6 best ceramic hunting knives
Ceramic hunting knives are a type of cutting tool designed for outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, and survivalists. These knives are made from advanced ceramics, typically zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), which is known for its exceptional hardness and sharpness. Here are some key features and information about ceramic hunting knives:
Blade Material: Ceramic knives are made from a very hard and brittle material, which allows for an incredibly sharp edge. This sharpness can be maintained for a long time, as ceramic blades do not dull as quickly as steel blades.
Sharpness: Ceramic knives are renowned for their razor-sharp edges. They can effortlessly slice through various materials, including meat, fruits, vegetables, and even bone, making them highly suitable for hunting and field dressing.
Lightweight: Ceramic knives are generally lightweight, which can be advantageous for hunters who need to carry their equipment for extended periods. The reduced weight can minimize fatigue during extended use.
Corrosion Resistance: Ceramic blades are highly resistant to rust and corrosion, making them an excellent choice for use in wet and humid environments.
No Metallic Taste: Unlike steel knives, ceramic blades do not impart a metallic taste to food, which can be particularly important when field dressing game.
Fragility: While ceramic blades are extremely sharp, they are also brittle. They can chip or shatter if subjected to excessive force, such as chopping through bones or hard materials. Careful handling is essential to prevent damage.
Maintenance: Ceramic knives require special care. They should not be used for prying, twisting, or cutting through hard or frozen foods. Additionally, sharpening ceramic knives requires diamond or ceramic sharpening stones, as traditional steel sharpeners are ineffective.
Cost: Ceramic hunting knives are typically more expensive than their steel counterparts due to the specialized materials used in their construction.
Handle Material: The handles of ceramic hunting knives can vary, but they are often made of lightweight and durable materials like plastic or resin. Some models may feature ergonomic designs for a comfortable grip.
Variety: Ceramic knives come in various shapes and sizes, including fixed-blade and folding designs. Choose the one that best suits your hunting needs and preferences.
Legal Considerations: Check local regulations and hunting laws before using ceramic knives for hunting, as some areas may have restrictions on the type of knife you can carry.
In summary, ceramic hunting knives are known for their exceptional sharpness and resistance to corrosion. However, they are also fragile and require special care and maintenance. These knives can be a valuable addition to a hunter's toolkit when used appropriately.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this knife come with a sheath |
Answer: | The knife comes with a blade guard which covers the entire edged surface and blade (though there are 'vent slots'). This blade guard does not go past the blade (does not go to the handle, does not go past the pommel) and does not have a belt clip or loops. It does have a lanyard hole at the butt. At this price point believe me it is worth it to buy the knife and buy/craft your own sheath. The knife is so light that with the blade cover, you could literally use 36" of folded duct tape to make a belt-loop sheath that could last for years, or 24" of duct tape for an IWB sheath. |
Question: | What is the overall length |
Answer: | The knife has an overall length of 9 and 1/4 inches. |
Question: | How long is the blade |
Answer: | 1 5/8 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is anyone else getting bearing zip? On deployment & closing bearings ( lubricated well ) make a " zzzzzzzzzt " sound |
Answer: | I do get a slight sound when opening. When closing there is a some vibration which I imagine is the bearings not being completely seated. I still would buy this knife again. |
Question: | Is the stonewashed one bead blasted as well? Bead blasted D2 always rusts in my environment. Thanks for any info |
Answer: | Nope. It's definitely a thick stonewashed finish. Since D2 isn't stainless, I got that version to help stave off the rust spots I always seem to get. Good news is that it's working so far. |
Question: | What is the country of origin |
Answer: | I bought the knife as a gift for my grandson by marriage and have never actually seen it. |
Question: | Is anyone else getting bearing zip? On deployment & closing bearings ( lubricated well ) make a " zzzzzzzzzt " sound |
Answer: | If it is a hissy sort of sound it is probably due to the use of ceramic bearings. There may also be manufacturing debris trapped around the pivot and bearings. This would likely require a disassembly and cleaning. Which is not difficult. Lastly, if you have not lubricated the detent ball you may want to try that. One drop of light oil on the detent ball can work wonders. |

EASY TO CARRY, EASIER TO ADMIRE
Knifemaker Brad Zinker is best known for his slim and striking knives, most notably the Urban Trapper. Zinker’s designs put emphasis on ease of carry, slender form factor, and utility. So, given the opportunity to make a production version of one of his custom knives, we knew it should embody these characteristics—and his double-bevel teardrop wharncliffe was the perfect fit. Introducing the Dogtooth: a dashing S35VN frame lock with equal emphasis on function and form. The first thing you’ll notice about the knife is its skeletonized 6AL4V titanium handle, which keeps weight down without sacrificing much strength. The next thing that’ll catch your eye is the 3.3-inch wharncliffe blade made from S35VN stainless steel. Furthermore, the knife is outfitted with a deep-carry steel clip and ceramic bearings for smooth deployment with a press on the jimped flipper tab.
MAXIMUM CONTROL, MINIMUM BULK
The Dogtooth’s wharncliffe blade is made for control. The nearly straight cutting edge is easy to guide through material with accuracy, and the fine tip excels in detailed cuts. While this knife is not meant for heavy duty tasks, it makes quick work of everyday ones, like cutting boxes, opening letters, preparing food, removing threads, and much more. Cut with a double-bevel compound grind, the blade offers added strength at the base and precision at the tip. The skeletonized frame not only reduces weight (it’s just 2.2 ounces overall), but showcases the blade when closed. In addition, there’s a choil for ease of sharpening, plus jimping on the spine for grip retention. Shaped like a teardrop, the handle is visually pleasing and comfy to hold.
ABOUT BRAD ZINKER
If you like slim knives, you need to know Brad Zinker. Based in Florida, Brad is a voting member of the Knifemakers’ Guild with a passion for slender designs. His philosophy is simple, that knives should never be a strain or hindrance to their owner, whether fixed blades or folders. Thus, the majority of his knives—including this one—are extremely pocket friendly and lightweight. However, while much of Zinker’s work highlights blades with impossibly thin construction, he’s also been known to craft hunting knives and heavy-duty folders, using ATS-34 and damascus as his materials of choice.
