The biscuit helps hold the joint together.If he meant a jointer, this machine is used to make the edge and usually one side of a board straight and flat. You can use other machines for the other edge and side once you have a straight a flat edge and side to reference them against.This joiner is a lot cheaper than a jointer. Answer:	the arbor is pretty much standard. The brades are either 4 or 4.5 dia. You can get them from any number of catalogs. I get the blade with the most number of teeth. Freud and Yenryu are good brands. Just look for biscuit joiner blade and you can't go wrong.

Answer:	It uses 120 V. There's no switch to change it to 220 V as far as I can tell.

Answer:	The product description states 1010 watts. So if we do the math 1010 watts/ 120 volts = 8.4 amps.

Answer:	A 3/4" top should have no problem using the largest #20 biscuit I like to space them 6-8 inches apart

Answer:	It cuts slots for biscuits, that's about the best I can say for it. None of the gauges are accurate, not even the mark in the center( at least an 1/8-1/4" off). The height gauge is adjustable, meaning for the thickness of the board, but I adjusted it as far as it would go and still it is off, so I just use practice boards and a ruler to center slot. And my last complaint is that for the 0 biscuits it does not cut deep enough, has adjustment for that as well but it didn't seem to help much so I just made the slot wider. Seriously thought about checking with Amazon about returning, but I won't use it enough to spend the extra $100 for something that should be more accurate, and while it is very annoying, if you take a little extra time and patience it does the job.

Answer:	I wouldn't use them for that big of a project. I would use a mortise and tenon joint, which is very strong. Biscuits are good for aligning a joint, but does not add a lot of strenght.

Answer:	Since the biscuit join method was developed by a Swiss dude, the "official" thickness is 4mm. Most vary between .156 and .160 inches. 5/32 for you fractionally inclined folks.

Answer:	Although I have not evaluated the Beadlock tenon joints for strength, I can tell you that the biscuits are MUCH less expensive, the tooling to route grooves into the material is readily available, and the speed at which you can assemble biscuit joints is at least ten times faster than doing any Beadlock joint. If the ultimate strength is that important to you, then the tenon joints in my opinion will be stronger. But for 99.9% of my assemblies, biscuit joints are plenty strong enough.

Answer:	I've owned a PC557 version 3 for over 5 years and it is an excellent tool with one exception. When using the dust bag, the tool is prone to sawdust clogging the dust port.Frustrated by having to use a coat hanger wire to unclog the machine every 4 cuts, I came up with a modification that has eliminated this problem for me.All you need is Rockler item #42251 ($7.00) and an 8" plastic wire tie.Discard the removable tube that normally connects the dust port to the bag. Cut off the small first step on the Rockler #42251 hose adapter. The new opening now matches the diameter of the dust port. Unzip the dust bag. Insert the hose adapter into the bag with the small end protruding from the spring clip opening. Loop the wire tie behind the spring clamp and tighten. Attach the protruding end of the Rockler adapter to the dust port.Using this fix, I have gone from 4 cuts and a clog to 20 cuts and no clogs on pine, poplar, and red oak.I offered this solution to Dewalt/Porter Cable and they showed no interest.

When using the dust bag, the tool is prone to sawdust clogging the dust port.Frustrated by having to use a coat hanger wire to unclog the machine every 4 cuts, I came up with a modification that has eliminated this problem for me.All you need is Rockler item #42251 ($7.00) and an 8" plastic wire tie.Discard the removable tube that normally connects the dust port to the bag. Cut off the small first step on the Rockler #42251 hose adapter. The new opening now matches the diameter of the dust port. Unzip the dust bag. Insert the hose adapter into the bag with the small end protruding from the spring clip opening. Loop the wire tie behind the spring clamp and tighten. Attach the protruding end of the Rockler adapter to the dust port.Using this fix, I have gone from 4 cuts and a clog to 20 cuts and no clogs on pine, popular, and red oak.I offered this solution to Dewalt/Porter Cable and they showed no interest.

Answer:	I think it’s 5/8”, universal size. More importantly, the mounting surface is thinner so it requires shimming so the blade to tighten. You have to shim both sides of the blade so that the blade stay centered in the opening.
