12 best paint for fiberglass door
Painting a fiberglass door is a common home improvement project, and selecting the right paint and tools is crucial for a successful outcome. Here's what you need to know about paint for fiberglass doors:
Surface Preparation: Before painting, it's essential to prepare the surface properly. Clean the fiberglass door to remove dirt, dust, and any loose paint. Sand the surface lightly with fine-grit sandpaper to create a smooth and slightly roughened texture for better paint adhesion.
Primer: Using a high-quality primer designed for use on fiberglass is crucial. The primer helps the paint adhere to the surface and ensures a more durable finish. Apply the primer evenly, following the manufacturer's instructions.
Paint Type: Acrylic or latex-based paints are often recommended for fiberglass doors. They are known for their durability and resistance to cracking or peeling. These paints are available in various finishes, including satin, semi-gloss, and gloss, allowing you to choose the level of sheen you prefer.
Color Selection: Choose a color that complements your home's exterior. Many paint manufacturers offer a wide range of colors, and you can often request custom color mixes to match your preferences.
Paint Application: Use a high-quality paintbrush, paint roller, or a paint sprayer for applying the paint. Brushes are great for detail work, while rollers are efficient for larger areas. Be sure to apply the paint evenly in thin coats to prevent drips and achieve a smooth finish.
Drying Time: Follow the recommended drying times between coats as specified on the paint and primer labels.Typically, you'll need to wait for each coat to dry completely before applying the next one.
Multiple Coats: Applying multiple thin coats of paint is better than applying one thick coat. Multiple coats provide better coverage and durability. Be patient and allow each coat to dry before proceeding.
Topcoat or Sealant: Some homeowners choose to apply a clear topcoat or sealant over the paint to add an extra layer of protection and enhance the finish's longevity. Check the manufacturer's recommendations for compatibility.
Maintenance: After painting, maintain your fiberglass door by periodically cleaning it and inspecting for any signs of wear or damage. Touch up any areas with paint as needed to keep it looking fresh.
Safety: When painting, be sure to work in a well-ventilated area, wear appropriate safety gear, and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions on the paint and primer labels.
In summary, painting a fiberglass door involves proper surface preparation, choosing the right primer and paint, and applying multiple thin coats for a durable and attractive finish. Pay attention to the manufacturer's recommendations and follow best practices for a successful painting project.

For over a century, the gas works was a fixture of American cities and towns. Long before natural gas and electricity were common, these facilities generated coal gas to power street lamps, home appliances and industrial machinery. The gas was actually a byproduct, made by baking coal to produce coke. Running night and day, a variety of fascinating machinery and structures were needed, along with plenty of rail service and now modeling these facilities is easy, with a brand-new collection of HO Scale Cornerstone Series kits from Walthers. Typical of buildings found at gas works everywhere, each has been engineered for easy assembly and to fit almost any layout. Decal signs and complete instructions are included too. Coal was the life-blood of any gas works and a ready supply was always on hand. Many plants were located alongside waterways, which allowed massive amounts to be delivered by ship. To reach into their holds, special bridge cranes with longer booms extending beyond the dock were used. These made quick work of unloading using a large clamshell bucket to stockpile coal nearby. This impressive kit has a modular design and additional parts so you can build a longer or shorter version to fit your available space. With its superbly detailed steel truss work, operators cab, clamshell bucket, trolley and more, it will be a focal point of any scene. On the waterfront, it makes a great stand-alone coal dock, and its a natural at a steel works handling iron ore, coal, and stone.

TotalBoat Wet Edge Topside Paint gives you the beauty, high gloss, and durability of a 2-part polyurethane—without all the hard work.
TotalBoat Wet Edge 1-part, marine-grade polyurethane topside paint makes it easy to get a hard, high-gloss finish with superior resistance to UV damage, abrasion, and stains. It's also flexible enough to withstand all the movement (flexing, expansion, contraction) hulls & other topside surfaces typically undergo in ever-changing weather conditions, making it very resilient & durable. There's a color here to please just about everyone: (Top to bottom) Sand Beige, Kingston Gray, Flag Blue, Bristol Beige, Fighting Lady Yellow, Blu-Glo White, Sea Foam, Black, Sea Green, White, Fire Red, Largo Blue, Yellow, Hatteras Off-White, and Classic Whaler Blue. It also comes in Off-White, Oyster White, and Aqua Mist. If you want a custom color, you can blend different Wet Edge colors to create your own. Wet Edge is preferred for its high-gloss finish, but a few colors are also available in a flat finish. Available in Pints, Quarts, and Gallons. Pints are perfect for painting boot stripes.
TotalBoat Wet Edge can make your home ship shape, too!
TotalBoat marine-grade paints & varnishes can also provide durable, elegant finishes for your home. Our high-gloss topside paint is tougher than the stuff made to paint houses because it has to withstand relentless abuse from the wind, sun, rain, pollution & salt boats are exposed to in harsh marine environments. This head-turning finish looks great on front doors, trim, outdoor furniture & more.
Wet Edge gives you the edge in a range of temperatures.
Maintaining a "wet edge" is just paint talk for applying paint starting in the unpainted area and moving back into the just-painted area in order to avoid lap marks. TotalBoat Wet Edge lets you keep a wet edge in temperatures ranging from 50 to 90°F.
Brushing
For better flow out when brushing, thin Wet Edge with either TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100 or mineral spirits (5-10% by volume). To ensure a proper cure, apply 2-3 thin coats rather than thick coats.
Color shown: TotalBoat Wet Edge Classic Whaler Blue.
Rolling & Tipping
For best results, the person holding the roller "rolls" vertically, applying an even coat of paint. The person with the brush "tips" horizontally. We recommend a natural bristle brush or a badger hair brush for tipping, instead of a foam brush, which will drag the paint away, rather than level it.
Color shown: TotalBoat Wet Edge Fighting Lady Yellow.
Spraying
When spraying, thin Wet Edge with xylene (thinning percentage varies by the sprayer and conditions, typically 15-20%). Tip: Don't apply paint too thickly, or the finish will not dry properly.

Robert Hadden's sailboat
- Wet Edge Fire Red
- Wet Edge White
"I have been restoring a sailboat for the past two years, and this spring/summer I finally finished it. This picture is the boat hull finished with TotalBoat Wet Edge paint (both white and red), and TotalBoat Gleam varnish on the deck."
Kent Lewis' 1980 AMF Sunfish, "Viper"
- Wet Edge Kingston Gray
"We used TotalBoat Epoxy for fiberglass repairs, then TotalBoat Primer. Faired a few spots with TotalFair, sanded with 100 grit. Used Wet Edge Kingston Gray to paint the Sunfish VIPER. Rolled and tipped the second coat of Wet Edge, thinned 5 percent because temp was 80F plus."
Richard Honan's 8' Nutshell Pram, "Summer Wind"
- Wet Edge Off-White
- Wet Edge Bristol Beige
- Wet Edge Flag Blue
"TotalBoat Wet Edge Bristol Beige (interior), Off White (bottom and lower strakes), Flag Blue (gunnel). Summer Wind would have been painted with 100% TotalBoat Wet Edge, but there was no burgundy, which I used for the seats and rub rail. TotalBoat Marine Wood Finish was used on the mast, boom, and gaff. The tiller was finished with TotalBoat Lust Varnish."
Mary Feeny's front door
- Wet Edge Yellow
"When my yellow front door on a rental property I own needed a fresh coat of paint, I turned to Wet Edge for a few reasons. I wanted a super bright yellow and your color was a perfect match. Also, because it's a rental property, I needed a very durable finish that would really last, so I didn't have to repaint soon and bother the tenants again. Using a marine finish on my exterior front door was the perfect solution and years later it's still bright yellow and looks as great as it did the day I painted the door!"
It all started simply enough. As boaters, we wanted better stuff for our own boats.
Even our favorite products, the ones we'd come to rely on, had room for improvement. It'd be nice if they could hold up longer, cure faster, coat better, apply easier, and—since we all know boat ownership creates a mini maelstrom in your pocket—cost less. So we took everything we knew from 35 years of customer feedback, combined that with our own boating knowledge, and after a few years of rigorous R&D, TotalBoat was born. Launched, rather. By boaters, for boaters.
Need help? The members of our TotalBoat Tech Team are boat owners who really know their stuff. So whether you're trying to figure out what to buy or the best solution for your particular project, they have years of hands-on training, experience, and a passion to help you succeed.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do I need to use a primer before using this on a front door |
Answer: | Up to 48hrs once activated |
Question: | What is the prep work |
Answer: | Difficult to say, but if it was me, I'd get 2 cans to be safe. I don't think you'd need 3. Make sure you get the appropriate respirator. The vapor is toxic |
Question: | I need help picking the right red shade. I have barn red trim and am looking for a red shade for the front door. Is Sophisticated close to barn red |
Answer: | Substrate isn't extremely important, but prep, as with painting anything, is key. Assuming you've got the basic prep down for painting your guitar, I would apply this excellent two-part clear, when either the paint you are applying is still tacky, or wait for your paint to cure if you have any imperfections and wet sand them out, then reapply one more color coat of paint and spray 2 or 3 coats of your clear. If you notice any imperfections in the paint/clear, just wait a few days until fully cured, then begin wet sanding with 1500/2000 grit up to 3000 grit and use some aggressive quality correcting rubbing compound and follow up with less aggressive polishing compound like the Meguiars M101 and M102 combo. I'm no professional painter, but I've impressed even myself and others following these steps. Just make sure you plan ahead and use as much as you can before the clear hardens in the can because after you mix the catalyst in with the clear it will harden...figure about 1 to 2 days time depending on humidity and temperature. |
Question: | Which color is black |
Answer: | Good question. I have a vw jetta and I did not plan to use primer as my mission was to fix that bad clear coat on my car. I ended up using primer as I repainted everything from the hood to trunk. I ran short of paint as more paint was used in the new primer. So I had to seal the paint and come back to fix it later. Two cans just got the paint sealed. It went on great and gor hard in less that one day. Make sure that you scratch the car and maybe the primer if that is the kind you use. Has some peal on one spot do to that. I will schach what I have done add paint and clear again then I am sure it will be right. For the space I told you about on my jetta take 3 cans over the 2 I used. I hope that will help. |
Question: | Is this high gloss jet black virgin powder |
Answer: | Yes that should be just fine! I'd recommend doing 3-4 thin coats for optimal durability. |
Question: | Leave ground on when baking powder |
Answer: | Yes it can! |
Question: | Does parts have to stay grounded while your baking the part ? Thanks |
Answer: | I've had that happen myself! When you're closing your jars after each use, make sure you wipe down the edge with paper towel to remove any excess product that's gathered there. If it does dry closed, you can run the lid under hot water to help soften the dried product. If you wrap a rubber band around the lid that will also help you get a better grip and the lid becomes much easier to twist! |
Question: | Can you use Mica powder to powder coat with |
Answer: | Yes! You can use rubbing alcohol to remove the wax, then apply Clear Coat or Tough Coat. |
Question: | How log it last after you activated |
Answer: | It’s a weathered brown |
Question: | hey guys would one spray bottle be enough for 3 coats on a sedan rooftop with a sunroof |
Answer: | About 10 inches wide, 12 inches tall, and 2 inches thick. |
Question: | How many coats are needed for a guitar, and should I sand in between coats |
Answer: | It’s a magnetic closure |
Question: | What kind of coverage did you get out of one can of this |
Answer: | It is brown. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I also paint the bottom of my Starcraft aluminum boat with this? I need a white color. Thanks |
Answer: | 1. I don't think this is the right paint for aluminum or at a minimum, you will need a special "aluminum primer" paint (I think Rust-Oleum makes it). 2. I think for a boat that will stay in the water for much more than a typical 12 hour day each time it is used, you need professional equipment and paint to do the job, probably best left for marine shop. |
Question: | can u paint a car whith this paint |
Answer: | Yes! I've used the white and Oyster White, both successfully. The Oyster White is the closest match you can get to Old English White. The benefit of Topside is the UV protection. Be sure to cut the paint. I did 1 part paint, 3/4 part mineral spirits, and 1/4 part Penetrol (found at Home Depot, used to help the paint lay flatter). I applied the paint with a high density roller and foam brushes where the roller couldn't fit. Two coats, then wet sand with 600 wet/dry paper to remove Orange peel. Two coats, then sand with 800. Then two coats and wet sand with 1000. Two coats then wet sand with 1500. Two coats then wet sand with 2000. A lot of work, but worth the savings IMO. Good luck! There should be a picture of my car in the review section. This was my first attempt at it. I very recently used the Oyster White and others have been HIGHLY impressed. |
Question: | Can this paint be sprayed in an hvlp gun |
Answer: | Yes, according to directions on the container. Reduce with 10-15% xylene. Let dry 24 hours. Sand with #220 between coats. |
Question: | Has anyone used this as a ceiling paint for a shower? For the tub / shower surround? What were the results? Thank you |
Answer: | Yes! If you get the tub repair/ paint kit you're spending $30-$60 or more, and this does a better job at $15. Seriously can't beat it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Never got it |
Answer: | Great stuff |
Question: | Do the decorative epoxy flakes work well with this item |
Answer: | The guy complaining its loaded with grit . How did you think it was made to be slip resistant ? There are alot of foljs that must growed up near power lines . |
Question: | what color is closed to brown |
Answer: | Hi Thanks for your question. Camel is a light medium brown. Thanks |
Question: | Can this be used indoors for concrete floors |
Answer: | Yes, but unless you don't plan on sweeping or mopping the floor I wouldn't use it on its own. It feels like rough concrete when applied. As a base coat that is covered in regular paint for concrete it works great. Once covered you end up with a textured, skid resistant floor that is sweep-able and mop-able. |

Product description
Smart strip is a revolutionary paint remover that is safe for the user, any substrate and the environment. It is formulated without methylene chloride and is non-carcinogenic, non-toxic and non-caustic. This water-based stripper will effectively remove up to 15 coats of virtually any coating like oil-based, water-based, acrylics, varnishes, urethanes even old lead paints from interior or exterior surface of wood, brick, stone, concrete, plaster, metal, plastic, glass, fiberglass, etc. Smart strip has zero VOCs, is odor free, user friendly, 100-Percent biodegradable and pH neutral. This is a water-based paste that is easily applied by brush, roller or conventional airless spray. Allow the paste to dwell on the coatings for 3 to 24 hours, depending on the number of coats and the type of coatings being removed. It is formulated to remain wet and effective over extended periods of time and does not require the use of Peel Away Paper. After appropriate dwell time, remove the paste and the softened/lifted paint using a scraper. Any remaining residue can be removed with a sponge and water or a power washer. There is no need to neutralize the stripped surface. Available in 1-quart can.

User questions & answers
Question: | has anyone use this in a sprayer |
Answer: | It can be sprayed. Best to use a commercial sprayer. You will need to remove all the filters and use a .031 tip size. |
Question: | how does it do on wood |
Answer: | It does very well on wood. Unlike some other environmental strippers like Peel Away 7 it isn't highly alkaline and doesn't require being neutralized, and thus there is no danger of darkening the wood. The #1 choice for wood in my opinion, and I have tried virtually everything. (One tip--cover the stripper with wax paper, plastic, etc. while you let it work so it doesn't dry out. Let it work overnight for maximum effectiveness.) |
Question: | How many gallons would be needed for a 26 ft boat with a 10 ft beam |
Answer: | I think you would need to ask to buy it by the barrel! We stripped both sides of a standard door and used over a gallon. There were many layers of paint, but you also have to put it on thickly for it to work properly. I would contact the manufacturer for suggestions on stripping a boat. |
Question: | does it work on brick which has latex paint on it |
Answer: | Yes it works great on stripping latex paint from brick interior or exterior. |
