User questions & answers

Question: Is it made in Japan
Answer: The manufacturer's label clearly states that it is made in China. Most of my Makita tools purchased over the last five years were made in China. While I have seen a number of issues with complex products made in China (primarily reliability issues), I have not seen any such problems with Makita tools. I suspect that Makita rides herd sternly on their Chinese manufacturers.
Question: What's the difference between this bss610z and the homedepot xss02z
Answer: Home Depot has nothing to do with it, they just sell it. The XSS023Z is a newer version and is equipped with Star Protection Computer Controls to protect against overloading, over-discharging and over-heating and the BSSA610Z isn't, the XSS02Z is also a little lighter.
Question: Does anyone know what's the black metal bar that looks like the T in the box is for? It doesn't say anything in the manual
Answer: By inserting it into the slots in your saw you can cut straight pieces under 10" in width without marking your board. This accessory should be pictured in your owners manual.
Question: Does it come with a battery and charger, what about the blade? and what kind of warranty
Answer: I bought mine "bare tool" as I already had the basic starter kit: drill/driver and impact driver which comes with two batteries and the charger. It comes with a 6 1/2" blade (which are readily available at Depot or Lowes) and I think it's got a two year warranty. Used mine all day today cutting pressure treated 2x6's; never missed a beat.

User questions & answers

Question: Why is this saw listed as having hyploid gears? It does not have them
Answer: The major difference between hypoid saws and worm-drive gears is their power transmission. The worm-drive works like the steering gears on a car while the hypoid resembles the rear gears of a car i.e. bevel gears. They can be used together especially where long precision cuts are required.

Makita 5377MG 7-1/4" Magnesium Hypoid Saw

The Makita 7-1/4” Magnesium Hypoid Saw features highly durable magnesium components and a powerful 15 AMP Makita-built industrial motor with a hypoid gearing system for maximum power output. The 5377MG seamlessly balances weight, power, durability, and ease of use for optimum cutting performance.

Saw features a Makita-built 15 AMP industrial motor that delivers 4,500 RPM, combined with well-balanced magnesium components for a lighter weight saw that delivers true power the professional user demands. Users will benefit from the precision-machined hypoid gears, which deliver more constant power than worm drive gears. Hypoid gears have greater surface contact so more power is transferred over a wider surface, providing increased power and durability. In addition, hypoid gears are in an oil bath for consistent oil coverage. The saw has a large cutting capacity (2-3/8” at 90°) with a maximum bevel capacity of 51.5° and positive stops at 22.5°, 45° and 51.5° for quick back-and-forth changes.

Ergonomic and Ease-of-Use Features

Magnesium components allowed Makita to engineer a saw with less weight (13.2 lbs.) that is well-balanced and jobsite tough. Additional design details include greater clearance between the rear handle and the blade case to provide a better grip for larger hands or for users with gloves, as well as a wider space between the blade and housing for a clearer view of the blade and measurement scale.

Engineered for a Range of Applications

The 5377MG is built for framing walls, floors and roofs using a range of dimensional lumber and dense engineered lumber, including LVL, PSL and I-Joists, headers, and microlams; as well as ripping panels such as plywood, OSB, particle board, and dense structural panels. Other applications include plunge and bevel cutting.

Magnesium Innovation

Framers and carpenters need cutting solutions with power and performance -- not extra weight. Makita circular saws with Magnesium components are engineered for less weight with superior balance and durability. Magnesium circular saws deliver consistent performance with less weight for cutting sheet and dimensional lumber.

User questions & answers

Question: I have the large dewalt d2400 tile saw but need something small for smaller cuts on tile. this saw look dry. will it work on time
Answer: i will assume you mean, "will this saw work with tile?" yes. i bring this saw to all my tile jobs. it cuts without water, and is a must have when doing large tile, 12 x24 and greater. i use the saw for small cuts. outlets, corners, etc. it works well, and should be with every tile job. i would not suggest using it for every cut, you could but that is what the traditional wet saw is for. buy it. it's good to have.... don't be stupid... wear your safely glasses and hearing protection. when your old, feeding the birds is awesome! especially if you can see and hear them!!!
Question: Can a diablo 5 inch fiber cement blade fit? originally the blades are for circular saws. but will a 5 inch circular saw fit this tool
Answer: That blade is rated at a max of 12000 rpm's. This saw would put it right up to or above that. Probably better off using that blade on a wood cutting circular saw.
Question: Can I use with water
Answer: Yes, but with limits. I keep the tile wet with a spray bottle. Keeping itwet, but not submerged like a wet saw. Hope this helps. I've cut 1 1/4 inch thick granite using this method ....... It works really.
Question: What is difference between this Makita 4100NHX1 and the Makita 4100NH
Answer: From Makita's website it look like the 4100NHX1 is only 9.6 amps vs 12 amps for the 4100NH. Kinda makes sense as the 4100NH is a little more expensive.
