You would assume it's a crosscut saw but mine has a rip cut pattern. I refiled it for rip cuts with just a bit of set and sharper teeth and it's good enough for both rip and cross cuts with a fairly smooth and small kerf. It's not a boutique saw for fine furniture making but for less than 20 bucks it's a good enough general purpose back saw for cutting stock down to size. |

They have videos on their website that show how to install the parts on DW716, DWS779, and DWS782 saws. You will need some additional tools (torx screw drivers or torx bits, wire strippers/cutter/crimper) and somewhat mechanically inclined. Just google "DWS779 xps light kit" and they should be the top result. This might be an easier option versus going to a DeWalt service center in the post pandemic world. |

| Answer: | Yes, you can cut an 18" log with a 26" saw. Cut down about 6", and then turn the log 90 degrees, and then cut down 6". Do that on all four sides, and then cut the center 6". It will take a while. |

| Answer: | Interestingly enough, neither the informative cardboard that covers the tool, nor the tool itself, has any markings as to where this saw is manufactured. |

| Answer: | No.! This is basically a framing saw. If you want a hand saw that will produce a “smooth” cut edge, buy a “pull cut” Japanese saw. They are light and flexible. |

| Answer: | Cutting a 16" stump with a 19" saw means you will only be getting 3" strokes by the time you make it to the center. I suggest renting a chain saw at your local hardware store. If you want to own a hand saw capable of doing that, go for the Lynx 3' (for one person) or 6' (for 2 person use). You may be able to find a 1 or 2 man crosscut for less at a flea market. It'll just take a wire brush and some grease like WD40 or mineral oil to clean up the rust and then a quick sharpening with a bastard file. |

| Answer: | The anvil is marked from 5-12. The hammer is fine enough for a twelve-point set without interfering with adjacent teeth. |

| Answer: | I checked mine out and could not find any marking on either the box or the tool to indicate where it was manufactured. I examined the set closely and from the quality and finish I would speculate that it was made outside the USA. From a functional point the tool seems to be adequately designed and made to do the job it was meant to do, with the necessary precision. The set simply provides the "set" to each tooth by bending it ever so slightly off to the side with every other tooth going either left or right. the key is to make that offset angle uniform in both directions. It appears to do that as desired and is adjustable for the amount of "set". It is difficult to say how durable the tool is, which is the most important aspect of a quality tool. Fit and finish, I would give it a 7-8, I don't feel I have given it a sufficient workout to "guesstimate" durability. I did use it to refresh a well used saw's set and it functioned very well. For the amount of work I expect to accomplish in setting saw teeth and the price, I'm satisfied with the tool. |
