There a gray with red handle heavy duty steel strapping cutter that I do not recommend, it has 5/16 greater spread at the tip of the handle, that extends the hand beyond comfort and beyond gripping power range that tears up the palm of my hand. Answer:	Well... Kind of. Actually, do you mean :cutting fir trim for felt hats" or "cutting felt for felt hats"? Most of the fir is very thin, and these cutters don't do as well with "thin" as you would hope. It may, however, do well on stiffer felt. Either way, you will be better off with a decent set of scissors. (Note: If you do get this cutter, don't bother getting the replacement blades, instead, get "Schick Injector razor blades" and use those. They are cheaper, last as long, and cut a LOT better. Just break off the excess blade at the wood)

Answer:	the opening is 1/2". I would say it would cut 1/4, definitely no more than 5/16 ~8mm

I also got a Leatherman raptor. Both have much better carrying options than the bullshit sheath they sell with that Gerber.

Answer:	It would be a poor choice in my opinion for business or personal envelopes. There are envelope opening tools specifically made for that purpose. Less expensive and work better. This tool is good for dealing with plastic stretch wrap. For shipping mailers like Amazon uses #5 & #6 etc. I prefer using a scissors.
