9 best gripping pliers
Gripping pliers, also known as locking pliers or vice-grip pliers, are a type of hand tool commonly used in various applications, particularly in the field of mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, and general repair work. They are considered versatile tools due to their ability to grip and lock onto objects securely, allowing for better control and manipulation.
Key features of gripping pliers include:
Adjustable Jaws: Gripping pliers typically have adjustable jaws that can be modified to accommodate various sizes of objects. This adjustability enables the tool to grasp both small and large items.
Locking Mechanism: The gripping pliers have a locking mechanism that allows the jaws to stay in a fixed position once they are clamped onto an object. This locking feature is what sets them apart from standard pliers.
Serrated Jaws: The jaws of gripping pliers often have serrated or grooved surfaces that provide a firm grip on the object, minimizing slipping and ensuring a secure hold.
Release Mechanism: To release the grip on the object, the pliers typically have a quick-release lever or mechanism that disengages the locking feature, allowing the jaws to be opened.
Multi-Functional Use: Gripping pliers can be used for a variety of tasks, including clamping, twisting, turning, holding, or even acting as a makeshift wrench.
Materials and Durability: Gripping pliers are usually made of high-quality materials like steel to ensure durability and strength, making them suitable for heavy-duty applications.
Handle Design: The handles of gripping pliers are designed for comfort and ease of use, often with ergonomic grips to reduce hand fatigue during extended use.
These pliers are indispensable in a toolkit and are commonly used for applications such as tightening or loosening bolts and nuts, clamping materials together, bending or shaping wires, and more. They are a valuable addition to any toolbox, providing versatility and functionality in a wide range of tasks.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these cut acsr |
Answer: | I have not personally cut acsr with them. Though they are strong, and ive cut through and twisted multiple 12/2 electrical wire at once, i wouldnt recommend them for acsr. If you were to try it, i wouldnt try it anything bigger than 6AL/1St. But it would probably still be a bit tough to do. |
Question: | Anyone have any issues with rusting/seizing? I do a lot of metal work so I quench in water briefly and I'm sick of pliers seizing on me |
Answer: | I live in a part of Texas with high humidity, so I also have a problem with tools seizing from rust. Once the original finish is penetrated, not much will stop it, but for my precision tools I give them an occasional shot of penetrating oil and have found soaking them (open jawed) in the same will save most and free up even seized units with some working of the hinges. |
Question: | Do these have a lifetime warranty |
Answer: | Yes Klein has a lifetime warranty and Home Depot honors it. |
Question: | How do these compare to Knipex linesman pliers |
Answer: | I use my pliers everyday I bought a pair of knipex from Amazon and thought from what everyone said knipex were better but after using them for about six months I’ve been having issues with them so I will be purchasing another pair of Klein’s. |

Induction-Hardened Side Cutter for Soft Wire
Machining to an optimized 65-degree angle allows the blades to be strong yet sharp, producing a satisfyingly smooth, clean cut that requires minimal effort. After the full pliers have been heat treated, a secondary induction-heating process hardens just the blades to 58-64 HRC, making them extremely durable and able to cut tougher materials.
Long, Slender Nose
Relative to their overall length, the 7-inch pliers have an extra long and slender nose that reaches deep into tight spaces and offers a deft grasp on small parts.
Crosscut Teeth
Oriented at 120 degrees to each other, the serrations are cut in two passes to form regularly-spaced, diamond-shaped teeth.
Lean and Practical Grips
Single-layer vinyl grips offer a bit of comfortable cushion and provide a smooth, yet nonslip surface. They're slim, not thick and bulky, so they stay out of the way when space is tight and are always easy to handle, even with gloves on.

Question: | What is the difference between alligator and cobra pliers |
Answer: | Dye base |
Question: | Which knipex is best to use for heating and cooling |
Answer: | They are compatible and you don't need to drain the old ink. I just add ink when it's needed. I've always gotten brilliant colors and sharp images using this ink. I print a lot of 19"x13" photos and the savings compared to buying ink cartridges is huge. I installed the Fantasybuy CIS for my Epson Photo 1400 and my Epson Artisan 810 and they both take the same inks. |

Knipex 88 01 250, 10-inch Alligator Water Pump Pliers
Providing more output and comfort compared to conventional water pump pliers of the same length, the Knipex Alligator water pump pliers offers nine adjustment positions for 30 percent more gripping capacity and good access to the workpiece due to the slim size in its head and joint areas. It's so versatile, it can be used in any industry — automotive, electrical, HVACR, industrial, and even for DIY.
A serrated gripping surface on the jaws allows for gripping any shaped object — round, square, hex, or flat. Plus, the tool's teeth are induction hardened for wear resistance and a longer life. A box joint provides directional stability when working in any environment. This dual channel design offers the operator increased confidence that the tool will not bend or break under heavy duty working conditions. A fine adjustment enables you to find the perfect setting for different sized workpieces.
By adjusting the handles to get the appropriate width, you can lock the jaws into place to avoid slipping off the workpiece. Once locked into position, you won't have to squeeze the handles to get a greater grip. Only downward pressure on the top handle is needed to firmly hold the object.
The Alligator also has a forged on pinch guard that prevents the operator's fingers and hands from being pinched. Because the guard is forged at the same time that the tool is made, it will last as long as the tool itself.
Quality in Every Detail
Sometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long-lasting. Because we don't want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look.
The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8 percent carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this.
Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers.
