14 best concrete core drill bits
Concrete core drill bits are specialized cutting tools used in construction and masonry applications for creating holes and openings in concrete, brick, stone, and other hard materials. These drill bits are commonly employed in various industries for tasks such as installing plumbing, electrical conduit, or HVAC systems. Here's what you need to know about concrete core drill bits:
Purpose: Concrete core drill bits are designed to create clean, precise, and often large-diameter holes in hard materials. They are commonly used in construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects.
Construction: These drill bits are typically composed of a steel body with industrial-grade diamond or carbide segments embedded on the cutting edge. The diamond or carbide segments provide the cutting power needed to penetrate and remove material.
Variety: Concrete core drill bits come in various sizes and configurations, allowing for the creation of holes of different diameters and depths. Some bits are designed for dry drilling, while others require water cooling to reduce heat and dust.
Attachment: Core drill bits are attached to a core drilling machine or a power drill with a suitable adapter or chuck. The machine or drill provides the rotational force necessary for drilling into hard materials.
Water Cooling: Many core drill bits require water cooling to lubricate the cutting edge, cool down the bit, and control dust. Water is typically supplied through a hose attached to the drilling equipment.
Applications: Core drill bits are used for a wide range of applications, including creating holes for plumbing and electrical installations, installing anchor bolts, creating openings for ventilation or windows, and more. They are crucial in tasks where standard twist drill bits are not sufficient due to the hardness of the material.
Safety: When using concrete core drill bits, operators should wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and dust masks. The process can generate dust and noise.
Technique: Achieving precise holes with concrete core drill bits requires careful positioning and steady pressure. Proper technique ensures clean and accurate results.
In summary, concrete core drill bits are essential tools in the construction and masonry industries for creating holes in hard materials. Their design and construction, including the use of diamond or carbide cutting segments, make them well-suited for demanding drilling tasks. Proper use and safety precautions are crucial when operating these tools to ensure efficient and safe drilling operations.

User questions & answers
Question: | I’m looking for the pilot bit, i have a sds max 1 1/4” x 7mm arbor with a 14” x 4” core bit what pilot bit attachment do i need |
Answer: | 25/32" (a little over 3/4") |
Question: | Could you be more specific with an adapter for a 1/2" drill? Could you post a link to something that might work |
Answer: | There are two answers to this question. It can fit on a drill with a small (1/4") chuck. The second answer is: I don't recommend it. The Dremel 85422 Silicon Carbide Grinding Stone is intended for use with the Dremel 4000 Variable Speed Rotary Tool. If you attach the grinding stone to even a very small drill you lose a great deal of the precision that the correct rotary tool gives. There is also a safety issue. If you can't control the drill properly you may shatter the stone. The Dremel 4000 costs $80.00. If you need to grind a small object safely, the extra $80.00 is worth it. |
Question: | The threads are too far down in the drill to reach with a 1-1/4 7 adapter. What specific adapter works with this drill bit and a 1/2 inch drill |
Answer: | It can just the same as a drill bit. |
Question: | Can this be used in a 3/8" drill and does it require an arbor? Don't know what 1-1/4 in -7mm shank means |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. The Dremel 85422 Grinding Stone is a 100 grit stone. For further assistance, please contact us at 1-800-4-DREMEL (1-800-437-3635), Monday - Friday, 8A - 5P CST. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the 1.75" outside diameter? What diameter core does it recover |
Answer: | Absolutely, brick and block is what this tool is made for. |
Question: | Would it drill through rebar |
Answer: | I didn’t receive one with mine but the seller was great and sent one right out . I’m sorry I don’t know if you can buy separately |
Question: | Can I hook this up to a grinder witha 5/8" thread |
Answer: | 3 in OD |
Question: | Will this fit in a cordless drill |
Answer: | We drilled through a 8 inch cinder block wall with this bit. We also needed a 4 inch vent pipe...in our case for a dryer. It was difficult to get a standard 4 inch vent through the hole we bored. To have it work we inserted a sleeve through the wall made from sheet metal that was probably a little smaller than 4 inches and attached a 4 inch vent pipe on the inside and an outdoor vent on the other. This solution was easy and worked out great. |

Answer: | Although I have never tried to use this with anything but the saws that came with it I believe the threads are metric like the core bit sizes. If that is the case no it will not work on 5/8" standard threads. |
Question: | Can these bits be used to go through Corian |
Answer: | The mount connector size is M22 if that’s what you’re asking |
Question: | Would this work for drilling a 6 inch post |
Answer: | If you’re drilling into concrete yes. I highly recommend a hammer drill. |
Question: | Will this work with a cordless impact drill? (DeWalt |

User questions & answers
Question: | What adapter and pilot combo would I need to use this bit with my Bosch hammer drill |
Answer: | Yes, all core bits are measured by outside diameter. The inner is about 1/4" smaller, but that's not something we control for in manufacturing |
Question: | Have dewalt spline hammer drill & a sds adapter for small bits & hd milwaukee right angle drill which to use for 8" concrete |
Answer: | Yes it can. However, if you have a lot of rebar to go through, this series of core bits will perform better: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078ZQTB23 |
Question: | Need a 2 1/2 hole in street curb for drainage pipe, curb 6 - 6 1/2 inches thick, have Dewalt dwe4011 angle grinder w/ 5/8"-11 spindle, will this do it |
Answer: | Hi, you technically Can hook this up to a grinder with a 5/8" thread, but the RPM of a grinder is typically too high to operate a wet core bit efficiently. The recommend rpm for 1.5" diameter wet bit is around 2000 |
Question: | I have an sds max bulldog drill. What adapter do I need for this Bit |
Answer: | I dont see why not, im sure the Hulk could hold it in place, the drill made for this weighs 75lbs plus. |

Bit life varies based on many factors including; material type, material density, depth of cut, hole diameter, drilling speed, wet/dry drilling and operator experience. As such, it is extremely difficult for BLUEROCK Tools to assess individual projects and speak to how long a bit will last before it needs to be replaced. We consider these core bits to be mid-grade in their performance but sold at a low-grade price point. Our customers tend to consider these bits to be a better value compared to high-grade bits that are a lot more expensive. We often hear that even though high-grade bits may last twice as long, they cost four times the price and they are happy buying our bits and getting the same amount of feet cut for half the price. Wet type concrete coring bits are NOT designed to cut all types of rock. They are primarily designed to cut concrete. Certain types of rock can be cut, but it will limit the bit life. The decision to use these bits on materials that they are not primarily designed for will be done at the risk of the user and not covered under our standard business policy.

Question: | Will this cut through rebar/wire mesh? And if so what size |
Answer: | Typically for a slab you would use the diamond core bit. The SDS max is for use with a large hammer drill. The diamond bit is for use with a core drill. |
Question: | Will this cut through granite |
Answer: | You'll need a SDS adapter. There's no pilot. I'd suggest cutting a hole in some plywood equal to the size of the bit making it long enough to get both feet on to hold in place. Once it starts cutting the concrete it'll follow grove it cut. |
Question: | What adapters can I use to install this to a bosh hammer drill |
Answer: | I ran it on a Dewalt 1/2” angle drill at low speed. If possible use a little water, keep it good and straight. |
