6 best high heat paint

High-heat paint is a specialized type of paint designed to withstand high temperatures without degrading or losing its color. It is commonly used on surfaces that experience extreme heat, such as the interiors of stoves, fireplaces, grills, automotive exhaust components, and industrial equipment. Here are some key features and considerations related to high-heat paint:

  1. Heat Resistance: The primary purpose of high-heat paint is to provide heat resistance. It can withstand temperatures far higher than regular paints, often ranging from 500°F (260°C) to 2000°F (1093°C) or more, depending on the specific product.

  2. Applications: High-heat paint is used on various surfaces that are exposed to heat, including metal surfaces like grills, exhaust pipes, wood-burning stoves, and fireplace interiors. It can also be applied to automotive parts like engine headers and manifolds.

  3. Formulations: High-heat paints are available in different formulations, including aerosol sprays, brush-on paints, and even powder coatings. The choice of formulation depends on the application and personal preference.

  4. Colors: High-heat paint comes in a range of colors, allowing you to choose one that matches the aesthetics of your project.Common colors include black, silver, gray, and white, but custom colors may also be available.

  5. Primer: Some high-heat paints require the use of a specific primer to ensure proper adhesion and heat resistance. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the best results.

  6. Surface Preparation: Like any paint job, proper surface preparation is crucial for the success of the high-heat paint. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from rust or existing paint that may be peeling.

  7. Curing Process: High-heat paint often requires a curing process, which involves heating the painted surface to a specific temperature for a specified time. This step is essential to achieve maximum heat resistance and durability.

  8. Drying Time: The drying time for high-heat paint varies depending on the formulation and environmental conditions. It's important to allow sufficient time for the paint to cure and dry properly before exposing it to high temperatures.

  9. Maintenance: Over time, high-heat paint may wear or discolor due to prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Regular maintenance and touch-ups may be necessary to keep the finish looking its best.

  10. Safety: When working with high-heat paint, ensure proper ventilation, and wear appropriate safety gear, including a mask and gloves. Follow all safety instructions provided by the manufacturer.

  11. Brand and Quality: It's advisable to choose high-quality high-heat paint from reputable brands to ensure the best heat resistance and longevity. Cheap or low-quality options may not provide the desired results.

In conclusion, high-heat paint is a specialized coating designed to protect surfaces from extreme temperatures while maintaining their appearance. It is commonly used in various applications where heat resistance is crucial. Proper surface preparation, the right formulation, and following manufacturer guidelines are essential for achieving the best results when using high-heat paint.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you use this on a wood burning fireplace firebox
Answer: Yes especially if it is an alloy box but if the box is made of wood you might want to seal and prime it with the high temperature primer first and make sure that there are no cracks before you go over it with the rust oleum high temp paint, for best results!
Question: Can I use this paint to spray the outside of a wood burning stove
Answer: I bought 6 cabs and did my gas grill inside and out. After it cured, I ran it for 30 minutes without food. I have a "holder" to grill fish so I am using that for all cooking so I and not cooking directly on the painted area. If after a month it holds up, I will do test cooking on it directly for the stray cats.
Question: Paint scratches off very easily 2 days later, even after curing at 200 and 400 degrees. Prepped with degreaser and 150 grit sandpaper. What could I have done wrong
Answer: You did not do anything wrong. This particular paint is not durable at all, but it withstands very very high temps. If you need high heat AND durability, then you need to look into some of the high heat Cerakote and Duracoat products, which are much more involved in applying than this is. I just answered another question on here, and in that answer I mentioned watching YouTube vids of ppl using this paint. In this vids, you'll see they are very delicate w the painted objects after cured when re-installing the object in a car engine compartment, for example. The ONLY thing this paint is good at is withstanding very high heat and being applied relatively easily and cheaply. Ps. I guess I should mention that this product is sometimes sold as an "enamel" but this particular paint is not truly what you'd call an enamel. Enamel implies high durability, and this does not have high durability.
Question: What temperatures are required to cure the paint multiple times at various temperatures in an oven? Will the final coating survive any contact with food
Answer: 24 hours AFTER painted - place in oven one hour @ 175 degrees. A second curing a few hours later is sometimes helpful.Any contact with food in either direction is bad. (part to food / food to part)Make sure wife is out of town.Cook 2 or 3 pizzas one after another to help disguise smell.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the finish? Flat, glossy
Answer: Flat finish has a pale color, glossy has a shine to color.
Question: is this good to paint my heater metal cover, its pealing
Answer: Yes , after you remove the pealing paint, spray on.
Question: Can I spray on the interior of an old charcoal grill that I'm trying to fix up
Answer: I needed to do the same with my old grill. Inside the top the old paint was flakening off. After scraping I sprayed on with the Krylon. The problem was that additional flakening continued to occur and hence more flaks falling on the food. Maybe if you took the grill top off and sanded it completely then all would be okay in using the Krylon.
Question: COLOR
Answer: It's a flat black. I used it on my fireplace insert and it dried looking like cast iron. Very nice.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this be good to seal a small leak on a flex pipe
Answer: That’s what I used it for
Question: Would this work inside of a mold as to prevent sticking? I am looking to fill it with a resin which I need to come out without adhering to the walls
Answer: I had a problem once with priming after spraying and the tank got low......I took a water hose and stuck it on the valve in bottom of the tank and the pressure from the hose helped the pump prime and after that I just never let tank get plum empty..........good luck hope this helps
Question: Can this product be used directly on the exhaust pipe without buying the wrapping
Answer: No, there's not enough flow for that purpose. You need one for swimming pool application.
Question: Can this be sprayed on a cold air intake and air to water inter cooler to prevent heat soaking and keep air temps cool
Answer: This pump would work. The biggest unknown is the connectors to your current sprayer. You may need some adapters.

Question: Can I use an exhaust manifold without having to use a high temperature primer

Question: Wii it stick to stoneWalled this work on a couple of stones behind a fireplace

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be rolled or brushed on? Will it leave brush marks on a cast iron stove? Wondering if I should go with a spray vs this paint
Answer: I brushed it onto the stainless steel stove pipe so it would match our stove. With 2 coats, I havent noticed any brush marks, but I havent gotten right up on it. From 2-3 feet away, it just looks matted black, and you dont get the runs you'll get with spray paint.
Question: Can this be used to paint cast iron gas stove burner grates?? Thanks
Answer: We used this paint on our firewall in our fire place and it worked great. Really gave the fireplace a new, clean look. The paint is a flat finish so using it for stove grates may not look attractive. Our gas stove grates have a factory high gloss finish and wipe clean very easily. I suggest you go to Rutland's website and see if the paint is available in other finishes. Good Luck.
Question: Would this adhere to tile/brick around a firplace
Answer: It will definitely adhere to the brick. I have used it inside my fireplaces on several new homes to keep the firebox black. It will eventually burn off in some places on so I just repaint it every couple of years.
Question: Can I use it to paint the inside of a wood burning brick fireplace
Answer: Good to know about not using it inside a fireplace. The description said it was "Adheres to steel, cast iron, aluminum, brick, and most other metals" and I almost bought it for the bricks inside my fireplace!
