User questions & answers
Question: | Is this particular model made in the USA |
Answer: | All it says is "For USA Sale Only" and "Oregon Proud", it does not say " Made in USA" anywhere. |
Question: | What is the difference in the Wingmen series? Leatherman 831426 Wingman? Leatherman 831425? Other |
Answer: | As per the customer service representative I spoke with at Leatherman, 831425 is in the blister pack. 831426 comes in the traditional black & yellow Leatherman box. They are the exact same tool, just different packaging. |
Question: | does it have a pocket or belt clip |
Answer: | Yip, it certainly does have a belt clip. |
Question: | Where is the production |
Answer: | They finish the products in their factory in Portland, OR (where 10 people each Wednesday can participate in a tour). As of 2005-2008, some components were produced and/or processed in Western Europe (files, corkscrews, etc.), the plier jaws are cast in Mexico, and other part(s) in Canada. This information became public due to the facts disclosed in the Colgan v. Leatherman Tool Group lawsuit in California as well as the resulting PR from Leatherman. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Just got the skeletool cx, but can anyone suggest a good oil to use on the joints ( a little to tough opening |
Answer: | In my work environment, I use no oil because it will capture dust and sand. I you are still concerned about it, use dry graphite powder. |
Question: | Does the positon of the blade get in the way (no chance of getting cut or stab) while using the other tools |
Answer: | When closed position no. When in plier open position (‘using other tools’ per your question), Yes, blade can open about one inch from handle leaving enough space for an entire adult pinkie finger to slide under blade. I own this knife and love it, but this is a major design oversight. I actually use this flaw as a wire stripper which works quite well. The strange part is there is a cut out on the tool allowing the blade to open into this position, it was machined this way. Current owners, try opening yours, notch on blade fits perfectly into handle notch when opening blade about 1” in plier position. . . . |
Question: | This is the non serrated correct? and iv noticed that there is another cx model here in amazon... it's a different price too. are they both cx models |
Answer: | The one I ordered and received is the non serrated bladed, best blade on a multitool |
Question: | Whats the difference between the CX and the regular skeletool |
Answer: | The CX has higher quality 154CM steel in the blade. The blade is perfectly flat which makes it easier to sharpen than the "combo" blade on the regular Skeletool. The CX uses carbon fiber, but this is just for cosmetics; it weights exactly as many grams as the original Skeletool. |

Question: | Is it normal for the black to rub off all over your hands? If so, how long will this last |

Question: | Does it come with replacement blades |
Answer: | I had an old one with a rusted blade believe it or not. Contacted Leatherman, they said ship it (my cost) and they would replace the blade for free, and free shipping back to me. They do stand behind their product. 25 year warranty is real. Send yours, they will fix it for free. |
Question: | Is the pliers spring loaded |
Answer: | No it is not spring loaded |
Question: | Does this leatherman come with a pouch |
Answer: | Mine did. I would hate to say definitely and have Amazon change the order, but mine came with a very nice nylon sheath. |

Question: | Does this item come with a sheath |
Answer: | I've owned my 300 about a year and wear it on my belt for work. The Velcro cover on the molle sheath never closed securely and the sheath is full of wear holes and the screwdriver bits are bent already. I'm ready to switch back to my gerber which I used everyday for 20 years of military service. |
Question: | What size is the screwdriver |
Answer: | There's 1 Phillips and 3 flathead. The Phillips is P1 size, the flatheads are 1/8", 3/16" and 5/16. The ones on mine are all ground very well and consistent |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this come with the Belt sheath |
Answer: | Yes. It comes with a hard plastic belt holder that secures the scissors securely. And the holder fits tightly to the belt so it does not slip off. |
Question: | Are these tsa approved for carry on |
Answer: | No- I checked and TSA said the seat belt cutter counted as a blade. |
Question: | Will these fit in the trama shear pocket (with the handle strap) of my 5.11 pants in the open position |
Answer: | No it won’t. I have one. It doesn’t fit in my 5.11 or propper EMS pant side shear pockets |
Question: | What is the difference between the "molle sheath" vs the "utility sheath?" Leatherman's website calls it a holster and says it is "Molle compatible |
Answer: | I'm not sure. I called Leatherman directly and asked that very question. The response I got was that there is only one polycarbonate clip holster that has 2 hooks in the back that can be attach to a molle system. I would prefer that it be a true molle pouch with a cover because despite Leatherman's claim about how strong the clip on the scissor is, when you're out in the field, bending over, laying down to intubate a patient, lean against something, the open carry scissor will slide off the plastic clip holster. We give about 15-20 of these Leatherman Raptors to our graduating fire/paramedic class every year and many have come to tell us that they've lost theirs because that metal clip on the scissor isn't as reliable as you think. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this particular item packaged? Does it come from Amazon in clamshell packaging (like stores), or does it come in a leatherman cardboard box |
Answer: | Mine came packaged nicely. It arrived in an Amazon box the size of the shoebox. Inside the box were plastic air pillows and the actual Leatherman cardboard box (not plastic clamshell). Inside the box was the tool, the leather pouch and caribiener clip. |
Question: | Does it include a leather sheath or nylon, I'm confused |
Answer: | This particular model comes with a durable Nylon sheath. |
Question: | Are the pliers spring loaded |
Answer: | Yes, a medium-strength spring keeps the pliers open all the way, ready to be squeezed. |
Question: | Do all the blades and tools lock open |
Answer: | Only the main knife blade and the saw blade lock in a way that requires pressing on metal spring tabs in order to close them. The other tools and blade do click into place rather positively, but they could closed unintentionally if bumped with some force. Nothing feels loose or unsafe, however. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it really the green color and Damascus blade |
Answer: | On the green color - Yes, it is really the green color. But it's NOT a damascus blade. It's 420 high carbon stainless steel, which is a good thing because real damascus steel is way more expensive and not at all strong; more of a collector's thing. It's also not a damascus design; it's a topographical map design. So you'll see little numbers indicating measurement of altitude and such. Not a real map of any particular thing obviously but it looks pretty. |
Question: | Does it come with a case |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do i get the surge with the upgraded better knife steel I've heard talk about |
Answer: | Google the one you want, get the item number. Then search Amazon for it |
Question: | Does the black oxcide scratch up after use and show the metal underneath |
Answer: | Yes, there is considerable friction, such as against the pliers faces, that rubs the oxide off and reveals the steel color, underneath. And of course scratching something against the tool during use will scratch the oxide off. |
Question: | What is the handle made of |
Answer: | The entire knife including the handle is stainless steel. |
Question: | What is the part number for this Surge |
Answer: | I don't know??? I just ordered it and it came quicker than it's estimated delivery date... Part number for what? I would consult and research the Leatherman website for further inquiries |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use the pliers regularly then use the “grip” feature only when I need it |
Answer: | Yes you can... and if it "grips" you open it with just a finger... I think it is great... |
Question: | What is the difference between the crunch 68010103k and the crunch 68010201k? is it the included sheath that's different? or something else |
Answer: | The 68010103K part # includes a leather "box" style sheath, and 68010201K comes with the nylon sheath instead. |
Question: | What type of leather case would this fit in |
Answer: | Mine came with a leather case which is 4.5" x 1.5" x 1". I think you might be best served by calling Leatherman and askibg them if they still make a leather case. Unless you have a well stocked knife shop or someone that makes leather cases and such near you. Just a wild ass guess but I think a Buck 112 case might fit it. Ebay has lots of cases for knives made by small shops. Some even mention that they do custom stuff. |
Question: | Does the Leatherman Crunch open wide enough to grasp a standard 1.25” garden hose coupling |
Answer: | It’s not really big enough for that. It’s barely big enough for 7/8” |

![]() Leatherman packs the full-size Skeletool with the tools you're likely to use most often. |
Introducing the Brand New Skeletool from Leatherman
Now you're ready to lighten your load and boost your survival skills -- with Leatherman's Skeletool. At a mere 5 ounces the new, full-sized multitool keeps weight and volume to a minimum without sacrificing quality and true functionality, and that's what the Skeletool is all about. Many multitools have multiple options, but theyre often heavier -- and they're loaded with more features than most people actually need on a regular basis. Conversely, pocket knives are light and streamlined, but they render themselves useless when the task calls for a more versatile tool. Enter the new Skeletool platform, offering minimal weight, compact size and endless capabilities. And with the Skeletool's integrated, removable pocket clip, you can easily clip this tool onto a belt, a pack, or a vest -- with no sheath or tote required.
Key User Features
The Skeletool CX has a large knife blade that can be accessed while the tool is closed; to open it, just place your thumb in the thumbhole at the base of the blade and rotate it out until it's fully extended -- which will engage the safety lock. This locking mechanism is noted with a padlock symbol on the tool. To unlock the blade, press the locking mechanism towards the handle until the blade slides past the lock.
Equipped with a universal bit driver, the Skeletool offers real utility options like no other multitool. To change the tool bits, simply unfold the tool and remove the bit from the bit driver -- and pop it out. And replacing bits is just as easy. Just press a new one into position and you're good to go. There's even a spare bit located in the handle side opposite the knife blade. This tool includes the following bits: Phillips #1 and #2, screwdriver 3/16-inch and 1/4-inch.
In the plier jaws you'll find a hard-wire cutter and a regular wire cutter. The regular wire cutter is great for softer grades of wire, but the hard-wire cutter is excellent for heavier jobs -- like cutting and bending fishhooks.
Multitool Capabilities:
The Skeletool keeps it simple -- and light, and compact, and easy to transport. Why waste time with pointless, heavy add-ons when all the basics are right at your fingertips? With its open hardware, skeletal design and hardy appearance, the Skeletool boasts a premium stainless steel blade, pliers, a universal bit driver, and a carabiner/bottle opener ... and that's it.
Key Tech Specs:

In 1975, Leatherman Tool Group founder Tim Leatherman was inspired by leaky pipes and a cranky car on a budget trip to Europe -- and thus the idea for his first pocket survival tool was conceived. Since then, Leatherman has become an internationally recognized company with hundreds of employees and a wide variety of durable, versatile, stylish products. Created with bold designs and truly rugged construction, Leatherman products are a perfect addition for tool kits, emergency sets, and glove compartments everywhere.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the sheath hold more than the skeletool itself? Would it hold a bit kit as well as a bit driver extender |
Answer: | Yes both bit holders (held in same pocket)and bit driver have dedicated stow spots. But after a month the nylon sheath has so much wiggle room that the skeletool can fall out I lost one that way. Had to buy a new one and customize the sheath. |
Question: | The picture shows a non-serrated blade, but the model on Leatherman's website shows a serrated blade. Anyone know what I will actually receive |
Answer: | Originally the Skeletool CX came with a half serrated blade and the stainless Skeletool came with a smooth blade. Sometime after 2008 (when I bought my Skeletool CX) they switched the design. Now the Skeletool CX now has the smooth blade and the stainless Skeletool has the half serrated blade. |
Question: | This says that it is 1.57" long compared to the 50 being 4" long. Is this true |
Answer: | Hi Jeff,I don't know of any multitools that are 1.57 inches long. The 4" length sounds about right though.I don't want to bum you out but the Skeletool looks much cooler than it is.Do yourself a favor and look at/buy the Sidekick instead. The Sidekick has more features and is a great little tool, much better value than the Skeletool IMHO. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | All Leatherman products are made at their company headquarters in Portland, Oregon. I had the privilege to tour their facility a couple of years ago; the tour was led by a long-time Leatherman employee. She took us right on the factory floor where we were able to watch their multitools being made, and we had the opportunity to ask questions of other employees on the floor who weren't busy at the time our tour passed by. I came away even more impressed with the company knowing they're keeping many fellow Americans employed in a safe, comfortable work environment! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Weird question maybe, but can i get this engraved? looking to get it as father's day gift |
Answer: | Yes you can if you order from Leatherman directly. |
Question: | Does the plus model have spring loaded pliers |
Answer: | The pliers are not spring loaded. |
Question: | Is a sheath included with this item |
Answer: | Yes, it is included. |
Question: | Are these fake or real |
Answer: | Legit question. There are plenty of counterfeits floating around online. This one is real, though. Plus, it's manufactured in the USA (Oregon) so not quite as easy for the Chinese to clone as the millions of other products that are being made right over there, where "employees" walk out the back door with complete design schematics and make perfect copies across town for 10% of the price and drive the American maker out of business. (The lesson here is, buy American!) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the black a coating that will rub off |
Answer: | Not exactly. What you’ll normally experience is the oil that Leatherman uses, it typically comes off on your hands as black. The black coating will experience wear, from use and just opening it over time. I really like how it starts to look after awhile! |
Question: | Are the pliers spring loaded |
Answer: | No |
Question: | do the needle nose plyers come to a point or are they kind of stubby |
Answer: | They come to a point and are of sharpness and quality (if not superior quality) of any needle nose pliers for working on cars. You can get smaller (sharper / more pointed) from craft stores but that is not what this multi tool is designed for. |
Question: | Does it come with a pocket clip |
Answer: | No it does not. I dont know why you would want one either. It comes with a nylon holster and I work in construction A few guys on our crews carried them. To be honest half carried this multitool in the holster and half in their front or back pocket. I had 2 and I was for work and one was in my backpack for Search and Rescue. |
