14 best jet dust collector
A jet dust collector is a piece of equipment used in woodworking shops, manufacturing facilities, and other industrial settings to improve air quality by capturing and filtering airborne dust and debris generated during various processes. Here's what you need to know about jet dust collectors:
Purpose: The primary purpose of a jet dust collector is to remove fine dust particles and other contaminants from the air, thereby maintaining a cleaner and healthier working environment. It helps prevent the inhalation of dust by workers and reduces the risk of dust-related health issues.
How It Works: A jet dust collector operates by creating a powerful airflow that captures dust particles suspended in the air. This airflow is typically generated by a high-powered fan or blower. The dust-laden air is drawn into the collector through an inlet, where it passes through a series of filters or collection bags. These filters trap the dust particles, while the filtered air is expelled back into the workspace or discharged outside.
Filtration Systems: Jet dust collectors often employ multiple filtration stages to ensure efficient dust removal.Common filtration systems include:
- Primary Filters: These initial filters capture larger particles to prevent them from reaching the finer secondary filters.
- Secondary Filters: These filters capture smaller dust particles, ensuring that the air is thoroughly cleaned.
- HEPA Filters: Some advanced jet dust collectors use High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters to capture very fine particles, making them suitable for environments where strict air quality standards are required.
Collection Capacity: Jet dust collectors come in various sizes and capacities to accommodate different levels of dust production. The choice of collector size depends on the specific needs of the application and the volume of dust generated.
Cleaning Mechanisms: Dust collectors may include mechanisms to clean or shake the filters or collection bags to dislodge accumulated dust, improving their efficiency and extending their lifespan.
Portable vs. Stationary: Jet dust collectors can be either portable or stationary. Portable models are easier to move around and are often used for smaller woodworking tools, while stationary models are designed to be permanently installed and are suitable for larger industrial processes.
Noise and Power: Jet dust collectors can be noisy due to the powerful fans or blowers they use. They require a source of electricity to operate, and the power requirements vary depending on the size and capacity of the unit.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keep a jet dust collector operating effectively. This includes cleaning or replacing filters, emptying collection bags or bins, and inspecting the system for any issues.
In summary, a jet dust collector is a vital piece of equipment for industries and workshops where dust and airborne contaminants are generated. It plays a crucial role in maintaining air quality and protecting the health of workers by capturing and filtering out these particles from the workspace.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone know why this the prefilter is described as "electrostatic." There appears to be no electrodes or DC voltage supplies internally |
Answer: | Here's the answer to how electrostatic filters work (from eHow.com) -- "The secret to the electrostatic air filter's effectiveness is the polyurethane and polypropylene blends used in the filtering material. The fibers have been formulated so that when air passes by them, they generate strong static charges. Separate layers of filtration material also receive opposite charges (positive and negative). Since positively charged particles are attracted to surfaces with negative static charges and vice versa, the filtration media can actually attract airborne particles like a magnet and hold on to them until the filter is cleaned. When a particle of dust, mold, fungi or any other airborne matter comes from the HVAC system and through the ducts toward the filter, it first passes through a synthetic filter layer with a positive static charge. This positive charge gets transferred to the airborne particle. Then the particle passes through a layer with a negative charge, and it is attracted to that layer's surface. The more layers of oppositely-charged filtration media there are in the filter, the more effectively it can prevent airborne particles from entering the room." |
Question: | It says must be mounted 7feet off floor. Is this just for safety? Are is it for proper operating of unit |
Answer: | I never saw a notice to mount it a minimum of 7 feet off the floor. Mine is mounted about 1.5 feet down from a 10 foot ceiling so with the height of the unit makes it about 7+ feet off the floor. It is mounted over a workbench so there is no danger of hitting it with work pieces moving around, but it seems like the right height for the unit. I would think that you could mount it at any height that would make sure you don't hit it with moving your work pieces around. As for operating the unit, it seems to me that the closer you can place it to the source of dust and airborne particulates, is the best place to mount it. |
Question: | My shop is 27x27 with 20 ft ceilings. Will this unit filter the air efficiently in such a large space |
Answer: | Could not say for sure but a couple of comments to possibly make it more effective. if you could possibly hang the unit well down from the 20 foot ceiling and position equipment that generates significant dust in closer proximity that should compensate for the large space. I have not put my unit to the test so far to give you a better feel for cleaning capacity but my 13 X 14 shop opens up to a basement storage area o that would make it a similar size to a 27X27 with about a 9 ft ceiling. So far I have not noticed any excessive dust in the storage area but again i have not really pushed it enough to be conclusive. |
Question: | Is it better to hang this unit from the ceiling against a wall or hang it centrally located? I don't know which position will have a "better" airflow |
Answer: | I have several of these and I could not disagree more about a central location install. Put this where you create most dust PERIOD. The main dust created from your work should be able to easily float right up into to the air scrubber, If that's your miter station you set it right over the miter station. This gets hung from the ceiling not on a wall. If you place this in the center of the shop or room it's going to try to pull that dust to the center of room and there may not be any dust ether to begin with why pull dust through the shop if you dont have to?I have one over my Miter station, one over my Band Saw and the third larger unit in the center of the shop. But if I only had one air scrubber that thing would be wherever the majority of my dust is made, not just in the center or in an arbitrary corner. And always by a few smaller units than one large unit, I made that mistake initally. If you can afford the big version of this just get two of these smaller units and put each one over the ares you create the most dust. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the measured decible rating for this machine |
Answer: | Haven't measured it myself, but pretty quiet for such a large machine. According to User guide, it's 76dB @ 3 meters. Mine is closer than that in most use cases, and definitely seems louder than the spec. |
Question: | Does anyone see fine dust that is getting thru the filter |
Answer: | Yes I have 4 of these And dust is escaping from the accordion attachment to the lid. I have not had these a year and I have to now order the new accordion replacements and all four and having trouble finding the plastic bags that attached to the overflow filter. |
Question: | Can you put a bag in the 30 gallon drum |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Is 2 hp sufficent for planner, table saw, jointer and sander or i buy 3 hp ? Any advise will be higly appriciated |
Answer: | I have the 2 hp system with short 12 ft of 6in with 45 drops off to 4" metal duct and 4" hose. i run this on 2 cnc machines and have no issue with it having plenty of velocity. with 2 * 4" open, i'm measuring over 100 ft/s no issue moving lots of material. little noisy at that air flow. if you are running more stuff or longer runs, I might go to the 3hp, but the 2hp is very good. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the impeller plastic or metal |
Answer: | Sorry, no they do not, but I bought a cheap simple piezo buzzer from radio shack & a chrome switch & soldered it onto the board for sound, not the greatest buzzer but it works, I recently re-sold 2 of these on ebay because we prefer the Mel Meter with shadow detector built in & the cheaper Ghost Meter, they work much better after we've used all 3 for years, that's why we sold the k-2 it just got famous because they use it on Tv, but the Ghost meter has nice sound & looks good, not the Pro version of Ghost Meter, they kinda ruined it with that version, but just the plain old Ghost Meter, if you have the money spend a $100 on the mel meter if you have more get it with the shadow detector built in, it's works great, |
Question: | Does the W1826 come with the cannister filter? The pictures for this item show it both with and without it. The description is equally vague |
Answer: | I have had answers to questions. This is a research tool. What you do with the research is up to you. Since nobody has able to prove the tangible existence of ghosts, you have to kind of decide for yourself whether or not you've found ghosts. BUT, if it isn't ghost, it sure is SOMETHING strange because EMF is static doesn't behave like the readings you'll get. Maybe if you get one, YOU'll be he one who can prove what it is or isn't. |
Question: | Is a cyclone-type separator recommended with this unit, or is it not needed |
Answer: | Actually, this little meter has been around for a long time; only recently coming into fashion for "ghost hunting" expeditions. It can be used by electricians, plumbers heating and air people, burglar alarm companies, etc. in the fields of home building, protecting or repair. Look it up online with the query - "official uses for K-II EMF meter" and this should better answer your question. |
Question: | could this be hooked up to a cyclone for better performance |
Answer: | I am not sure - I will check with a friend of mine and see what he has to say as He is more knowledgeable on these things. and get back to you if you would like. |

User questions & answers
Question: | whAT IS CORDED ELECTRIC |
Answer: | "Corded" is an electrical equipment term that denotes the equipment has a cord as apposed to being hard wired to an electrical junction box and no wiring is supplied with the equipment. The cord will have a plug to allow the equipment to be disconnected from the electrical source. A hard wired equipment system has it's electrical wiring run through armor cable or conduit to protect the wiring in an industrial environment. The conduit/armor cable is attached to a junction box or directly to a disconnect to allow power to the equipment to be turned off for maintenance. The disconnect will also have a way to Lock-out the switch to assure that the power is not accidentally turned back on while maintenance is being performed. Often used with industrial equipment, these disconnects are required by OSHA as a means to prevent injury and may have internal fuses sized for the equipment load requirement. An example or a hard wired piece of equipment in a residential setting would be the compressor unit for your HVAC. The disconnect here may have fuses and a pull out disconnect that can be removed while the air conditioning technician is working on the equipment. There is no plug or cord and this equipment is referred to as "Hard Wired" and not "Corded". Probably much more information that you may want but for us that deal with electrical equipment, the distinction tells me the option of how I could be setting up the equipment. However, it is only an option. In an industrial setting, I may chose to hard wire the equipment which makes it fixed to a location but protects the wiring from damage. |
Question: | What is the height of the dust collector |
Answer: | It is 62" to top of filter cleaning handle. |
Question: | Does this come with any attachment |
Answer: | No you still need the hoses and attachments Good unit Mine didn't come with the bag clip so I called jet They said I had to go thru amazon |
Question: | Has anyone used this with a drum sander? Is the air flow high enough for this? Operating only one toool at a time |
Answer: | I don't have a drum sander, but I have a spindle CNC router that can produce a lot of sawdust and it keeps up with that nicely. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what size dust collector are you using? I want this for the 1.5 HP Delta |
Answer: | I'm using this on the Jet DC 1100 VX which is a 1.5 HP collector and it has performed very well. |
Question: | Does the remote go through walls |
Answer: | A 2 X 6" wall would indicate that it is an outside wall which could have foil backed insulation. If it is foil backed, the foil will most likely block the radio waves. If the wall has a 120 electric outlet plug: remove the face plate and look for foil showing at edge of electric box. You could also mount the Remote Control in the tool room and then run the dust collector power cord through the wall to the Remote Control Unit located in tool room. |
Question: | Will this work with a 2 hp dust collector |
Answer: | If it 115 volt plug in 2hp then it should work. Check your spec.s first. It works well but does seem at times to be line of sight in order to turn on and off. If you have big equipment between you and the box it might not work. I am happy with it and would buy again |
Question: | Could i use something like a $23 kasa smart plug instead? what does this do better |
Answer: | I doubt that any of the smart plugs currently available, especially at that price, would be able to withstand the inrush current that a 1.5HP motor causes. My Delta 50-850 Dust Collector has a 1.5HP motor and even the JET remote that is rated for a 1.5HP motor failed on the first start. Maybe there are 1.5HP motors on some other branded dust collectors that have a lower inrush current but i haven't been able to determine what would actually work. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Filter size, height width in inches |
Answer: | Big, don’t know why filter size matters when it’s 99% effective and NOBODY is going to take it off to vent it outside - if you did that why did you buy it in the first place |
Question: | Bought this unit, and was wondering if you can run it without the bag in the main chip collection drum |
Answer: | The manual never run without the bag. It looks like the bag is on the suction side so if there is a small leak in the drum you could loose suction but probably not much. I always use a bag with mine. |
Question: | I have 4 inch ports on most of my mschines. I plan on running 6" mains with 4 inch drops. Is this the right size dust collector for that |
Answer: | Yes it is the right size for sure.you can even start with 8" run for 20-25' reduce to 6" run for another25' then split to 4-5 ducts 4".i got six machines hoked up to this collector and all ducts are open at the same time and trust me it works really good.i am sure you will be happy with this one |
Question: | What is overall assembled height of unit |
Answer: | It is about 7 feet |

Many of the design features of the DC-1200VX-BK3 allow for straightforward and expedient use. The totally enclosed, fan-cooled, 2-horsepower motor is rated for continuous duty with plentiful horsepower for efficient air movement, while the precision-balanced, all-steel impeller maximizes air intake. The see-through dust bag helps prevent premature bag change-outs, and the sewn-in snap ring makes for rapid insertion and removal. Plus, four heavy-duty casters make for easy mobility around the workshop.
Benefits Behind the Technology
First and foremost, the Vortex Cone technology eliminates filter clogging, which in turn improves ease of use, strengthens performance quality, and extends the lifespan of the machine. It dramatically advances chip-separation efficiency in single-stage dust collectors, and it aids quick fallout of chips into the collector bag. Fewer bag changes are required because of the reduction in violent airflows that increases packing effectiveness.

User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone use this with drain pvc? I am having very little luck keeping this connected in line between two of those said pvc pipes. Any pointers |
Answer: | We have used these Blastgates with metal pipe, and have been very satisfied with their performance. We did use selfthreading sheet metal screws to secure all joints. |
Question: | What is the throw of the 4-inch gate, from stop to stop |
Answer: | I would have to dig it out of the back of a possibles bin to measure it. Suffice it to say that I do not have it installed because it leaks too much air. The valve does not close as tightly as the black plastic one that I use now. Whatever you use, I suggest that if it is horizontal, you mount it with the valve slide pointed down since dust adn chips will gather in teh channel that holds the gate of any such valve. Sawdust in that chanel keeps the valve from closing completely. That said, the plastic one shuts tightly when mounted with the slide top down. |
Question: | are these 4 inch? Listing doesn't say |
Answer: | Yes, 4 inches...almost. Loose fit on most hoses but clamps make up the gap. Some gorilla type tape helps if needed. I have had no problems with them. |
Question: | Does this have mounting brackets for the wall? What secures the stability |
Answer: | It is attached directly to the duct work with hose clamps and acts as an in-line gate to control the vacuum flow to different areas of your shop. The ducting itself is secured to the wall or rafters or wherever in your shop is most appropriate. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it possible to hook this unit up to 120V |
Answer: | No it isn’t. Perhaps a smaller unit with lower HP will fit your needs. |
Question: | Does anyone use a separator before the dust goes into the system |
Answer: | The DC 1200 is a cyclone separator. Theoretically you could link another un-motorized cyclone in a series, but what would be the point? The additional baffle would have to reduce the CFM to some degree. It would remove the possibility of a chunk of material light enough, yet hard enough to get sucked into the impeller and cause damage. Pretty unlikely, although not impossible in a woodworking application. |
Question: | How does the machine react if you use 1 1/2 inch hose on a sander and you are running only the sander. (air flow minimum |
Answer: | Bill,I haven't used the dust collector much since I bought it and don't yet have any experience with a 1-1/2" hose. I have however used it with my radial arm saw. I have a collection hood behind the blade connected with a 4" pipe. Very little blow by, great suction. As I said, my experience with the machine is limited at this time, but what experience I have is really good. I'm excited to use it more. |
Question: | Does this unit have a Remote Control for on/off |
Answer: | No, it does not come with a remote, but one is available from the manufacturer for over $100 or you can purchase remotes from third-party sources. I got this one: PSI Woodworking Products LR220-3 220V Long Ranger Dust Collector Switch through Amazon. You will want a remote - it is just too much hassle to walk over and turn it on and off! This is from the manual: "The DC-RC230 Remote Power Control should be used for activating Dust Collection units powered by 230V only up to 3HP, 1 Phase. The DCRC230 Remote Power Control unit is rated at 230V, Single Phase only. Use an outlet rated at least 20amps. The circuit for the device being controlled by the DC-RC230 should also be protected by at least a 20 amp circuit breaker or fuse." |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this product work with 120v |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | How noisy is this unit |
Answer: | When I was looking for a dust collector, noise was a big factor. I went to a store that had the Jet and two others of similar size and the Jet was clearly the quietest. When I went online it was hard to find decibel ratings but what I did find indicated the Jet was quieter. I have a “shop vac” with 2 1/2” hose and the Jet is much quieter. I still wear hearing projector when I run a saw and the dust collector together. |
Question: | how tall is the unit |
Answer: | Around 5’10” on the rolling base. |
