User questions & answers

Question: what sort of clearance do i need behind the machine if i were to bolt it to a benchtop
Answer: No less than 23inches behind from the back of the base to the wall... and, only to add, this unit MUST be bolted down as it becomes very unstable as motor is moved from (drill) centered position.
Question: Does this drill press have a spindle lock
Answer: If you mean can the spindle be locked to adjust for depth of cut yes. If this answer does not meet your question then I suggest you contact Grizzly. They can answer any question you may have on this machine. Hope this helps
Question: What is the largest distance between holes one could drill without moving the material
Answer: The measurement is simply the distance from the center of the spindle to edge of the column, then doubled. So if you measure 7.5 inches, you have a 15 inch drill press. This is referred to as the swing of the drill press which is the largest diameter piece this drill can handle. Swing on this machine I believe is 34". So if you clamp your project to the drill press table and drill your first hole you have 17" from the post to your spindle to deal with. Hope this helps. If you have any more techie questions call Grizzly they are very helpful in the tech support department.
Question: Can I drill through a 6x6 fir block
Answer: We would recommend you purchase a larger unit for that application. Attempting to drill through a 6"X6" piece of wood would require a larger capacity motor to get you the best results.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the height of this machine from bottom of base to the highest point ? paraplegic trying to build custom stand for this - thanks in advance for
Answer: Verticle (Z axis) is on the right as the operator stands facing the machine. FYI the Z axis can be a bit heavy when there is a lot of repetitive up and down motion required. I rigged a gas spring that stands parallel to the column and counter balances the weight of the head. Used a 100# 30" oal with 12.8 stroke. Now cranking up and down is almost effortless.
Question: Is there any way to tram the head on the machine
Answer: The SHOP FOX Deluxe Milling Machine does not come with a power feed. The power feed, along with many other optional equipment can be seen at the manufacturer's(Woodstock International) website.
Question: Is it "a large 7 1/16" x 26 5/8 table" or a "large 5-1/2" x 19-11/16" table?" both are mentioned in product description on this page
Answer: The Model M1111 is designed for an 110V power supply. It requires a minimum of a 15 amp circuit.
Question: What size chuck does this machine have
Answer: Steel is not a problem. Its a question of how aggressive the cuts are and the sharpness of the tooling. Its no Bridgeport but adequate for all material and the tapping mode is something I have found extremely useful.
