This curing time frame is necessary for all the solvents in the asphalt to evaporate. The surface must be free of dirt, loose gravel, oil or other foreign matter that could be detrimental to coating adhesion. Any oil or grease spots must be treated with an Oil and Grease Emulsifier. Best results for general preparation will be obtained by power washing; however, conscientious sweeping and water hose rinsing may suffice. Sure Step® is self – priming on bare asphalt.

Answer:	For previously coated surfaces: Remove all dirt, dust, chalk, mildew or flaking paint by power washing. An alternate method is to scrape, wire brush, wash the surface with a solution of one part bleach to three parts water, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow it to dry. Sure Step may be easily applied by roller, brush or squeegee. Stir contents thoroughly to assure even dispersion of pigment. Apply product at a rate of 80 to 120 square feet per gallon. Answer:	Deck-O-Seal flows a great deal when wet before it sets up. It has to be constrained or it will flow away. You will have to pour fine sand in the crack to create a floor for the product to sit in if you prepare the joint properly you will love this product.

Answer:	It's unclear to me whether or not we're talking about a vinyl pool and a stone edging around it or is it a plaster pool as far as debris is concerned you need to look at the trees the wind direction and the time of the year generally if you're living in the east August would be the best time to do this

In The Swim Aqua Coat Water-Base Swimming Pool Paint

In The Swim Aqua Coat Water-Base Swimming Pool Paint is a water-based acrylic pool paint. Aqua Coat can be applied to damp surfaces. This water-based acrylic pool paint can be applied to previous acrylic coating or over rubber base paint. Versatile water-based acrylic pool paint yields a short down time of only 3 days in most cases. Requires a minimum of 2 coats on initial application. Coverage: Approximately 250 - 300 sq ft per gallon. Should be applied with a 9” roller equipped with a ⅜” nap. Apply second coat at least 4 hours after the first coat. Pot Life: Indefinite as long as it is properly sealed. Allow to cure for 2 days before filling.

Determine Area Size

Determining the square foot of the area you are going to paint is important. This will help you figure out how many gallons of paint are needed to complete the job. It’s important to take the surface porosity and smoothness into account. When looking at how much paint you should purchase. Start by measuring the length and width of the area. Once you have those measurements plug them into the formulas below. Divide that number by the coverage square foot of the paint you are wanting to use. That will give you the number of gallons that you should purchase. Remember to look and see if the paint requires single or multiple coats and if it needs a primer.

Drain Water

Now that you have selected the paint type and know the square footage of the interior, it’s time to drain the pool. Rent or purchase a submersible pump. As soon as the outside ambient air temperature drops below 85° F. Check the local code for where pool water can be drained and start pumping. If the outside ambient air temperature is above 85° F stop draining the pool. At these elevated temperatures, the interior surface can crack and lose its structural integrity. While the pool is draining, remember that you can start to prepare the pool for paint.

Prepare for Paint

Now that the pool has been drained, you can start to prep the interior for paint. Start by removing the perimeter return jets, pool/spa light, main drain covers, aerator fittings and any other item you don’t want painted. Using painters tape, carefully tape off all the tile line, step/bench tiles, return lines, and skimmer mouth. Once you have everything taped off it’s time to prime.

Primer Coat

Now that the pool has been drained and taped, it’s time to prime. Remember not all types of paint use a primer. So if you have paint that doesn’t use a primer, skip to the painting step. Roll the primer onto the interior surface of the pool using a 9” roller with a ½” nap, starting with the walls and ending with the floor. Once you’ve completed priming allow the prime to cure for 24 - 48 hours. Then it’s time to paint.

Painting Interior

The pool has now been drained, taped, and primed. It’s time for paint. The type of paint you choose will determine the number of coats. Start painting the walls first and finish with the floor. If the paint you are using requires a time period in between coats, make sure you take that time. It will allow the paint to cure and harden increasing its chemical resistance and life span. It is suggested for steps, shallow areas and wading pools, sprinkle sand on the coating before it dries to make the area slip-resistant.

Fill and Balance

Now that the pool is painted and the paint has cured, it’s time to fill the pool and balance the water. Depending on your area you may need to order a water truck to deliver. If you have a garden hose available, toss it in. The average pool should take anywhere from 36 - 48 hours to fill. Once the pool is full allow the fresh water to circulate for 3 - 4 hours. After the circulation period it’s time to complete the first water test of many on the new water. Make sure to test the water weekly to maintain proper water balance and overall pool health.

Answer:	Hi Jeremy, We would not recommend this product for fiberglass or a boat. Gel stains do much better on fiberglass and this product was not designed to be used as a marine coating.

Answer:	No more than the usual paint smell. Not objectionable to use. I painted a porch and deck so was outdoors. But, I would expect no problem to paint indoors. Just good practice to ventilate the area.
Question:	Can i paint my travertine stairs with this paint
Answer:	I would not. First of all, it is latex(water based) it will not hold up well on travertine. Secondly, WHY would you ever want to paint travertine? If the tile is porous, you will have to fill it with a cementitious fill and then paint it. If you DO paint it, I would prep it, fill it, prep again, and then use an EPOXY, one or two part, to completely cover and seal it. A good epoxy would be from Armorpoxy.com. Stay away from those big store brand garage floor epoxies.

Answer:	We actually used some that we had stored in our garage that was left over from the last time we stained our siding and that was in the summer of 2012, 6 yrs ago. When we removed the lid, it looked like it had become a gel but my husband used a drill with a paint mixer/stirrer tool and it became liquefied again. We applied it to the siding without incident and the color matched the new 5 gallon containers we bought this summer .

Answer:	I’m in the process of staining my fence (I am using a different brand) with a semi-transparent stain. I have 187’ of fence at 5’ high including 2 gates. Applied with a roller and brush, I’m going to need around 13 gallons. My recommendation is rent a sprayer from Home Depot. You’ll save time and money as you’ll use less product and it will go much much faster.

Answer:	I have a deck/patio furniture set, including a cast iron umbrella base. Lots of use over the last year with no evidence of scratches in the deck. The stain penetrates the wood rather than building a barrier so dragging stuff across the boards won't take it off provided the wood is properly prepared.

Question:	Will this work with super thick deck stains? the deck stain i'm using is so thick i can't get much on a roller. the stain can fill upto 1/4 inch crack
Answer:	I’m sure it will not work. It works great on oil stains, which are thinner than paint, more like water. If you are using Behr Deckover I would seriously encourage you do some research - that is notoriously hard to apply successfully (think class action lawsuits). Good luck.
