User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone know if these are the same knives as chuppa knife company |
Answer: | Found this online: Chuppa Knives originally were similar to Rada Cutlery and other aluminum handle knives that were manufactured in northeast Iowa. Rada Mfg. Co. bought out many of the other smaller companies. Two companies that went out of business but were not purchased by Rada was Chuppa and Clearline Knife. Chuppa moved their operations to the southern US and started selling to WalMart. Eventually they moved manufacturing oversees, presumably due price pressures. Their quality declined and eventually were dropped by WalMart. Rada Cutlery continues to thrive and manufacture in Waverly, Iowa to the original high quality standards set at their start in 1948. Rada Knives are primarily sold by fundraising groups (churches, clubs, teams, schools and youth groups) who earn 40% profit as well as independent resellers (who sell from their owner-operated businesses or at fairs, festivals, shows and flea markets). Rada Mfg. Co. employees 100 people and helps about 18,000 fundraising groups fund their projects each year |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the black handles not aluminum? Some comments suggest the silver not go in the dishwasher but the black are ok |
Answer: | No the black handles are not aluminum. As for the others, I have been using these knives since the mid 70's and have put them in the dishwasher. The handles go from somewhat shiny to a dull color which doesn't bother me. I guess it's an individual choice what to do. |
Question: | Are the knives dishwasher safe |
Answer: | The stainless steel do not do well in the dishwasher. I had about 7 or 8 in the stainless, but replaced them with the Rada black handle knives. Love them. I have used Rada knives exclusively for at least 25 years. My Mom had them long before me and I was fortunate to have inherited hers. I love the black handle ones they have introduced and highly suggest you consider them. |
Question: | I am interested in these knives as a gift but not as a wedding gift. is the packaging wedding oriented |
Answer: | No. It has the same motif as all the other Rada gift sets. |
Question: | what size are these knives end to end. thank you |
Answer: | The carving knife is 11 1/2", the stubby butcher (my favorite) is 9 3/4", the long parring is 8 1/2" and the parring is 6 3/4". Hope that helps you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How wide is the blade at its widest point |
Answer: | It is a little over 2" at its widest point. Also, I find that more and more, this is the knife I reach for first. |
Question: | Can I use this to applique on bath towels? I would hoop it was a backing stabilizer. I am using a delicate stitch that will not withstand tearaway |
Answer: | it will definitely be a stabilizer for appliqueing the towels, but will dissolve when you wash them. By that time the applique will be stitched on tight and all should be well but without stabilizer. |
Question: | are there any problems with handles staining on washing |
Answer: | I have not experienced any staining and I have had some of my Rada knives for over a decade. I wash and dry and knives after use. Do not let them sit and drip dry. If you experience any discoloration on the handle, I would suggest a gentle scrub with 0000 steel wool and a gentle dish detergent. Hope this helps |
Question: | are these American made |
Answer: | I should clarify: the black handles haven't been made since 1948, they started making them about 6 or 7 years ago. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what size are the star screws holding the belt clip on |
Answer: | If you can afford a carving jack why would you even consider buying this ??? don't get me wrong it's a good little knife for the money but it's bulky and not ergonomic at all your hand will hurt after a wile and the blades don't lock like the carving jack . You'll have to sharpen it to your liking ,but I rather loose a $ 25 knife in the woods than a $140 any day of the week. over all it's not a bad little knife once is sharpened |
Question: | What is the handle made of |
Answer: | We do not carry a left handed model. |
Question: | I bought this knife and opened it fine. Now I can't close it! Can someone please help |
Answer: | This is sad. I am 63 years old and remember when "Schrade" and "Uncle Henry" were brand names of knives you were PROUD to own and showed off to all your friends. Fortunately I do still have one old 'Uncle Henry" old enough to be of good quality. I recall sharpening a knife (Uncle Henry) for our Sgt and when he cut himself with it the doctor (took 12 stitches inside & out to sew him up) said it looked like he had been cut with a scalpel. I bet you couldn't get one of these new knives that sharp. |
Question: | Can you clean a deer with it |
Answer: | To all those complaining about the blades not locking, a blade lock was developed to keep a knife from closing when it is used to stab, like a folding skinner going through thick hide at the start of a cut (which is the wrong way to start that cut, too, by the way). If you are using this tool in any way that causes the blades to close on your fingers, you don't know how to use the tool, and you're looking for a hardware fix for a training deficiency. Stop blaming the tool and fix your ignorance. Nobody is born knowing how to use a carving knife, or any other type of knife, any more than they're born knowing how to use a hammer, saw, drill, gun, stove, oven, or jackhammer, and you shouldn't expect to expertly use a tool until you've spent some time learning how to. |

The Kershaw Knockout surpasses its immediate competition on a number of counts. With this new color combination, the tactical use and military grade functionality only becomes more apparent. As an extreme tactical multi-use blade, the ‘knocked out’ portion of its handle section provides better grip in wet, muddy, or bloody conditions, while also giving it a slimmer fighting weight. Not too big and not too small, its lengthy blade is counter-balanced by its lightweight yet durable design. The deep carry pocketclip enhances its military grade use for discreet and concealed carry when necessary. With a handle drilled for four positions, the patented SpeedSafe assisted opening lets users choose the side on which the knife carries for adjustable preference when other EDC and tactical gear takes up pocket space. For its killer camouflage look and function, this affordable general-purpose stout knife is an instant classic for newcomers and collectors alike
- Flipper allows the user to open the Knockout easily with either hand for tactical use in strategic combat
- SpeedSafe Assisted Opening provides a safe, quick and easy open
- The Sub-Frame Lock gives extra frame support for hard to cut materials like branches, plastic piping, cartilage and bone
- The pocketclip can be easily moved in 4 unique positions using pre-drilled holes for ambidextrous use, allowing users to choose left or right-handed, tip up or tip down carry
- Deep carry pocketclip allows comfortable carry and easy concealment, while keeping the knife readily accessible
User questions & answers
Question: | Blade steel material |
Answer: | Steel: Sandvik 14C28N, stonewashed finish |
Question: | Kershaw Knockout, Kershaw Blur with SV30 steel or Buck Vantage TM |
Answer: | I've heard too many reliability issues with the locks on the blurs, currently, so I'd wait a little while for Kershaw to work out whatever their problem is with it. I'm a sucker for beefy blades so I'd side with the knockout but the vantage is still a great knife. It's all really based preference of what you like. The knockout is slimmer and easier to carry (in my opinion) but the vantage is easy to beat around and not worry about it getting scratched up. Ultimately I say go knockout |
Question: | good for edc |
Answer: | This is my preferred EDC blade amongst many other great knives I have to choose from. It is surprisingly thin and is never a nuisance to carry clipped in my right front pocket. Also, the clip is mounted all the way at the end of the knife, so it carries very deep in the pocket. It deploys easily and very quickly thanks to the spring-assisted opening feature, and it's just plain fun to feel and hear the substantial blade come out. It locks up with absolutely no wiggle and the lock seems plenty strong for everyday tasks. I believe it's frame lock is much safer than a liner lock because your index finger sort of keeps it from disengaging when in use. That's the long answer. In short: THIS KNIFE IS THE PERFECT MEDIUM SIZE EDC FOLDER. |
Question: | Has anyone been able to fit 550 paracord through the lanyard hole? I haven't, just wondering |
Answer: | Valid question LineMan77. If you "gut and taper" the paracord, you can do it. Cut it a little long, pull the center strands out, light one end until it bubbles or starts to burn, then drag it across a piece of scrap paper while twisting and it will form a point, with a little bit of leader usually that works quite well to poke thru the hole, grab with some needle nose and viola'! I really love this knife and IMNSHO, you'd have to buy a ZT with SpeedSafe to upgrade at 3x the $$. |

Kershaw Knockout Knives
Offering knockout good looks with an awesome exterior, the Kershaw Knockout family of knives uniquely features Kershaw’s Sub-Frame Lock. A piece of machined aluminum frame is 'knocked out' and a stainless steel plate is attached in its place. The knives, while large, are lightweight, making them ideal to carry every day or to use as a working knife. The modified drop point blade offers excellent corrosion resistance and hardenability. Equipped with SpeedSafe Assisted Opening for one-handed blade deployment, a deep carry pocketclip and fierce handle scales, the Knockout is a crowd pleaser.
High-Performance Steel
Sandvik 14C28N steel is a high-performance steel with increased nitrogen in the formula for excellent corrosion resistance and hardness. The overall highest performing knife steel in the world that still maintains the productivity benefit of being fine-blankable, 14C28N steel is ideal for knife applications which place high demands on edge sharpness, edge stability and corrosion resistance.
Attractive Blade Finish
Depending on the knife’s design, Kershaw’s non-reflective stonewashed finish may be either pronounced or subtle, but in both cases, it transforms the blade by creating a fade-resistant, scuffed look that hides smudges and fingerprints. A stonewashed finish, achieved by tumbling a blade with ceramic stones, enhances a blade’s rugged appearance as well as its indestructibility during field use.
Fast Deployment
Using a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure.
Convenient Pocketclip
Kershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. The 3-position pocketclip offers tip-up or tip-down carry on the right side or tip-up carry on the left. Proper use of the pocketclip increases safety, efficiency and pleasure of owning and using a knife
One-Handed Flipper
Knives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection.
Durable Handle
Aluminum, anodized for color, hardness and additional protection, is very durable, stain and scratch resistant for strong knife handles. Anodizing changes the aluminum’s surface so a porous coating can be applied that will accept a colored dye. Anodized aluminum gives the knife bright, eye-catching, unique colors and provides a nice, hefty, solid feel to the knife without making the knife heavy.
Secure Locking System
A variation of the traditional frame lock, a Sub-Frame Lock creates a light-weight frame, is machined out, and a piece of steel is riveted into its place. Angled inward and biased toward the locked position, when open, it moves into position behind the blade tang securing it open. OIne of Kershaw’s technologies, the Sub-Frame Lock offers a slim profile with strong, fast action deployment.

User questions & answers
Question: | Dose this knife have a belt clip |
Answer: | Yes, it does. In my experience, it is very sturdy and well adjusted. Other knives I've owned have been difficult to clip or unclip because the clip pressure is too high. I have had this one for some time now and I think it has just the right amount of pressure to stay clipped, but not be difficult to attach or remove. I've never had to adjust it. |
Question: | what does it mean by batteries not included |
Answer: | I'm not sure why that's part of the technical description but no, this item does not require batteries. |
Question: | Any idea where the blade's metal comes from |
Answer: | The box says made in Taiwan and the blade has 4034 steel marked on it. 420 or 4034 stainless steels are the softest and least expensive. The presence of these steels usually means the knife is mass produced and imported from China. These steels are not brittle, but they do not stay sharp for long either. if you want a good edge try VG-10, it is stainless steel with a high percentage of vanadium content, which can hold an extremely sharp edge for a long time. 1095 carbon steel has a high degree of carbon in it for increased hardness; the legendary Ka-Bar fighting knives are made from this steel. H1 steel which is made with nitrogen instead of carbon, making it virtually rust proof. These knives are intended for extremely hard use by people doing stuff like salt-water sea diving. As with most things the better the material the higher the cost. |
Question: | Can parts |
Answer: | The only time it can parts, is when the parts cant. Or when the can can't parts, but the parts can. There are also times where you go to do the can parts, but then you cant parts. In all, the parts can can parts, but the can cant part cans. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How to close it |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Is this a folding knife |
Answer: | It depends on what you use it for and how much you use it each day. But if I had to put it between 1 and 10. 1 being least durable, 10 being the most durable. I would give it an eight. The quality of the materials in both handle and blade is very good. |
Question: | Is it durable |
Answer: | Yes, I believe so - there is small Allen bolt that can be accessed from the opposite side of the blade - but the clip will remain on that side also. |
Question: | Can thumb stud be easily moved to opposite side of the blade |
Answer: | Leather sheath |

Answer: | Clearly say's on the box made in Taiwan , Just got mine today |
