3 best table saw blade for plywood

Table saw blades designed for cutting plywood are specialized tools that ensure clean and precise cuts in plywood sheets. Here are the key features and considerations when it comes to table saw blades for plywood:

  1. Tooth Configuration: Plywood blades typically have more teeth, often between 80 to 100 or even more. These high tooth counts result in smoother cuts, reducing the chances of splintering or chipping the plywood surface.

  2. Tooth Design: The teeth of plywood blades are often designed with high alternate top bevel (Hi-ATB) or triple-chip grind (TCG) configurations. Hi-ATB blades have teeth that are angled for cleaner cuts, while TCG blades have a mix of beveled and flat-top teeth, which are effective for cutting through abrasive materials like plywood.

  3. Tooth Material: Carbide-tipped teeth are common in high-quality plywood blades. Carbide is durable and maintains sharpness for a longer time, ensuring a longer lifespan for the blade.

  4. Gullet Size: The gullets are the spaces between the teeth. In plywood blades, larger gullets help in chip removal, preventing the material from getting stuck between the teeth and the blade. This design prevents overheating and ensures smoother cutting.

  5. Anti-Vibration Design: Some plywood blades come with features to reduce vibrations during operation. Reduced vibration leads to more accurate cuts and also prolongs the life of the blade and the saw motor.

  6. Kerf Size: The kerf is the width of the cut made by the blade. Plywood blades often have a thin kerf, which means they remove less material, reducing waste and making the cutting process more efficient.

  7. Coating: Many high-quality plywood blades come with coatings, such as non-stick coatings or anti-friction coatings. These coatings reduce heat and friction during cutting, which results in smoother operation and longer blade life.

When choosing a table saw blade for plywood, it's essential to consider the thickness and type of plywood you'll be cutting. Additionally, always ensure that the blade is compatible with your table saw model and that it is securely installed and properly aligned to prevent accidents and achieve the best results.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this the red blade for the 12" 96t? (Pictures show the 10" 80t
Answer: There is a drop down menu. Your choice 9", 10", 12" or 14". I purchased the 8" for an 8" tablesaw inherited from my father. The cut is so smooth, it appears that the cut was finished sanded.
Question: Os it mutch better than D1090x
Answer: Don't know your answer, but I really like this blade. Used mostly on oak.
Question: does a 15" blade actually measure 15 inches across the blade
Answer: Yes it should
Question: Thin Kerf or Regular Kerf? - The thickness specs at 0.126 inch but description says thin kerf. Which one is it
Answer: Regular kerf. If you are referring to the graphic at the right of the product description, the whole graphic makes no sense to me. The graphic should show it rated Fair for Ripping; Excellent for Crosscuts, Plywood and Laminate; Good for Chipboard, and not recommended for Non-Ferrous material. Clearly they got the wrong graphic in there.

Hi-ATB Teeth offer Versatility and Clean Finishes

This thin-kerf blade's 80-tooth, high-alternating-top-bevel ( Hi-ATB) configuration features a large number of small teeth that face both left and right--a setup that ensures clean crosscuts and splinter-free finishes, even when working with hard-to-handle materials like laminates. This setup paired with Freud's anti-vibration technology results in cuts so smooth that they eliminate the need for a stabilizer or a scoring blade.

This blade is designed for optimal performance when cutting materials that are 1/4 to 1-5/8 inches thick, including hard- and softwood, chipboard, plywood, laminates, and melamine. The blade can also handle ripping wood, and it can tackle thinner or thicker materials. However, some loss of surface finish may occur when it is used outside its ideal range. It has a 5/8-inch arbor and produces a 0.098 kerf.

Well-Balanced, Anti-Vibration Design

This Freud blade is precision balanced and pretensioned for truer cuts under heavy loads. It also features laser-cut, anti-vibration slots that reduce chatter for a cleaner finish, longer blade life, and reduced noise while you work--a feature that's especially important when working with plywood or laminates. And because the entire blade is laser cut from high-strength steel, you can trust that it will stay stable, flat, and true, even after prolonged use.

High-Density Carbide for Maximum Cutting Performance

This thin-kerf saw blade's 80 teeth are finished with tips made from Freud's application-specific TiCo high-density carbide "crosscut blend." Formulated to help the blade maintain a sharp cutting edge in the face of demanding crosscut applications, this blend is extra hard--due to including more high-density tungsten carbide than other TiCo blends--and it still offers the full mix of improved corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and impact resistance that you expect from TiCo.

With teeth that start out sharper and deliver improved edge retention, the blade can go longer between sharpening, and will hold up longer--saving you time and money.

Perma-SHIELD Coating Reduces Friction and Heat Buildup

Built to withstand tough use in less-than-ideal conditions, this blade is finished with Freud's red Perma-SHIELD--a non-stick coating that reduces friction and nearly eliminates the heat buildup that excess friction can cause. By providing complete thermal insulation, this coating protects your tools and your work surface. And it resists binding when the blade is used for large-volume cutting applications, which reduces blade warp.

As a lubricating feature, Perma-SHIELD allows the blade to spin freely while reducing stress on the motor and carriage of your saw. In addition, this coating helps prevent debris collection and resin or "pitch" buildup. Since gummy pitch buildup causes extra drag on the motor of your saw, less buildup is another little convenience that translates into longer tool life and longer blade life. It also means less downtime for blade cleaning, so you get jobs done faster.

This industrial saw blade is backed by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the actual blade kerf in mm
Answer: .098 kerf for LU79R010 according to Freud website
Question: is this good for cutting laminate counter top
Answer: It would probably be one of the best available. You would want to put the countertop face down and place your circular saw on the bottom of the counter (circular saws cut up into the shoe of the saw so the finest cut side would be opposite of the one the saws shoe is riding on). You would want to fix/clamp (double side carpet tape also works well to fix a straight edge temporarily) a straight edge onto the bottom of the countertop that the saw shoe would ride against (make sure your blade lines up with your cut line). Also, for added insurance, put tape on the finished surface side that you will be cutting through (this didn't help with chip out on the melamine I cut, but may with laminate). make sure your straight edge goes past the edges of the countertop so your saw shoe will have plenty of surface to ride at the beginning and end of the cut to keep it straight. Also, make sure the depth of the blade will fully travel through the backsplash height of your countertop if it has one (otherwise a cheap pull saw from homedepot would be good to carefully finish the cut and sand straight with 220). You will want to get the laminate "end caps" that you glue on after the cut if the countertop is not covered on both ends by an existing wall (titebond III would be a good choice for periodic wet areas).
Question: Will it fit the Festool TS
Answer: No, this particular blade is too small and will only work on the TS 55 or the TS 55 REQ. For the TS 75, look for a blade that is 210 mm in diameter and has a blade hole (also called an arbor) of 30 mm. Although I own this blade and like it, the blades that come with the Festool saws are really good. If you have one already, it will serve you well.
Question: Has anyone used this on baltic birch ply? if so, how did it perform? thank you
Answer: Have not used it on baltic birch. Have used it on other plywoods and on bamboo flooring. It was fine on both.
