User questions & answers
Question: | I purchased this lock ring plier in june of 2018, and one of the tips broke today/normal use. does this tool have a warranty |
Answer: | Stanley Proto supposedly offers a lifetime warranty on their hand tools. I bought a wrench a while back for a special job and the pin that held everything together snapped. I contacted Proto and sent them pictures. They wanted me to pay to ship it to them and then they would replace the pin. Not what I would consider professional in a warranty service. I shouldn’t have to pay to ship the broken tool to the manufacture for them to honor the warranty. So in other words, if you are willing to pay to have your broken pliers shipped to Stanley Proto, they may end up replacing them. |
Question: | Can this be used to remove threads from a candelabra bulb that broke off in the socket |
Answer: | I don't know why it would not work. I have used standard needle nose. Bend the metal base that was part of the bulb so you can get a grip on it. This might work well if you have limited room. |
Question: | What is the width of the tip, while closed |
Answer: | 0.1365" measured with a digital caliper. Allow some 'wiggle room'. |
Question: | How wide do these open? I need to know for sure, not about |
Answer: | I need pliers that work on lock ring that has a forty five cut . Don't need pliers that work on snap rings with eyelet to remove |

Question: | Can you cut wire with them? Sometimes needle-nose pliers have a sharp edge near the handle that you can use to cut wire - wondering if these do |
Answer: | We can confirm that the Stanley Needle Nose Pliers - 127mm - 0-84-096 are designed for gripping. They do not have a sharp edge near the handle to cut wire. |
Question: | Are the jaws on thes serrated or smooth |
Answer: | Hi James- They are serrated through the jaws. I have posted some pictures (hopefully Amazon will allow them) with close pictures of the jaws against a ruler. |
Question: | I need the exact dimensions on the tip, widht and height, have to reach a tight space |
Answer: | Closed the tip is 1/8" and at hinge 15/16" to outside edges. The jaw itself tapers from 3/32" to approx 19/64" about 1 & 5/8" up from tip. Total length is 5 &7/8". Total jaw opening distance is 2 & 1/16". Tip opens to about 1" which makes the hinge end right before bend in handle approx. 11/16". Hope that helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Widest opening |
Answer: | Yes. Made in USA is stamped on the side of the pair that I recently purchased. |
Question: | how wide is the ruber in the jaws |
Answer: | Yes. Model 229-01G is a 5-9/16" version. |
Question: | What material are these made of |
Answer: | Despite the claim of having "diamond serrated jaws" (taken directly from the Proto website), the pair I received has serrations going straight across. |
Question: | Before i buy: are replacement jaw inserts available? pn also helpful. mil-cannon plugs wear out apex inserts pretty fast |
Answer: | As long as you are ordering a small “bail making pliers” because I’m assuming the ear cuffs you’re making are small...The 6mm/8.5mm may be too large, that’s why I ordered this set because the smaller ones were not grasping the wire good enough. You’ll probably get other answers from more experienced jewelry makers, this is just my observation. Good luck!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you use it |
Answer: | Once you have pulled the wire through whatever it is that you are locking with the wire you cut the wire longer than you need and put both ends of the wire into the jaws of the plier and lock the plier with the locking mechanism. Once this is done the only part of the tool that you touch is the center "pull" knob which you just pull on and let the plier spin which in turn twists the wire. Pull until the wire is twisted and slightly touching the nut, bolt or whatever it is that you are locking then cut the twisted wire approximately 3/8" or so from the item you are locking (this will vary depending on what you are doing). You will usually be left with a little twisted wire still attached to the tool which you can just unlock and throw away or recycle. If you are locking multiple nuts/bolts or whatever just Google "how to safety wire multiple nuts" and you will find many instructions for this as it is extremely important to set things up so that if something comes loose it will pull tighter on the wire and not looser. Wire routing is super important. Good luck. |
