalt parts + their wiring harness) for less than $70. They have videos on their website that show how to install the parts on DW716, DWS779, and DWS782 saws. You will need some additional tools (torx screw drivers or torx bits, wire strippers/cutter/crimper) and somewhat mechanically inclined. Just google "DWS779 xps light kit" and they should be the top result. This might be an easier option versus going to a DeWalt service center in the post pandemic world.
Question: Does this miter saw come with a laser or any guiding system
Answer: It does not come with any laser for guidance. You may find my answer a bit crude, I've been using miter saws for many years and the best guiding system I found to work is my/your eyes. Having lasers or no lasers you still need to use your eyes to get the work piece spot on near the cutoff point. Hope this helps!
Question: Is there an LED cut line
Answer: You can add the LED light to this saw. Not a laser but a shadow light that show exactly where the saw blade will cut. I just did it last night. Parts can be had for about $70. This basically turns it into a model 780 which is much more expensive. Pretty simple to add.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the pinless adapter upgraded in this model
Answer: Yes
Question: What’s the difference between this and the
Answer: The difference is toolless or tooled blade changes. That's the only difference I found in the 2 units.
Question: What blades are you all using
Answer: I use spiral blades which, unlike regular flat blades, you can cut by pushing and pulling your piece being cut.
Question: I am new to scroll saws so have to ask. Is it worth the $40 difference in price for the 3921 over the 3920 and why
Answer: this model(3921) replaces the 3920, they added a few features and the pinless clamps to the mix. the price difference is for the design changes and the extra pieces they add. 3921 is better than the 3920 when you count in the extra features.
Question: does it come with sand paper
Answer: Ours didn't. But just cut a full sheet in half and half again. Love how well it works.
Question: is it ok to use on an old desk? I am concerned about the circar pattern of this sander, I won't be able to follow the grain of the wood
Answer: It's a small orbit, about 1/16", like a vibration. For $30 give it a try. If you use fine paper on the last pass and move the sander in the directionof the grain, should be ok. I think it's agreat little tool.
Question: What about the cutted sections in the sandpaper
Answer: Hi, Put the sandpaper section on the sander. The sander came with a black square item that has spikes. Push the sander over the spikes and the holes in the sandpaper will appear. Also the holes are only needed if you want to collect the dust in the bag. I do not use the collection bag.
Question: Where do I find refills online for the 1/4 sheet
Answer: What is "Full Sized Sheet"? , I see 8 1/2 x 11 and 8 x 10.

User questions & answers

Question: I am building a panel saw and need a circular saw with an auto on switch. Does this saw have that ability
Answer: use the switch at the power plug and zip tie it the trigger.
Question: What is the wattage
Answer: With an AC motor you can't calculate the wattage by multiplying the voltage by the current (amperage). I won't get into a technical explanation but the peaks in the AC current are delayed from the peaks in the AC voltage. The wattage is equal to the volts X amps X a power factor, which is always less than one. That said, the wattage is really only of interest with respect to how much electricity your're billed for. You need to consider the current to determine whether you are overloading your wiring. The 15 amp specification would be when it reaches it's maximum load. I haven't measured this saw but my 15-amp rated table saw draws 8 amps with no load. I don't really have the means to measure it safely at full load.
Question: Can the laser be adjusted by the user if it doesn't line up out of the box
Answer: There is an adjuster toward the back of the laser- a 3/32 allen key can adjust it left or right. Mine moved a bit, probably from the vibration of the saw. I was able to easily adjust it back to straight.
Question: Does this cut accurately? I bought a cheaper Skil and the cut was off by 1/4" at the base. The laser was off the same too
Answer: I made some straight cuts in 2" x 4" s and the laser was right on.

User questions & answers

Question: how thick will this cut
Answer: I would say 1:4, if you are cutting porcelain that thick take it slow, natural stone will cut easier. I highly recommend this saw, I use it for small jobs, it’s really great in tight spaces. In my opinion it’s the better of the smaller wet saws as I prefer a rolling table for more accurate cuts. I however use an MK on my bigger jobs and large format tile and stone and it’s a beast with no limitations but cost about 10x what this saw cost. I do a lot of baths and kitchens and I love it!
Question: Alway problems substituting other brand blades - and can't find PC replacement blades - can anyone confirm good to excellent substitute
Answer: I've tried several after market blades with this saw. The problem I've experienced is the original PC blade produces a slightly wider cut, allowing the tile to get past the guard support in the back. The blades I've tried produce a thinner cut that prevent the tile from passing around the guard support. I'll try the Pearl P4 7 inch to see if it works, although 50$ is a gamble I'd rather not bet on.
Question: Can this saw cut glass tiles
Answer: It can cut glass but without buying a blade specifically for glass tiles you might be disappointed. Every tile installer I know has several different blades always on hand for the abundance of materials thrown at him. Glass Master is a good glass blade and manual cutters often do excellent. With the stock blade you will get some chipping along the cut. Which could be polished out with extra effort. If you can handle chipping go for it.
Question: Does this saw do miter cuts? Can you angle the blade, or the table
Answer: Yes, this table saw does simple mitre cuts. The blade is fixed. The table is fixed (does not angle for a compound mitre cut). The product is positioned on the (right) cutting cart that feeds the tile to the blade. The saw comes with a miter square for basic angle cuts.
