User questions & answers
Question: | Is it true that the hammer is only "positive placement" for nails up to 2.5" long |
Answer: | Yes, pp tip for nails up to 2.5" in length. Framing tip for up to 3.5" |
Question: | How is it powered? Is it pneumatic or battery operated and/or use compressed gas cylinders |
Answer: | It is pneumatic. I've been using a 6 gal Campbell Hausfeld compressor with 1/4" quick disconnects at about 90 - 100 psi for metal connectors and 16d nails and have never run out of air. I bought it mainly for the metal connector ability, which it does great, but is also great for down to 6d nails. Just turn down the pressure on the smaller nails. |
Question: | Is it difficult to find nails for this hammer |
Answer: | Metal connector nails need to be larger around to fit properly in the holes and have the shear strength. If the nail is longer than 2-1/2 inches the gun will not fire by design. I can only find the 1-1/2 21 degree nails on Amazon and Home Depot online. They are expensive, but surprisingly, I tried some 33 degree 1-1/2 inch nails in this gun and it fires normal. I don't see any wear as a result either. I would not try this with longer 33 degree nails because they would angle out of reach of the driver. The gun out performs my old Senco SN60 by a large margin, is lighter, but about an inch taller. |
Question: | What is the difference between a round head and a clipped head nailer |
Answer: | The round head is the traditional type nail you would find in a box or bin of nails. The clipped head is the round head clipped off to the width of the nail shank on two sides--does not had the holding power of the round head. |

Choosing a Pneumatic Nailer
For small household jobs, an old-fashioned hammer is the perfect stand-by. But if you've got a bigger project on your to-do list, then a pneumatic power nailer could be your new best friend. Pneumatic nailers are a great alternative to traditionally powered nailers, because they're capable of providing more power -- and they operate with fewer moving parts, so a pneumatic nailer can take more abuse than its corded or battery-run cousins.
A Word on Air Compressors
All pneumatic tools require a steady supply of controlled, compressed air in order to work properly, and nailers are no exception. Bigger compressors with hardy motors and large tanks generate higher PSI levels and maintain them longer, so you'll probably want a piston-type, two-stage compressor to power your nailer. Smaller or single-stage models are fine for little projects, but if you need a pneumatic nailer, the odds are good that you're looking for some intense PSI and CFM ratings. Sometimes, a pneumatic nailer will come with its own compressor -- or it can be purchased as part of an air tool set.
How Pneumatic Nailers Work
Pneumatic nailers use compressed air power to cock and release the hammer. In order to fire a fastener, a valve opens to let air fill a cylinder -- which has a piston that's driven down hard and fast. This forces the nail out of the gun and into your workpiece. Then the piston recoils, and another nail is loaded.
Important Points to Consider
Check manufacturer's guidelines to find out what pressure (PSI) and volume (CFM) of air will give your pneumatic nailer the best results. Also, keep in mind that any restrictions on the air hose will diminish the tool's performance. Hoses that are very long, contain too much moisture, or are incorrectly sized will reduce air flow. This can prematurely wear out your tool and cause it to perform poorly.
General Features
Most models will feature a rubber nosepiece to prevent scuffing and marring of your workpieces, plus an exhaust system (rear or adjustable) to keep sawdust and debris out of your face and away from your project. Pneumatic nailers usually have an adjustable depth of drive, and depending on the model, they can accommodate nails up to 2-1/2 inches long, in a variety of different gauge sizes. With a powerful enough compressor behind them, they can shoot thousands of nails a day.

- Patented push button adjustable depth guide sets nails to desired depths quickly and easily
- Lightweight magnesium design; aggressive wear guards to protect the tool from damage on abrasive surfaces

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the difference between his one and the $519 one. they have the same n89c-1 number |
Answer: | MADE IN CHINA I just bought these because I thought they were not made in China. They are made in China not Germany. |
Question: | I am building a fence and Need to drive galvanized 13 gauge 2-2.5 inch nails into cedar pickets, will nailer work? Thank you |
Answer: | No they are not adjustable. These were bought for my wife and they just fit her and I would say she has an average head. |
Question: | Does anyone know if I can use this gun for lap siding? Blind nailing |
Answer: | The tactical sports cost me $150 when I got and after 2 years stopped working. Peltor wanted over $100 to fix them. These cost less and still work after 2 years. |
Question: | what compressor to buy for this tool? please advice (for framing |
Answer: | I just did my first range shooting today. I was able to borrow a pair of these cups. I wear glasses. I had absolutely NO problems with the seal letting in extraneous noise. Even with 30dB of reduction, the noise is still quite loud, but not enough that your ears will be damaged, or even be ringing, when your shooting day ends. I just put in my order for a pair of them. Highly recommended! |

User questions & answers
Question: | do they make a case for the framing nailer |
Answer: | it's a strong nailer, in that it drive a nail into most anything, it holds a lot of nails, but you have no control at the gun over thedepth of the nail. Its a "good" nailer , but there are better |
Question: | Does it work with Hitachi 1 1/2" nails |
Answer: | My guess is no. the nails are to short for the holding area, plus the heads on the roof nails are to large for the track.the power of the n80 would blow the nail through the material. A roof gun has much less power. |
Question: | From the listing: "This extraordinary design drives framing nails between 2 inches and 3-1/2 inches in length (.113-.162)."? Is this right |
Answer: | I don't know but I do know they are worth the money!!!! My computer makes a "high" pitch sound that drives me crazy and these headphones block that sound!!! Love them! |
Question: | Does this tool accommodate a161.x 3 1/2 nail |
Answer: | I'm sure the muffs will reduce or muffle the sound. I purchased them to use at the firing range. The noise is not completely blocked but the muffs sure help. |

The product is Coil Frame Nailer. Easy to use. The product is manufactured in Taiwan.
A popular model among builders who work on high-repetition projects like trusses and prefabricated frames, Bostitch's utility coil nailer offers huge capacity and solid reliability. When fully loaded, this nailer certainly isn't the lightest tool you could choose, but when you can drive 300 nails without having to reload, you quickly appreciate the timesaving capacity. With its aluminum housing and composite canister, this gun is a tough piece of equipment, designed to hold up to bumps and falls--the inevitable beating nailers take on a job site. The nailer's aggressive teeth easily grip lumber for toe-nailing. An adjustable deflector conveniently directs exhaust away from the user, and a quick-release canister makes loading new coils a snap. We were impressed with how solid the whole unit feels--it has the burliness of an industrial-strength machine. This model shoots 1-1/2- to 3-1/4-inch, 15-degree, wire-weld-collated, full-head nails, and weighs just over 8 pounds empty. Note: this model does not have adjustable drive depth. --Jonathon Tudor

User questions & answers
Question: | can someone explain why the canister adjusts up to 4" nails but, it can only handle up to 3 1/4" nails |
Answer: | With a noise reduction rating of 21, as compared to the 22 of the popular Peltor TAC 100 model, the RangeGuard offers solid, consistent hearing protection. If you're shooting indoors, using an extremely high caliber weapon, or are surrounded by a significant amount of gunfire, your hearing may be compromised. Outdoor protection is excellent, and under most circumstances you are assured of being fully protected. After over 100 hours of use with the RangeGuard (both indoors and outdoors with a wide variety of firearms), I never experienced any kind of noteworthy shortcomings in the noise reduction of the model. As stated, under some circumstances you may feel the audio coming in a bit louder than you'd like, but the average gun owner will never need a stronger model. |
Question: | Can I use it for solid hardwood flooring |
Answer: | Yes, very easily. They even amplify sounds and make them easier to hear (but not loud noises like gunshots). They have a microphone on each earpiece so you can easily distinguish where sounds are coming from. |
Question: | Is this a good framing nailer |
Answer: | They'll only "work" if you turn them off. As someone who actually owns these headphones, no - they will not work for lawn mowers. Unless, of course, you turn them off, in which case you're paying a premium for muffs with a microphone and speakers in them. The headphones pick up all outside noise using two forward-facing microphones so that you can "hear" while you're wearing them. The cutoff circuit only engages when it picks up a sudden, sharp noise - like a gunshot, an air nailer, or a hammer blow. Continuous loud noises such as heavy equipment, power tools, saws, airplanes, etc... do not trigger the cutoff and in many instances can *amplify* the noise. |
Question: | Will this fit 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" roofing nails |
Answer: | These are teal the others are camo green. That's about it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What size air fitting does this nailer use |
Answer: | The main differences are Size and Noise Reduction. The Sport model has a noise reduction rating of 22dbThe PRO model has a Noise reduction rating of 30dbBecause of extra noise reduction provided by the PRO version, they have a much larger profile. The larger size COULD be in the way if your using them with a rifle, if you use a handgun, the size should not be an issue. In my personal opinion if the larger "bulk" is not an issue then go for the maximum protection you can get!Your hearing will thank you! |
Question: | This seems like a good deal! Whats wrong with the Gun |
Answer: | NO. I think some are having trouble understanding the concept. The sound will be reduced by the same amount with the unit turned on or off. That's passive unlike active like noise-cancelling muffs like Bose. When turned on, it will amplify sound below 82db. (A busy street is more than 82db) Anything below 82db, like a range instructor's commands, will be amplified and you can turn the volume all the way up and leave it their. When a sound is above the cutoff of 82db, like a gunshot, the mics will shut off and go back into passive mode until the sound drops below the cutoff, and then go back to amplified mode. The mics will never amplify a sound greater than the cutoff of 82db. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Will this gun shot 4" ring shanks? Looking to use it to attach 2x6 girts to laminated posts. Was looking at the fasco jumbo nailer but like the price |
Answer: | I can fit them under a large size ACH. I usually where a mediun ACH. They get pushed down a little bit but there is still enough movement to get a cheek weld. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this coil nailer shoot nails with a 3/8" head |
Answer: | Yes, the RN46-1 will shoot roofing nails with a 3/8" head...I think all standard roofing nails have a 3/8" head so any of them from 3/4" to 1 3/4" length should work fine... kd |
Question: | can this gun be used to nail hardie siding |
Answer: | I wouldn't. This gun can only shoot up to 1 3/4" roofing nails. If it were me, I'd get a siding gun and shoot some longer ring shank nails |
Question: | Is this new gun |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does it come with any type of warranty besides the one that is being offered |
Answer: | I would check with the seller you plan to purchase from. It varies, depending on the seller. Some may offer 30-day warranties and others may only pass along manufacturer's warranty information. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there an advantage with this nailer over the bostitch cordless nailer that takes the paper tape nails? I am trying to decide which one to buy |
Answer: | I have been very happy with mine. Used to put true 2 inch oak planks down on a barn floor. Nails are pricey but worked way better then trying to fasten them with screws.. |
Question: | Will this work with full round nails |
Answer: | We used it to shoot 51/4 inch nails with no problem at all. Great tool |
Question: | Any chance dewalt 20v batteries fit this gun |
Answer: | If you look near the tip, where the next nail is waiting to be fired, there is only room for a 3 1/4" nail at best. Mine is loaded with 3" now and there's about 3/8" gap below that. You might be able to fit 3 1/2" nails if you machined off some material. But at that point just get a gun that will accommodate longer nails. |
Question: | Will this drive a nail thru 3/8" thick lp smart siding. (hardboard siding)? how many amp hour battery and how long it last? thanks |
Answer: | No, this is a framing nailer |
Product description
Metal connector nailer, drives galvanized, hardened, 1-1/2 inch metal connector nails, nails come in .131 0R .148 shank diameters, tool weight is 4.6 lbs. compact design 12 inch OC joists, comes with carrying case.
Todays homes are stronger than ever. More knowledgeable homeowners, natural disasters, and stricter building codes have led the industry to adopt better ways of building houses. One important result of this has been the massive rise in the use of metal connectors. These metal connectors, whether it is in the form of a hurricane tie, joist hanger, or stud plate tie are used to strengthen the weaker joint areas of a home. Their popularity has given rise to a new necessity on the jobsite, the nailer to attach all of these metal connectors.
The Bostitch STRAPSHOT Metal Connector Nailer (MCN-150) is the perfect tool for all types of metal connectors. Its exposed nail tip places the fastener point directly into connector holes for a faster, more precise application. It has a built in safety that prevents the tool from firing when not placed properly into the connector hole. The Bostitch STRAPSHOT Metal Connector Nailer (MCN-150) drives 1-1/2-inch, 35 degree Paper Tape Metal Connector Nails to secure any type of metal connector plate. These nails come specially hardened to ensure that if there is a misfire it can still drive through the metal connector plate safely.
One of the features that set the Bostitch STRAPSHOT Metal Connector Nailer (MCN-150) apart from similar nailers is its size. Its compact design fits easily into hard to reach spaces including 12 inches on center studs (MCN150 only 10-1/2 inches tall). The tool is up to 50% lighter than competitive models for reduced fatigue and added maneuverability. The in line magazine also helps maneuverability by fitting into corners easily. Its low nail lockout feature prevents jams by preventing cycling with less than 5 nails for added safety. The tool also comes with hardened steel wear guards to protect the tool and adjustable exhaust to conveniently direct air away from the user. Finally, Bostitch has included a carrying case and our exclusive 7-Year Limited Warranty.
- Exposed nail tip places fastener point directly into connector holes for a faster, more precise application
- Drives 1 1/2 inch straps hot fasteners as well as all other paper tape collated metal connector nails
- At 4.6 pounds, The tool is up to 50 percent lighter than competitive models
User questions & answers
Question: | Does it still come with the rafter/belt hook? Photo shows no hook and other questions regarding this are almost 3 years old |
Answer: | I've only used the BOSTITCH PT-MC14815-1M 1 1/2-Inch x .148 Paper Tape Collated Metal Connector Nails (1,000 per Box) as found on Amazon. They are black, not silver. Haven't tried any others. |
Question: | what brands of nails will fit in the MCN |
Answer: | This nailer is built to do a specific task. Attach metal ties. If you need to do siding I would suggest buying a siding gun. |
Question: | Can you use this nailer with Hardi Plank siding driving 1.1/2” nails |
Answer: | You may need to but use the mcn-250 for the toe nails on the hangers. those are 2 1/2 inches as required by code and also wherever 2 1/2 inch ones are needed. the model 250 accepts 1 1/2 inch as well so you might only but one gun I find having both far better because you can have a second installer working there are far too many nails to install in all these tecos. get it on go go go |
Question: | Can this be used for deck joist hangers and hurricane straps? Is there enough nail selection to insure I find what will meet code? Thanks |
Answer: | I have those nails and they are indeed "clip" headed, which means that the head is round, but is offset from the center of the nail. It will work just fine. |
