Answer:	The OD measurement of the barbs on the suction/inlet nipple of the gun is 1/2". The ID of my suction hose is maybe 5/8", it secured by a hose clamp. I like the heft and quality of the tips on this gun, as they are heaver than my on my old gun. Hope this helps!

Answer:	Yes you can get the string off, I haven't used my mine in a while but if my memory serves me right. I think the compass was ineffective from the start.
