Question:	I have the product here but as yet have not used it: have chisels and a small plane and I do not know the original angles so how do I begin
Answer:	If questions were: does it have a guide for an a guide for an angle of 12.5 degrees; and, would I recommend this set? The respective answers are: yes, there is a guide wedge for each whole number from 10 up to the max angle included in the set (20°), plus one for each half degree in between each whole number, i.e., 11.5°, 12.5°, 13.5°, etc. I would recommend this set given the price and the number of angles covered. It's impossible to eyeball a half-degree difference on the grind of a knife. However, be aware that this set is more for reference than actually physically aiding you with holding a steady when you sharpen. You cant really affix a w0edge to your blade; the best way to use them is to find the angle of the grind by comparing it to wedges, then just holding steady to that angle as you sharpen. So if you're looking for something to physically force the proper angle on you, this is not the product.
Question:	Why do the angles in millimeters not seem to correspond. Atlin says 38 mm for 30 degrees for plane but I am getting 58mm when I use my angle gauge
Answer:	Not if you put blue masking tape over the upper part of your blade.

Answer:	As to your question 1, it's geometry. As to your question 2, you can change the angle of the cutting edge to any degree you wish. (90 degrees is the limit, but then you would have a hammer, not a knife.) Different cutting needs typically use different angles. As an example, chef knifes usually sharpened to 15-20 degrees. Outdoor knives generally sharpened to about 40 degrees. It's a balance between fine cutting and keeping an edge sharp in the field. Internet has good information on this subject.
Question:	Where is this manufactured
Answer:	It is a hard plastic. I personally found them useless. But it could just be me. I found it difficult to continue the angle to the end of the knife. I prefer just estimating the angle. My knives are sharp just using the stones and estimating the angle. Used 1000 and 6000 stone. going to buy an 8000 for an even sharper hone.

Answer:	The grit is measured in CAMI (Coated Abrasive Manufacturers Institute) nomenclature as 1,000 grit (1000 particles per inch) or about 10.3 microns.

Answer:	The stone is 7 inches long, 1 inch high and 1 and 1/4 inch wide. Works very well. Just need to let it dry out if you store it away so you don't get mildew being in a closed container.
Question:	are these to be used wet? if so, oil or water? how long to keep submerged in water before use (1st use and each subsequent use
Answer:	This stone requires water. I suggest that you soak it submerged for 24 hours before the first use. Turn it over several times during the 24 hour period. Each time you turn it over you will see new bubbbles of air escaping from the stone. Use the stone while WET! In subsequent uses, soak for between 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on how much 'new' air is escaping from the stone. I understand oil can be used in addition to water but I am told and have demonstrated that it is unneccessary. Good Luck!

Answer:	Yes. You can lay them flat to hone either side... And for the edge, you simply flex the scraper into a curve against the disc so it self levels at exactly 90 degrees.

Answer:	I do not believe you can use the work sharp for this. It would be difficult if not impossible to keep the angles. The Drill Doctor does a wonderful job of sharpening drill bits.

Answer:	Be aware that the operating voltage may not be the only problem, so check with the manufacturer before using it in Europe. The US has 60 Hz alternating current, where Europe uses 50 Hz current. When we lived in Germany, this ruined the motor for our stereo's turntable. Make sure the motor can take the change in frequency.

Answer:	Try using only one stone in the wood block with the black spacer between the bottom of the stone and the wood block. As you use the stone use the entire surface, if you use only one corner of the stone you can wear it unevenly and it will not lay flat. Also don’t use the stone dry. Use the proper stone oil or water.
Question:	Is this a soak stone or is it to be used as-is with a little oil for lubrication
Answer:	Sure, you have two grits adequate for carving tools. Use the rubber pad to protect the grooved side when useing the reverse flat side. It is a nice set up to maintain a decent edge all in one kit. Very useful for the price. Treat it with care as any stone set.
Question:	Do I need additional finer grit stone after using both sides on this one
Answer:	Yes, chisel, knifes and anything you can move across the stones.
Question:	What's the dimensions of the stone
Answer:	I would think so. If you can sharpen them on regular stones I would think these would work. I never used them with that tool(s).

Answer:	The maximum width on this jig is about 3 7/16 of an inch so yes is will work on almost all of them but would not recommend it for blades/irons from smaller block, finger, molding planes or spoke shaves with a blade/iron length of less than 3 inches .

Answer:	I apply oil each time I use the stone. it does soak up the oil during use

Answer:	Probably not. After using the fine grit side the next step would be to polish the edge using a polishing compound such as Green Chrome Oxide compound on a glass surface or some other such smooth surface on which you can apply the Green Chrome Oxide compound or which ever polishing compound you choose.

Answer:	Don't have it handy to measure, but if memory serves, I thinks it's in the neighborhood of 2" x 6" x 1".
