Answer:	Slower is better than higher. Try not to use a wheel that is lower than 80 grit. 100 seems best. If you go up to high, you end up heating the tool too much.

Answer:	For scrapers and gouges, I use a belt sander. For skews and bedans I use a wet stone grinder. I use a polishing wheel with emery compound to hone all my blades between sharpenings.

Answer:	Carbide is used to machine alloy steel, so it should go right throught aluminum or brass. These inserts are designed for wood though, so they may not be ground to the best angle for soft metal. You may not get the finish you desire

Made of High Speed Steel, they kept their sharp edge very well. I am an avid woodturnter, and have bought four sets so far. There are certainly better tools with the next higher level of steel. When one tool snapped, they sent a whole new set. 4.5 out of 5 stars. I recommend.

Answer:	If they are actually made of m2 then there not heat treated or still in a the soft state. I've worked with m2 it's some pretty tough material these are not by any means but I still get decent usage out of them before resharpening. I would say there closer to like a drill rod material maybe softer. Wish I could check the Rockwell for you but alas that's not an option currently. Good luck

But in my opinion the tools need to be sharpened before use if you plan on doing any decent work. Are the bevels correct?? For someone new to turning, the bevel angles on each individual tool in this set should work fine. As one gains in experience they will see that the bevel angle for any one tool is often changed to better handle a particular situation. FWIW: Judging from the fact that I can't cut these tools with a file tells me their "heat treated" to at least 62-63 Rc. That's a good thing! The harder the M2 the better it holds an edge. Funny they don't promote this? My 2 cents.

Answer:	Dan,I am pleased with my purchase. I do not see a country of origin mark on the tools are their box. I scratched the ferrule with my pocket knife and it shows brass through the scratch. The steel seems to be more than ample. All seem thick. I started turning with High Speed Steel from Sears about 35 years ago. This steel is thicker than my Sears of 35 years ago.The corners of the steel are all sharp. I would stone them before starting. It is difficult to get them to slide on the tool rest. The gouges are all ground very steep. Almost to that of a scraper. With the thick steel I ground them all back to add additional relief.The parting tool is thick and parallel. I ground mine to more of a diamond section and ground back the top angle.I would buy them againAllan Steinkuhl

Question:	Can you do aluminum
Answer:	It was not be cost effective because you would need too many attachments. You’d have to modify the tool rest. It would turn it but you couldn’t hold the tool to turn it without modifications. There are lathes out there built for using with aluminum. Hope this helps
